Volume 3 - 10 February, 2015 Dear Parents & Students I take great delight in sharing with the wider Loreto Community this extract from the College Captains’ Address on the national Loreto theme of Verity, which was given to the students at last week’s Opening College Mass.

“In the year of 2015 let us pause and think about what Verity means to each of us. Who are we called to be? What is divine in all of us? Mary Ward believed Verity was to live with integrity and truth, particularly the profound truth of who we are and what gives meaning to our lives. To be seekers of truth and doers of justice. To love and speak the truth at all times. To do good and do it well. Mary Ward believed in the capacity of women to contribute significantly to society and to face challenges or adversity with a courageous heart. In the words of Mary Ward “no half women, no half measures”. Verity means committing passionately, with fervour, to all that we do and being authentic and sincere in our words and actions. We must have the courage to seek the truth. We must be able to love ourselves for all that we are – which enables us to be true to ourselves and then to others. When we open our hearts to Verity and truly embrace the truth of who we are, it is a natural progression to live sincerely, to act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with God. This year, we ask you to “ignite the fire, let truth inspire”. This is our motto for the year and we encourage you to awaken the passion in yourselves, in your class, in your cohort, in our college and allow truth to be our calling for the year. Look within yourselves and do not be afraid to rely on others to help you through difficult times. Ask yourself, ‘What would Mary Ward do?’ Challenge yourselves to make the most of every aspect of the year whilst having the courage to put yourselves out there. Believe in yourselves and pursue your dreams, having the inner strength to be your true selves. We would like each one of you to embrace the virtue of Verity and begin 2015 with the belief that we can: seek the truth always; have the courage to speak the truth without fear; and have the joy of accepting who we are and sharing this with others. Let’s unite and ignite the truth in all that we do this year. Let the ‘truth be seen in Loreto ’15.” Grea Effeney and Georgia Garrett - College Captains

PARENT EVENING The Parent Communities of both Loreto and Villanova are warmly invited to attend an important informative presentation by Paul Dillon on “Teenagers, Alcohol and Drugs” to be held at Loreto in the Mary Ward Centre on Monday 16 February from 6.00pm – 7.00pm. Paul is highly regarded for his work in this area. He is an excellent communicator whom I highly recommend. I hope you can make the time to attend. This event is proudly sponsored by your Loreto College Parents & Friends Association. We thank them sincerely for their support.
