_ACADEMIC PROJECTS. _PROYECTOS ACADÉMICOS.
SMALL SCALE PEQUEÑA ESCALA _”VIRGIN OF ITATÍ” CHURCH The project is located in the suburbs of the city of Rosario, Argentina, in the neighborhood called “Virgen de Itatí”. The building responds to the need of the community to have a congregation space for the Catholic faith and its rituals, as well as to provide infrastructure to the neighborhood for its social demands. The proposal represents a double challenge, the creation of a space of worship and the materialization of a corner. The building is proposed as three volumes of low and varied height. This proposal is based on the multiplicity of use that the program required, on an area of 150m2, and on the possibilities of creating different spaces as a result of the combination of these volumes. In this line of thought, on the ground floor, these volumes are related by large voids, creating five spaces with different characteristics connected to each other and belonging to a larger space. All its walls are blind and the space is illuminated by skylights. On the upper floor, these volumes become independent and create three isolated spaces, each with a specific function. The separation between volumes is used for circulation and makes possible an upward journey that culminates in a baptismal pool at the top of the church. This act of initiation into the Catholic faith is proposed in relation to the street, the corner, the neighborhood and the community. Finally, a Virgin contained in an open outdoor garden make up a prayer space accessible from the street at all times. The scale of the building is related to the architectural context, and the use of brick as a single material responds to the availability of the material, the constructive technical knowledge of the people who live in the neighborhood, many of them construction workers, and the sustainability of the building.
MEDIUM SCALE MEDIANA ESCALA _STUDY CENTER “ISLAND CHARIGUE” The project is implanted in the islands of the province of Entre Ríos, Argentina, on the arm of the Paraná river called “Charigue”. The land has the characteristic of being an unstable territory, product of the floods that it suffers throughout the year. The program requested a chapel, a classroom for up to 60 people, kitchen, dining room, storage room, bathrooms and 12 bedrooms. The strategy was based on a linear element (a walkway) that runs along the site, from the entrance pier to a lagoon, where the condition of instability of the territory, its flora and fauna is manifested. This intention of lineal route has its foundation in the primary action that is realized when arriving the settlements of the native tribes of the place, a linear route from the entrance of the establishment until the house of the casique of the tribe, to later be able to move freely in the community. In the project, the elevated walkway crosses the complex crossing the different buildings with their respective programs (as one crosses the tribe on the way to the house of the casique) and culminates in a viewpoint to the lagoon. In turn, the layout of these buildings generate gaps creating open spaces. In the rooms different heights are proposed in response to the different levels that the water can reach and generating different spatialities. The entire complex is elevated, with the exception of the chapel, to allow its use during floods. The materiality, mostly in wood, and the construction technique in stilts, cross-linked wooden beams, metal roofs, responds to the type of soil, the possibility of transporting materials, the accessibility to the place, and to the local knowledge and available technologies. It was also considered the maintenance and the possible replacement by parts taking into account the strong erosion that the territory imposes.
BIG SCALE GRAN ESCALA _URIBURU AVENUE HOUSING
The complex is located in the city of Rosario, Argentina, on Avenida Uriburu in a residential area where low-rise buildings, residential complexes of medium height and industrial infrastructure coexist. The program for this 11,000 m2 surface area requested the implementation of 200 homes, multipurpose spaces, shops and parking. In this project, the consolidation of the four urban fronts was prioritized, proposing a complex of height, scale and form in consonance with the architectural context. On the ground floor of the urban front in relation to the Avenue, commercial premises and a green space are projected, generating a commercial walk. The break of the buildings, generates within it a series of internal and public parks that provide air, light, green spaces and infrastructure for recreation and sports. The houses were developed with interior spaces in double height, cross ventilation and green terrace balconies. The whole set is oriented to the north-east, the best orientation with respect to the climate and they are closed to the south protecting themselves from it. The structure consists of pillars, slabs and reinforced concrete beams while the roofs are metallic for a good performance before intense prescipitations. The enclosures are materialized with brick maposteria, materials and construction techniques typical of local architecture.
_CONJUNTO DE VIVIENDAS AV. URIBURU
