L’impianto urbanistico progettato recupera alcuni degli scorci e degli spazi tipici della città compatta araba con attenzione verso la proprietà e la declinazione del privato disegnando, a partire dalle linee di costruzione del tracciato urbano delle abitazioni esistenti, le successive tipologie abitative. Vengono inserite inoltre alcune regole come la distanza minima di 3 metri dalla facciata dell’abitato esistente, o come la possibilità di modifica ed evoluzione della proprietà sempre nei limiti ricavati nello spazio dell’interstizio urbano. Il progetto vuole riprendere alcune caratteristiche urbane tipiche del contesto arabo come la strada stretta per ridurre l’impatto del sole al suolo, o il disegno murario di una rete urbana al fine di un recupero dell’acqua, essenziale elemento per la vita in tutte le zone aride. La ricerca architettonica per la tipologia insediativa fa riferimento specialmente a modi di costruire ed esempi di architettura tradizionale locale, come quello della casa a corte.

The planned urban layout recovers some of the glimpses and spaces typical of the Arabian city with attention to the property and the declination of the private drawing, starting from the lines of construction of the urban layout of the existing houses, the successive housing typologies. Some rules are also included such as the minimum distance of 3 meters from the façade of the existing inhabited area, or as the possibility of modification and evolution of the property always within the limits obtained in the space of the urban interstice.

The project aims to capture some urban features typical of the Arab context such as the narrow road to reduce the impact of the sun on the ground, or the wall design of an urban network in order to recover water, an essential element for life in all dry areas. The architectural research for the settlement typology refers especially to ways of building and examples of traditional local architecture, such as that of the court house.

Inoltre l’unità abitativa è pensata per adattarsi al possibile sviluppo delle famiglie attraverso le tre direzioni di larghezza, lunghezza e altezza, mantenendo comunque una forma di casa a corte allungata per valorizzare l’idea e la funzione dello schema evolutivo del villaggio. Nello studio della tipologia inoltre si sono recuperati alcuni elementi tipici come il tetto con volta a botte per diminuire l’impatto del calore del sole sulla casa, o l’utilizzo di mashrabya, una sorta di brise soleil locali, ripensandola utilizzando un materiale diverso rispetto al solito.

La mashrabya ha un ruolo fondamentale per la circolazione e il raffrescamento dell’aria all’interno della casa (come insegnava Hassan Fathy). Inoltre il progetto studiato per la facciata vuole mostrare come attraverso diverse combinazioni come possa cambiare l’impatto della luce e della visibilità tra interno ed esterno, garantendo a seconda dello spazio al quale vi si affaccia, i diversi gradi di privatezza. compone la mashrabya è lo stesso della struttura portante ovvero il pultruso. Si tratta di un materiale composito che si ottiene attraverso il processo della pultrusione costituito di norma da resine organiche rinforzate con fibre di vetro o di carbonio alle quali (secondo questa ipotesi progettuale), viene aggiunta polvere dei residui derivati dalla produzione e lavorazione agricola.

A differenza dei profili della struttura portante (sempre in pultruso) quelli della mashrabya sono derivati dagli scarti della struttura portante stessa, risparmiando cosi la produzione di nuovi profili, diminuendo di conseguenza i costi di costruzione. Il pultruso è una tecnologia costruttiva molto versatile che viene introdotta sia per sostenere una ricostruzione rapida, resistente, e sostenibile della Siria, sia per creare una ulteriore opportunità a sostegno del sistema economico locale.

Nella ricostruzione il progetto prevede anche il riutilizzo delle attuali macerie presenti sul posto come risorsa per costi-

La struttura portante consente di costruire un massimo di due piani, caratteristica utilizzata per garantire sempre un’illuminazione naturale all’interno della corte, e di conseguenza all’interno della casa.

Il progetto si ispira a quella società conviviale propugnata dallo storico e pedagogista Ivan Illich nel libro del 1974 “Convivialità”. Una società dove lo strumento costruttivo (urbanistico) moderno sia manipolato dalle persone singole e dalla collettività nel suo insieme, generando efficienza sociale senza diminuire l’autonomia personale.

Si parla quindi di una tecnologia adeguata ai bisogni fondamentali di un popolo che, come scrive Mauro Frate in “Tecnologie appropriate, strategie per la città sostenibile”, “socialmente migliora le condizioni di vita della gente, economicamente usa in maniera saggia le risorse del pianeta, ecologicamente rispetta gli equilibri e le leggi della natura, politicamente decentra tra la gente il governo della cosa pubblica.”

Ma la tecnologia è uno strumento per la comunità. La stessa che Adriano Olivetti nel libro “Il cammino della comunità” definiva come qualcosa di “concreta, visibile, tangibile, né troppo grande, ne troppo piccola, territorialmente definita, dotata

The project is inspired by that convivial society advocated by the historian and pedagogist Ivan Illich in the 1974 book “Conviviality”. A society where the modern (urban) building tool is manipulated by individual people and the community as a whole, generating social efficiency without diminishing personal autonomy. Nelle sue comunità egli vedeva i mattoni per costruire il grande edificio di una democrazia integrata.

Ancora Olivetti scriveva “il nostro tempo ci mette davanti alle nostre responsabilità senza più offrirci la possibilità di girare la testa”.

In questa frase si può leggere un monito per il nostro tempo e per il prossimo, ma anche l’invito alla riuscita di questo sogno di comunità.
