Introduction

Each year we welcome up to 60 children into Bramley House in 1st Form (Year 7), and over 60 into the Senior School in 3rd Form (Year 9). In addition, each year a signiﬁcant number of students join us in the Sixth Form from schools both in the local area and from further aﬁeld. Entry into other year groups is possible subject to availability.

We are selective but not ‘highly selective’. All candidates should be capable of achieving nine good passes at GCSE and be enthusiastic about contributing to the whole school community.

We offer full, weekly, and ﬂexi boarding in all year groups as well as day places, and each year we are able to support a number of means-tested bursaries.

LWC welcomes pupils from all over the world, and we have a thriving international community.

The Lord Wandsworth Foundation supports children who have been bereaved of one or both parents or have lost their support through other circumstances, to beneﬁt from the structure and stability of a boarding environment. Visits & Open Days

Our Open Events, held throughout the year, provide an excellent opportunity for you to ﬁnd out more about us and to explore our stunning 1,200-acre campus, including our Houses, our state-of-the-art Science Centre, and our Sixth Form Centre. All our events give you the chance to see the College on a normal working day and meet the Headmaster and our wonderful pupils.

At our Headmaster’s Receptions, we host up to 20 families. The morning starts with coffee and the opportunity to meet informally with the Headmaster and some of our senior academic and pastoral staff. This is followed by an address from our Headmaster and a tour with some of our pupils.

At our Open Mornings, we host a larger number of families. The mornings start with a pupil-led tour of the campus, where you’ll get the chance to ask questions of those who really know what goes on! This is followed by coffee and a welcome talk from the Headmaster, plus a Q&A session with a panel of students.

In addition, the College hosts a number of specialised Open Events for Bramley House (1st

and 2nd Form) and Sixth Form entry. Personal visits, which can be tailored to your child’s individual needs and interests, can also be arranged.

Entry to 1st Form

ADMISSION PROCESS

At 11, students join our fabulous Bramley House, home to all our 1st and 2nd Form pupils. Surrounded by its own playing ﬁelds and gardens, Bramley provides the perfect starting point for the LWC journey.

You may register your child at any time although we recommend the ideal time to be two years prior to entry. The deadline for registration is 1st December prior to the year of entry. If you miss the registration deadline and we still have places available, we are happy to accept late applications.

All candidates who have registered are invited to take the LWC Pre-Test which can be taken either at their current school or at the College in the Autumn term of their Year 6. For further information on the LWC Pre-Test and for sample questions, please click here.

All applicants are invited to one of our innovative Assessment Days. Rather than relying solely on traditional testing, our assessment process has been carefully designed to bring out the very best in each young person and give every applicant the opportunity to shine.

Scholarships for 1st Form

Throughout the day, pupils enjoy a carousel of engaging activities that allow us to explore their creativity, problem-solving, communication and teamwork in a relaxed and supportive environment. The day also includes a fun and interactive group interview, alongside an individual interview, enabling us to get to know each child as an individual and gain a genuine understanding of the qualities they would bring to the Lord Wandsworth College community. There is also plenty of time to relax and get to know one another over a delicious lunch in Julyans, giving applicants a taste of everyday life at LWC and the warm, friendly community that makes the College so special.

We also request reports from current schools during the Autumn term of Year 6. Offers are made prior to the February half-term of Year 6.

Each year we offer scholarships for entry into 1st Form. Scholarships are honorary but can be augmented by a means-tested bursary.

Entry to 3rd Form

ADMISSION PROCESS

Pupils joining us in 3rd Form become members of one of our seven senior houses, where they beneﬁt from the care and support of their Houseparent, Resident Tutors and Matrons. Whether boarding or day pupils, every child quickly becomes part of a close-knit house community that sits at the heart of life at Lord Wandsworth College.

When to register

For families following the standard pretesting route, we recommend registering during Year 5, ahead of the LWC Pre-Test in the Autumn Term of Year 6. This gives families plenty of time to visit the College, understand the admissions process and prepare for the published assessment dates.

We also recognise that some families may not be ready to apply during Year 6. We therefore reserve a limited number of 3rd Form places for a further formal assessment round during Year 7. Subject to availability, an additional assessment round is also held during Year 8.

As the number of places available may reduce at each stage, families considering a later application are encouraged to contact the Admissions Team as early as possible.

Year 6 Assessment Route

Most families apply for 3rd Form entry through our standard Year 6 pre-testing route.

We recommend registering during Year 5, ahead of the LWC Pre-Test in the Autumn Term of Year 6.

All registered candidates are invited to take the LWC Pre-Test, which can be completed either at their current school or at the College during the Autumn Term of Year 6. Applicants are assessed in English, Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Successful applicants receive a deferred offer for entry into 3rd Form. Their place is not normally dependent upon subsequent Common Entrance, PSB or equivalent results, although we expect pupils to continue making appropriate academic and personal progress before joining the College.

Year 7 Assessment Route

We appreciate that some families may not be ready to apply during Year 6, or may only begin considering LWC at a later stage.

We therefore reserve a limited number of 3rd Form places for a further formal assessment round during Year 7.

Applicants complete assessments in English, Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning and NonVerbal Reasoning. These are designed to help us understand whether each young person is likely to be able to access and beneﬁt from the College’s curriculum.

Candidates are also invited to an Assessment Day, including a range of activities and interviews designed to explore their creativity, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, interests and personal qualities.

We also request reports and a satisfactory reference from each applicant’s current school.

Offers are made according to the published Year 7 admissions timetable and the availability of day, ﬂexi, weekly and full boarding places.

Scholarships at 3rd Form

Entry to Sixth Form

ADMISSION PROCESS

Our Sixth Form students consistently achieve excellent exam results, while still enjoying our extensive co-curricular activities and leadership opportunities. Students enjoy the use of a dedicated Sixth Form Centre, Zanetas, a student-designed space with its own café. A growing focus on life after school means they develop greater conﬁdence and ambition as they prepare for university and beyond.

Our current requirement for entry into the Sixth Form is a minimum of six grade 5s at GCSE (or the equivalent) preferably with at least a grade 7 in the subjects to be studied at A Level.

Candidates are invited to attend one of our Sixth Form Assessment Days in the Autumn or Spring term where they will meet the Sixth Form Leadership Team and College Prefects, giving

them the opportunity to ﬁnd out more about life in the LWC Sixth Form. The deadline for registration is 1 December prior to the year of entry and places are offered in the Spring Term prior to entry.

International Students

For our international boarders, Lord Wandsworth College offers a unique opportunity to truly immerse themselves in British culture.

From the moment they arrive, pupils become integral members of our supportive boarding houses, where our dedicated pastoral team understands what it means to be away from home. It’s an enriching experience, designed to help them embrace new perspectives and ﬁnd their place within our vibrant community.

All students applying for places must have a high level of written and spoken English in order to cope with the academic and social demands of life in a boarding school. Pupils applying whose ﬁrst language is not English will be asked to undertake an English assessment.

Candidates applying for Sixth Form may be asked to sit assessments in the subjects they wish to study at A Level. All international applicants also complete a Password English Language Assessment as part of the admissions process. This enables us to assess each pupil’s English language proﬁciency and ensure they have the language skills needed to thrive academically and socially at Lord Wandsworth College. For pupils joining Sixth Form, we would typically expect applicants to achieve a minimum Password score of 5.5 (eqivalent to IELTS 5.5+).

The application process is made up of three components: entrance tests, an informal interview with the Headmaster, a member of the Senior Leadership Team, or the Deputy Head (Sixth Form), plus a reference from the

applicant’s current school.

All students whose parents do not live in the UK are required to have a UK-based guardian. The guardian should be a responsible adult accredited by AEGIS or the BSA. Where the guardian is a close friend or family member, they must meet the requirements set out in the AEGIS Guardianship Organisation Quality Standards. Guardians must be contactable and able to accommodate the pupil in an emergency and whenever the College is closed, including during half-terms and exeat weekends.

The College is a UKVI licence holder and can sponsor students under the Student Visa scheme.

A non-refundable registration fee of £300 is payable at this point.

Please note that registration does not guarantee your child a place at the school but does ensure that they are entered into our assessment process.

Further Information

Admissions Fees

A non-refundable fee of £300 is payable on registration.

To accept an offer, a deposit of £1,000 (or a term’s fees for international pupils) must be paid. If the pupil does not take up the place after acceptance, the deposit is nonrefundable.

Deposits are refunded without interest after the pupil has left the school and after all fees and extras have been settled.

Fee Support

Bursaries are available where parents can demonstrate that they would not otherwise be able to send their child to the College because of limited ﬁnancial means. Discounts are available when three or more siblings attend the College or St Neot’s concurrently.

The deadline for applications for bursary support is 1 December prior to the year of entry.

Curriculum Support

Our Curriculum Support department caters for a variety of learning needs, based in our newly refurbished Summercombe Centre. It is important that we are made aware of any additional learning requirements your child has at the beginning of the application process. We will request learning support reports from your child’s current school and will need to see any specialist reports so that we can make sure we are able to fully support your child.
