Introductions During my time at LWC, I have thoroughly enjoyed working on many great productions, including both plays and musicals.

Gemma Reeks Director

I am delighted to be directing Lionel Bart’s Oliver! this year and super excited for the production to be taking place at The Haymarket, Basingstoke! It is a wonderful opportunity for everyone at LWC. The pupils and staff have been working incredibly hard, whilst also enjoying the wonderful music and characters that this show has to offer. I am very proud of everyone involved. We do hope you enjoy the show.

‘Oliver!’ is one of the all-time greats amongst the musical theatre lineage. The superb music, penned by Lionel Bart, is engaging and catchy, presenting just the right level of challenge for both cast and band alike. It has been an absolute joy to work with the cast and band in preparing the music for this production of ‘Oliver!’, which reflects sheer commitment and energy of the cast and the excellent team I have been privileged to work with. I particularly want to pay tribute to the hard work put in by all those singing in the show, as well as the excellent work by both the pupils and staff in the band in preparing over 40 musical numbers. I am extremely thankful for the dedication, commitment and enthusiasm shown by all over what has been a wonderful 14 weeks of rehearsals. 4

Aaron Parker Music Director

I have been privileged to produce and choreograph the annual LWC Dance show, as well as choreographing the last LWC Musical and our Centenary Festival Dance shows. I am delighted to be choreographing Lionel Bart’s Oliver! this year at The Haymarket, Basingstoke. Seeing my career go full-circle is wonderful as I performed here as the Principal Girl in ‘Babes in the Wood’ in 1990. Tracy Williams Choreographer

The pupils have worked tirelessly to produce this amazing production. I am so proud of what they have achieved and I hope that you enjoy it.

I’m thrilled to be involved with the Oliver! production as I’m an absolute musical theatre fanatic! I recently led the Junior Drama carousel and last year co-directed the 1st-3rd Form play ‘Our Day Out.’ It has been wonderful to see so many of the pupils who were in ‘Our Day Out’ spread their wings and dive head first into Oliver!, as well as seeing so many new pupils be courageous and jumping straight into a massive performance. Oliver! really feels like a LWC community project, with pupils from every year group involved, collaborating, and supporting each other through rehearsals. I have no doubt that the final production is going to be a masterpiece.

From the Technical Director Mike Sene

Any successful production is truly a team effort and it could be argued that a show’s success depends on the commitment and skill of the teams backstage, working invisibly to help the Director bring their vision to life and to enable the actors to realise their interpretation of the play. Hours of work go into preparing the set, designing the lighting, plotting the sound, organising the props, arranging the costumes and thinking of everything necessary to bring the show to opening night. The teams need to be flexible and resourceful, anticipating problems before they arise and staying well ahead of the cast in bringing people, props, furniture,

scenery, lights, microphones and effects to the ready. This production of ‘Oliver!’ at the Haymarket is no exception and is ably supported by the talented team of lighting designers, sound engineers and stage managers at the theatre who have lent us their expertise, time and equipment and support. Ms Emma Oleram-Lilley is leading the backstage team and is supporting the theatre’s stage manager. Emma brings a wealth of professional experience to the role having been a stage manager for various operas including Tosca, Swan Lake and Princess Ida, and most notably

calling all the cues for the West End production of ‘The Lion King’. The lighting designer is being supported by Millie Barlow, a keen member of the LWC stage crew who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes for many years and can be depended on for her reliability, adaptability, and quick thinking. New recruit, Harry John Pugh, joins us on the sound desk having arrived from St Neot’s where it seems he ran the whole backstage department almost singlehandedly and can be relied upon for his enthusiasm and skill. Assisting the stage management team is Zoe Munday, a long-time member of the LWC stage crew who is hoping to pursue a career in the theatre when she completes her studies this summer. She will be ably assisted by Maria Lilley who can be relied on to organise actors, radio microphones and props as well as set changes. Set pieces, furniture and props will be invisibly made to appear and disappear by a dedicated team of rarely seen stage crew, including Flynn Semmelhaack, Tobias Harris, Eloise MacDonald and Neve Medhurst.

The cast have been meticulously measured and costumed by our Head of Textiles, Mrs Rebecca Lodge-Maynard who has been organising outfits and on hand with needles at the ready for last minute alterations and repairs to the wonderful costumes provided by Michelle at Costumes Solutions. There would be no show without a set and props and an enthusiastic team of staff, partners, and volunteers who gave up their Sunday to unload and build the set provided by Scenery Solutions of Eastleigh. They will be staying up until 3.00am to dismantle everything, led by the enthusiastic Mr James Upton, a former pupil and Head of Tech, currently completing his degree and pursuing a career in the backstage industries. Months of thought, planning and sleepless nights have brought this show together, with all backstage activities coordinated by myself. I am very grateful to all the willing, patient and dedicated students who form the stage crew at LWC and to all the staff and professionals helping the magic to happen onstage for you.
