MOLDOVA

Zirnesti

We thank the Lord for His blessing upon the start of our summer camp programme here in Moldova. It has been a busy and encouraging beginning to the season, and we are grateful to all who have prayed for this outreach. Our two English Camps have now been completed, and we can truly say that we have seen the Lord’s blessing. Over the two weeks, around 70 young people attended the camps. We were greatly encouraged to have a wonderful international team serving alongside us, with volunteers from Canada, Ireland, England, and Australia. Their enthusiasm, love for the young people, and willingness to serve made a tremendous contribution to the camps. Each camp lasted one week and included a varied programme of English lessons, games, sports, activities, crafts, and Bible teaching. The relaxed atmosphere gave many opportunities to build friendships and to speak personally with the young people about the Gospel. Most importantly, we rejoice that several young people trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour during the camps. Please pray that they will be encouraged and continue to grow in their faith. Many others were clearly convicted of their need of salvation and listened attentively as God’s Word was opened each day. Please pray that the seed that has been sown will continue to bear fruit in their lives. Many young people are troubled by the seemingly emptiness of life. Pray that they will come to the One who offers living water freely. Our desire is not simply to have one successful week of contact, but to continue building relationships with these young people throughout the year. We are therefore planning regular events at the Bethesda Centre, where they can continue learning English while also studying the Bible and hearing more of the Gospel. While the English Camps have now finished, our Children’s Camps are just beginning and

will continue into August. The first camp will welcome approximately 120 children, and we thank the Lord for providing an excellent team of local workers, volunteers, and helpers from overseas to serve together. This year’s camp theme is The Wild West, through which we trust the Gospel will be presented in a clear and memorable way. The storyline points the children to the wonderful truth that the Lord Jesus Christ is our Substitute. The children learn that left to themselves, none could escape God’s righteous judgement because of their sin. But in His great love, the Lord Jesus came into the world and died in their place. Through His precious shed blood their sins can be forgiven, and they can be made right with God. Please pray for the children who will attend throughout the summer. We expect around 1,000 children to come to the camps over the coming weeks. Pray also for the many parents who attend each Friday for the closing programme, where they too hear a clear presentation of the Gospel. May the Holy Spirit convict them of their sin and lead many to saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We thank you for your continued prayers and support. C. 2004 (Australia)

Ezek 31-33

Palo Negro

On the 24 of June, two earthquakes struck northern Venezuela. The first one measured 7.2 and was followed by a 7.5 earthquake 39 seconds later causing much destruction, particularly in La Guaira State where nearly 800 buildings Sisters in Caracas preparing toiletries collapsed. Though for homeless people many people were rescued, over 5,000 lost their lives and thousands are still unaccounted for. Government response was limited and many people searched through the rubble for loved ones with their bare hands, until much appreciated international help arrived. th

One dear sister passed away along with two of her children and her unsaved parents. Her third child was pulled out of the rubble alive the next day by believers and reunited with his father who was away from the area during the earthquakes. There is an assembly there Christians with medical supplies and the believers are meeting in a home because the Gospel Hall was damaged. Most of their houses were damaged and some have moved away to live with family in other parts of the country. Since the day after the earthquakes, believers from Caracas (25km away) and other parts of the country have gone to help, offering medical care to the injured, food and clothing to many who are homeless, living in tents and temporary shelters. A tent was erected in Catia La Mar near the Gospel Hall for this purpose and the gospel is preached at night. Other believers are going daily to other parts of the state to help, setting up a small tent with food and medical supplies, and

preaching the gospel as opportunity arises. Thousands of tracts, hundreds of colouring books with bible verses for children, New Testaments and Bibles have been distributed. Pray that God will use His Word as He has promised, and many of these dear people who have lost all their earthly belongings will find the Saviour. The government has set up temporary shelters in Caracas but give little assistance. The assemblies there have also reached out to help, and gather the many children for bible classes.

Gospel Tent in Catia La Mar

In the area around Moron, near the epicentre, over 700 houses fell but few people died. Since there are over 25 assemblies in the affected area, many believers suffered loss but only one sister passed away. There were 17 family members in her house when the roof fell on them, all unsaved, Bible Class in a shelter for children but they were spared by the mercy of God. The Christians have helped the homeless with food and clothing, opening their homes to give shelter. A brother allowed homeless families to erect tents in his yard and the local assembly is having nightly gospel meetings there. A large tent was erected in La Raya in front of the Gospel Hall. It was damaged so the assembly is having Gospel Meetings in the tent and using it to help people during the day. Brethren who are Civil Engineers are assessing the structural damage suffered by the homes of believers. The houses that can be saved are already being repaired by brethren from different assemblies. Work will commence soon on the houses that have to be replaced, Lord willing. We live between Moron and La Guaira, and though a number of buildings were vacated due to structural damage, the believers in the 12 assemblies in this area are all well. Gospel efforts are being held by two assemblies in Maracay, and we commenced a series in Cagua on Lord’s Day in association with the assembly in San Mateo. Your continued prayers for this country are greatly appreciated. C. 1999

Mr Umezu, now in his mid-70s, met his Finnish wife in Finland many years ago and brought his young bride to live in Japan. For years neither of them showed much interest in spiritual things until, through the work of late brother Jim McAllister, Mrs Umezu was led to know the Lord. Over the last twenty-five or more years, our sister has prayed for her husband and we are rejoicing that recently he put his faith in Christ and was baptised in Matsubushi, Japan last Sunday.

We are rejoicing, along with the thirty or more believers in fellowship, that a lost sheep has been found! Do rejoice with us that the Lord does hear and answer prayer.

BRAZIL

Ituiutaba

While Britain has been having unusually high temperatures, we have suffered from an exceptionally cold spell. Climate change seems to be affecting most parts of globe. How good to trust in an unchanging God and know that He is in complete control. This morning in our daily reading, we noticed that it is God who sends the snow but also the warm heat, ice and His breath to melt it. He also controls our changing circumstances and heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. What a competent and caring God we have! It has been a joy to cooperate with the local assemblies and minister to their needs. This month I had the privilege of ministering in two local assemblies, as well as continuing studies and preaching engagements in our assembly. The Monthly Bible School still draws a good number and we have been uplifted and challenged by the Lord’s final ministry to His disciples. We have felt the challenge to be more like the Saviour. Last Saturday, Walter attended a meeting organised by Jairo Pantoja, one of the National Workers we support. It was well attended by brothers coming from the assemblies in town and some coming from as far as Uberlândia and Uberaba. The subject chosen was “sanctification”. If all we who attended lived a separated life we would see a greater impact on the world around. We have mentioned in past correspondence the joy we have had as a local assembly in seeing boys from the immediate neighbourhood attending. Recently one of these teenagers, Mateus, professed faith in the Lord Jesus for which we give God thanks. Last week the members of the assembly had a stand at a Bazar. A good number of Christians from the assembly were on hand to help, show Christ’s love, talk to those who came, invite to services and distribute literature. Our heartfelt thanks for your continued prayers. C. 1966

Saturday 5th UKRAINE

Summer Camp

Ezek 40-42

Lutsk

We are having our 22nd camp in Ukraine starting July 5th and it is the biggest yet. We rent the camp facilities and over 110 young people (plus staff) from the children’s home, Sunday school and UCC (Ukraine Child Care) will be with us along with James Colledge, his wife Nadia and baby daughter Mia. The journey from England to Lutsk via Poland is not pleasant due to difficulties at the Polish/ Ukrainian border. We have children’s Gospel meetings at the camp each morning from 10am to 11.30am and each evening from 8pm to 9pm. The young people will hear a lot of Gospel and we would appreciate your prayers that some of the young people will come to know Christ as Saviour. Lutsk Time spent in the basement with all the children is not very comfortable, yet very necessary. The frequency of attacks by missiles and drones is increasing and, for the children, it is unsettling. Over the past week Russia has launched 18 ballistic missiles and more than 1,270 drones. Destruction and death are daily occurrences. Some in the assembly leave their apartments and come to the orphanage to shelter in the basement. At least in the basement there is a measure of safety. We all have a government app on our phones that warns us of the imminent danger of incoming missiles and tells us when it is safe to leave the basement. Life is different but God has been good to us and the children. He has preserved the children, the staff, us and the building. We appreciate your continued prayers for our safety and blessing. Psalm 6:3 ‘The Lord hath heard my supplication: the Lord will receive my prayer.’

Children’s Home It’s holiday time and the children have three months of school holidays, so it is our challenge how to keep all the children occupied! As you know, if you don’t keep them busy, they will find some mischief to do! Our swimming pools have proved to be a real blessing and we make full use of them. In the home we organise a one-hour Bible lesson each day, three painting lessons each week and two craft lessons per week. We have a daily competition for the children to have the cleanest rooms and some of the older girls help our cooks in the kitchen. We try our best to make our home a real home and give all the children as much freedom as possible. We don’t run an institution, but a home where the young ones are loved, cared for and provided for. It is an encouragement to us to see the children learn their Bible verses, sing Sunday school songs during the day as well as see them sitting around the home reading their Bibles or story books. We look to the Lord for their salvation. Please keep praying. C. 1993

Gospel for Scotland The Edinburgh Military Tattoo, combined with the Edinburgh Arts Festival, greatly increases the population of Edinburgh during the month of August each year. For several years we, along with many other believers, have taken the opportunity to distribute thousands of John 3:16 bags during a week in August. Before moving to Orkney, Graeme Paterson and I organised the outreach and now Joel Hawthorne and I have that responsibility. The work begins long before August with the bags being ordered, transported, packed with a John’s Gospel, stored and then transported to Edinburgh. We have the use of two parking spaces at The Mound in Edinburgh which we use as a base for the outreach. The hard part of the work is done each day by the wonderful young (and not so young) helpers who go into the streets with the bags and give them out to the thousands of people passing by. This year we plan to give out 30,000 bags and John’s Gospels. Please pray for the helpers as they work so hard each day giving out the bags and chatting to people about the Gospel. Please pray for the bags which contain the Word of God and have references to online Gospel resources and carry the Understanding the Gospel project information. Many of these people are tourists and we will never see them again as they return to their countries. The good seed of the Word of God is truly scattered to the four corners of the world through this outreach in Edinburgh. C. 1998

Last month, we had the joy of seeing two believers obeying the Lord in baptism. They were received by the little assembly in the neighbouring town of Aguaí, but were baptised here in Pirassununga (the hall in Aguaí doesn’t have a baptistry).

Pirassununga

We were able to publish the Ritchie commentary on Jeremiah last month. We value your prayers for this literature, that can reach places we are unable to go. Remember also the short daily Meditations sent through WhatsApp since March of 2020. The number of believers receiving these Meditations is now over sixteen hundred — pray for wisdom in preparing these little messages. Thank you for your prayers. May God bless you as you seek to serve Him in your region.

TANZANIA

Dar-es-Salam

The work among the children at Watoto Wa Thamani (WWT) brings us great joy and encouragement. To hear them belting out choruses, saying memory verses, being attentive to Bible stories, to watch them growing in confidence, skills in reading and writing, and to watch them having fun playing, helps focus our minds on our calling and our exercise to bring the gospel to children of poor families. Added to that, the two well-attended Kids’ Clubs, where the children participate with enthusiasm and drink in God’s Word emphasises how important it is to take these opportunities to sow spiritual seed into young lives. But alas, wherever the Lord’s work prospers, the evil one will be active to oppress the Lord’s people and damage His work. We feel that we are passing through a deep valley right now. One of the believers in the assembly is convinced his daughter is demon-possessed. She was taken to relatives for treatment – a mix of lotions and drinks together with prayers. She returned after two weeks without any change. If she has a spiritual problem, then it demands a spiritual solution. If she has a medical problem, it will benefit from a medical solution covered by our prayers. So, we offered to have our trusted doctor here look at her, give his opinion, and have any necessary tests. This was declined. They are keeping the whole matter secret, especially from the believers, for fear of gossip bringing shame on the family (a major problem here). Added to this, on our return from the UK, we discovered that MA, a sister in our fellowship, had secretly married a Muslim man. The rejection of ‘only in the Lord’ (1 Cor 7:39), of which she was aware, has caused the assembly to break fellowship with her, and the economics of it for her don’t stack up (he rents a room and doesn’t have a permanent job). Further, there’s been jealousy festering for some time over those who have benefitted from the love and grace of God in being provided through gifts with plots of land and nice, but simply built, houses. Our latest planned building project was placed on hold as the recipients were not behaving in a godly manner. Feeling spiritually and physically low, we took three days out last week, to get out of Dar to think things through and try to make sense of what the Lord was doing. We returned refreshed only to discover that our home had been robbed. There were no signs of a break in. All doors were locked. Every window has security bars. The office door was locked and its windows shut. Yet the perpetrators got into the office, found and stole all funds, hidden in various places, allocated and prepared to help needy folk, school students, and families until the end of August. The petty cash for WWT, the WWT termly fees just collected, change collected over the months to pay salaries, and some workers savings were also among funds stolen. We were left numb.

Suspecting an inside job, our regular workers and BA (covering nights for M, a fellow elder, who, thankfully, is on holiday this month) were called together to try to establish the facts, as getting a confession from any of them was preferred to involving the police. Nothing was admitted, but rather they themselves suggested involving the police, which we did, and a week on they (including BI, a young brother in the assembly) had been in custody for four days in conditions which are far from pleasant, and then out on bail. They were banned from contacting us. We had also been afraid to intervene, as one request for their release after six days was refused. So on Friday, Stephen arrived at the station unannounced, arranged an appointment with the CID officer-in-charge later that afternoon, and in direct conversation with her, secured the release of three of our workers from their bail conditions, reporting to the station and the dropping of all charges against them (not charges from us, but from the police). All have indicated that they will return to work this week. Others remain under investigation as persons of interest. The fallout is wide reaching but might help focus minds. Now that we cannot give out the planned help, they will have to find ways of helping themselves. We have had moments when we have been tempted to just book a flight and leave, but that would not be ‘to finish well’. We must trust the will and purposes of the One who goes before us and is our rearguard. We cherish your prayers for the individuals mentioned and the circumstances that surround them.

This week the annual Men’s Bible Week is taking place. The Zulu believers thoroughly enjoy these teaching session and assemblies throughout our province of KwaZulu Natal benefit and the lessons learned are spread across the region. This year Andrew Grieve is the main speaker. He started off this afternoon, giving an introduction to the book of Acts, which was well accepted by the saints. Numbers attending this year are down slightly. The two local Zulu evangelists are scheduled to share in the ministry. However, our brother Jabulani Cele had an accident this morning before he could set out to drive to the venue. His vehicle is quite badly damaged and he himself, while not seriously injured, is badly shaken. Please pray that the Lord will undertake for him personally, as well as the programme of teaching that may be interrupted as a result of the accident. It is amazing that we do not experience more such accidents. The driving in this country is extremely dangerous, with drivers routinely ignoring red traffic lights. There is almost no attempt to monitor such behaviour, so we are grateful to the Lord for preserving us every day. Last week, we had our brother Alasdair Baijal helping with ministry of the Word. He took up the subject of the Churches of Revelation, covering five of the seven. The ministry was challenging and most beneficial and the saints were greatly encouraged. We value your continued prayers. C. 1968

Dan 7-9

Writing from N. Ireland

It was a real joy to spend time once again with the assembly in Cancún. To have witnessed its growth over the past ten years of visiting has been greatly encouraging. Seeing around 70 gathered on Sunday morning reminded us how wonderfully the Lord has been at work, gathering a people for Himself in a city where religious confusion is so widespread. During the week’s gospel meetings, I felt exercised to take up the story of the Titanic each evening, concluding on the final night with the moving story of John Harper. The series encouraged many to attend consistently throughout the week. Bearing in mind that the World Cup was taking Believers in Cancun place at the same time as the meetings, we wondered how attendance might be affected. Yet it was remarkable to see a full hall, including several teenagers who were attending for the very first time. Now we leave behind the precious Word of God that has been preached. There are a number of individuals who showed real concern about their need of salvation. Please pray especially for the following: • José Arreguín is 79 years old and attended every night. His wife, Yolanda, trusted Christ back in 2017. José was brought up in the Roman Catholic religion, but he listened attentively each evening. Please pray that the truths he has heard will continue to speak to his heart. • Norma, a lady approaching 70 years of age, missed only one meeting despite ongoing health struggles. After the meeting on Wednesday evening, she told us that the message was exactly what she needed to hear. Pray that the Lord will continue His work in her life. • David and Nelly, who live directly across the street from the Turkingtons, attended three nights. They have openly expressed that they would like to be saved. Please pray that they may come to personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. • Two young mothers attended the final few meetings. They listened carefully to the gospel, and both already send their children to the Sunday School. Pray that the seed sown in their hearts will bear fruit.

• Luis attended four nights. His wife and daughter are already in fellowship in the assembly. Before coming, he believed he was ready for heaven, but through listening to the gospel he realised that he is not. Pray that conviction will lead him to the Saviour. • A local doctor, who was unable to attend most evenings because of work, requested that each meeting be recorded and sent to her. She faithfully listened to every message and came in person on the final night. After speaking with her, it was evident that she was deeply troubled concerning eternal matters. Please remember her in prayer. • A lady in her 70s attended for the first time on the final evening. Her husband trusted the Lord for salvation during the previous week’s meetings, and after hearing the gospel herself, she showed clear conviction. She openly confessed that she, too, now wants to be saved. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will continue His gracious work in her heart and that she will soon come to rest in Christ alone. Pray that God will continue to work in salvation. We would also value your prayers as, God willing, we return to West Bengal and Gangtok at the end of August for a further series of gospel meetings. Please pray that the Lord will once again go before us, prepare hearts, and be pleased to gather precious souls to Himself. CHARLES DAVIDSON

Portage la Prairie

We would ask you to pray for the current children’s series here in Steinbach that we are holding in a tent. On Monday morning it was very frustrating to enter the tent to find over a third of the plastic chairs tossed and scattered about. On setting things back in order, I then discovered that five of them had been broken one way or another. Thankfully this morning nothing had been touched. I had gone out late last night to check the tent and was concerned as I could hear voices near the school building, which is on the other side of the road. As I walked around the school grounds, four young men got into a car at midnight and drove off. Whether they were the culprits or not, I was relieved they hadn’t headed for the tent. So please pray for the Lord to put a hedge about the tent and to preserve it from any further vandalism. The meetings have seen several new families attending, plus some who came last year and we’re averaging around 55 children. There were also 10 adults at yesterday’s first meeting. It’s very hot so playing games after the meeting has been very draining! One or two families who were with us in Kleefeld at the beginning of the month have joined us here. We had a storm about an hour or so

before the first meeting in Kleefeld but thankfully the sun was shining when it was time to start. We began with 58 and peaked at 81 with 11 adults, so it was most encouraging. Please pray for the Seed sown. Thanks too for your prayers for the series in Akron. We averaged some 60 plus children including several teenagers who regularly attend their youth activities. The assembly had made an amazing display in the basement to match our theme and put a lot of effort into bringing children and having games with them after the meeting. Last Sunday we concluded our second season of ‘Preach in the Park’ in the K. R. Barkman Park that’s opposite the end of the road that we live on. We moved it from August to July, in the hope we could avoid cancellation due to rain. However, our second week had to be moved to the hall due to an orange heat warning of over 40 degrees Celsius. Our third week saw some 18 visitors, including two couples who have never attended our evening Gospel meetings, but come regularly to our Sunday morning ministry meetings. Once again, the saints have supported very well. We have had a picnic, pizza and this past Sunday afternoon a barbecue, which encourages all to stay and enjoy fellowship together. Most visitors stay and this gives us good opportunities to chat with them. It was particularly encouraging to see four folk return from last year’s outreach. Please pray for the Word to be blessed and for some of these contacts to come along to the hall, God willing. I’m looking forward to my first visit to Hamilton, ON from 10th – 14th August, for a late afternoon VBS outreach, which will conclude this summer’s four children’s outreaches. Your prayers would be appreciated for strength and freshness, as I take up five Bible Shepherds. Finally, we would value your prayers concerning our trip to England from 24th August to 10th September. We are grateful for your fellowship at the throne of grace and hope you are being encouraged in your own activities for the Lord this summer. C. 2000

Camundambala / Writing from England

We have so very much to thank the Lord for over the past 30 days in Angola: health, safety, wisdom, encouragement, and the blessing and privilege of serving Him alongside fellow Angolan believers. The majority of the time here was spent working on the back wall of the mission house in Saurimo (our late sister Ruth Hadley’s old house), alongside four Angolan brethren. That part of the house is now stable, having been strengthened inside and outside, along with finishing the plastering of the long side wall which was strengthened last year in the dry season.

Mission house in Saurimo

On arrival in Camundambala Mission Station, we found that they had had little water pressure for over a month, and despite giving them the equipment they said they needed three days in a row, we then had no water. Jonathan went to see what was going on and noticed a one-way valve had been fitted backwards during maintenance at some point! Nice to have a simple answer to a very big problem. The usual welding and repair of vehicles, tools and equipment continued. It is a pleasure to be able to help the beloved local saints and to do what to us seem small things, but to them so important. Due to the severe heat of the sun which dries up and cracks the plastic water storage tanks, Jonathan and Felixardo, his English-speaking helper who attends university (nursing) in the evening, were able to construct a roof structure over our 5,000 litre water tank, against the wall of the workshop. This also offers cover from the rain, and shade from the sun when needed to work outside. This continued a project started some years ago. God willing, when back in November we can concrete the floor. On Sunday evenings up to 27 young men and women joined us in the home for over three hours. Over the three Sundays, we were able to read 1, 2 and 3 John with them, with a quiz on each chapter to help them understand the truth taught in them. On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons 15 young sisters would come for a sewing lesson and then Ruth was able to read 1 and 2 Peter with them,

along with the usual questions and discussion time. This was very much about immorality issues amongst the girls, 6 of which are single parents (inc. the 16yr old girls). The truths in Peter made this issue able to be dealt with.

Water valve

During all this, our home was open daily to any of the 32 young people age 16 and over to come and recite any memory verses/ passages/lists they had been taught in our home over the past 4 years. This was a huge undertaking for Ruth to be available to sit and listen and reward them for their effort but was an amazing encouragement to know that despite the lessening time we are able to visit the country now, the Word of God taught still abides in their hearts and minds and we pray it will be a blessing throughout their lives, and the lives of others too.

Sisters sewing lesson & Bible discussion time

Other sources of encouragement to us from the UK during this time were the many weeks spent in gospel outreach work, in coffee bars, tents, drive-ins and gospel halls, and the two baptisms we heard of. We continue to pray for the ongoing sowing of the seed and preaching of the gospel in the UK this week as we travel home, with the camp work starting too. JONATHAN & RUTH SINGLETON

WALES

Carmarthen

We are very grateful to the Lord for His faithfulness and are enjoying serving Him in a more full-time way. We are also very thankful for the support of many of the saints, and particularly the fellowship of our home assembly in many different ways. During the early part of the summer, we have been involved in Gospel drive-in meetings in West Wales at Fishguard, Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock. These towns received thousands of leaflets, heard the word preached in the open-air, and were invited via visitation on the doors. The response was varied, but we met quite a few believers in these areas who are a bit disillusioned with their churches. One man called Callum who is young in the faith said, “this is exactly what Pembroke Dock needs”. We are in contact with him and are praying about further meetings in that area. With the help of James Davies and brethren from the Neath assembly, we have pitched a gospel tent in Deri and Llanelli to date. The meetings in Llanelli were very encouraging with the tent almost full every night. The tent was pitched on a prominent rugby field in the centre of the town, and the whole town knew it was there. A good number of unsaved people came through the tent, as well as believers from different denominations who were lapping up the simple preaching of the gospel. We are praying that many of them would see the truth of baptism and assembly fellowship. The tireless support of Robert Davies and the saints in Llanelli was very much appreciated. The chairman of the rugby ground was so pleased with the interest he said, “this is something we could do next year.” We thank the Lord for the open door. We are currently engaged in outreach meetings with Cameron Piper, Kinnaird Bragg, Neal Hartridge and the saints at Cumberland Chapel, Cleveleys. We also plan to have a group outreach on the island of Guernsey with Andy Mullan, Cameron Piper and the saints there. Another group outreach in Newcastle with Dan Bilton and Andrew Hutchison is also planned. Working with groups of brethren allows more seed to be sown, and we are looking to the Lord to bless the outreach in these places. A farmer called Alan, who lives outside Aberystwyth, allowed us to put a gospel text on one of his fields and we have been in contact with him since then. He has asked for a Welsh Bible, and due to the political and moral change across the nation, he is open to the gospel. He asked at his dinner table in front of his family – “how did you become a Christian?” We told him freely about sin, judgment to come and salvation in Christ. Please pray for this man. C. 2026

ZAMBIA

Chitokoloki

It is camp season. Senior camps were held during the Easter holidays and intermediate girls last weekend with the public holidays. Around 70 girls attended the latest camp. They learnt John 10 as their memory verses and each of the sessions focused on an aspect related to sheep and the Shepherd. We pray for each one of these girls that they will continue to remember what they learnt and that it will result in salvation. Girls have a very hard life in Zambia – there are many challenges which they face especially in relation to marriage, education and pregnancy. Please pray also for young Christians here in Chitokoloki – there are a lot of pressures and temptations. We are grateful to have a lovely conference centre with dedicated accommodation and facilities which is ideal for the camp work. The month of August is Zambian school holidays and three more camps are planned during this time. Please remember them in your prayers. This is a general election year with the presidential elections on 13th August. Pray for peace and for continued freedom for preaching the gospel and serving the Lord here. We currently have an open door and there is a thirst for the things of God. Long may that continue. There have been some very sad cases recently. A village in the neighbouring province was ransacked by thieves who burnt the houses with families inside and beat people to death, including a little baby. It was an extremely traumatic and thus quite a highprofile incident. Four patients came to us for treatment following it – with severe injuries and burns, one of whom died in hospital. Despite losing eight members of the family including children and grandchildren, as well as all their belongings and houses, the family continue to have a strong faith in the Lord. They met to thank the hospital staff for their care. They shared how they saw their experiences as similar to Job and that the Lord who saw Job through would also help them. They said they recognised people were watching how they would react and realised that their response would be a testimony to their community. There is usually such a strong belief in witchcraft and traditional beliefs when such incidents happen. It is so refreshing and inspiring to see a family grounded in their faith and trusting God. They would very much appreciate your prayers as they return home and try to rebuild their lives. Pray also that unbelievers would be touched and spoken to by the faith of this dear family. C. 2009

Many thanks to those who pray for us in our corner of the Lord’s vineyard. I have been thinking recently on the metaphor of the breach in the wall from Ezekiel 22:30. The besieged city depended on soldiers to stand in the gap where a breach had been made. In that day the Lord looked for a man to intercede for the city but found none. It greatly encourages us that there are many in different parts of the world who stand in the gap for the unsaved today. We have been away from home for quite a number of months this year. In February and late April/early May we were in the deep south and then the far north of the country and had many open doors for the preaching of the Gospel with considerable contact with young people. It was a real thrill to be able to bring the message to quite a number who had never heard the Gospel before. But in one lunch time meeting at a secondary school, it was one of the teachers whose heart was touched by the message but evidently not yet saved. Interestingly, the night before that meeting I was led to teach some students on fulfilled prophecy as evidence for the truthfulness of the Bible. The next day I found out that there was another teacher who was seeking to undermine the confidence of the students in the Bible. I was greatly encouraged that I had been led so providentially to this subject.

Preaching with translator, brother Subin

We also continue to have much opportunity for ministry meetings in God’s Word. I have been pleased to take a series in Philippians, Luke’s Parables, Isaiah 40, and the Life of Jacob. Please pray for a very full schedule over the next half of the year. I have a number of ministry weekends with various assemblies coming up and it continues to give me great joy to prepare messages

that we pray might refresh the hearts of the saints and strengthen His people. Please stand with us in prayer as I continue to develop a series in the Life of Jacob that has been of particular joy to my heart. Likewise, prayers are greatly needed for some lectures that I have been asked to take on the Trinity. This is a deep but vital subject, and I feel my weakness to take such a deep subject in a way that will honour the Lord and strengthen His people. We appreciate your prayers also for a missionary conference at the Victoria Ave Gospel Hall in Palmerston North in October. I am excited to bring some messages with brethren from other parts of the world. Prayers are needed for help for us all and that the conference will be used of the Lord to revive the work of the Gospel both in New Zealand and around the world. C. 2006 (New Zealand)

FRANCE

Last week David spent four days visiting an assembly in the north of France. During those four days he preached five times and led a Saturday morning workshop. As regards his preaching, he spoke from the 12 minor prophets. At the workshop, the subject was “How to handle criticism”. This involved a lot of discussion and the one hour and thirty minutes just flew by! Negative criticism is “the national sport” in France, according to many people, believers and nonbelievers. One can do so much harm with the tongue. May the Lord help us all to ENcourage and not to DIScourage brothers and sisters in the lord. In our home assembly in Lyon, we have just finished the reading plan started in January. A few dozen people committed themselves to reading the whole New Testament in six months, reading the same chapters every day. What a challenge but what a thrill to hear different testimonies from people who were spoken to by the Living Word of God. Our next major event is leading a camp early August. This will be in Brittany. 160 people will be present. Then in September God willing, we will be leading another camp with about 15 people present. We always see the Lord at work in these different camps on the Brittany coast. Once again, many thanks for your prayers. C. 1980/84

This year has been as busy as usual, save that the planned visit to Sri Lanka in March, in company with Sinclair Banks, had to be cancelled because of the war in the Middle East. We were sorry not to have been able to renew fellowship at that time, but hope to reschedule next year.

I was able to visit Tampa, Florida, for the conference towards the end of January. It was good to see the interest of so many young people and to be able to spend the morning after the conference meetings speaking to them about ways in which they might study the Bible. In Pamber Heath, at the end of April, it was most encouraging to spend a Saturday with many young people thinking about the preaching of the gospel and the conduct of meetings. So often it is the case that no guidance is given to young men starting out on the daunting journey of presenting the gospel in public and it seems that the conversations we had were well received. A number of teenagers came along to hear the gospel in Jersey, Channel Islands, in February. It was good to see the interest and we were encouraged with the response, especially from young men. The conferences at Basingstoke and Bicester were very well attended and it was a joy to see so many young people gathered with a sincere interest in the things of God. I was privileged to share in the ministry with Phil Coulson, Douglas Mowat and Iain Lewis over the course of the weekend, which I greatly enjoyed. C. 1992

Winston Churchill, on being asked once what his relationship to the church was, replied, “It’s rather like that of a buttress, I support it from the outside rather than a pillar from within”. The same can be said of the majority of the population here. While State church membership is very high, attendance is among the lowest in Europe. Nevertheless, and perhaps a reflection of the present uncertain, anxious and rootless times, many young people in particular are seeking a more stable foundation for their lives. Some are beginning to turn to ‘Christianity’ in an attempt to find stability. Recent experience has revealed that it is mostly young people who show the greatest interest at the literature stand in the town square, which some of the younger folk in our assembly man from time to time. This is a positive and encouraging development. Pray that this interest will continue and they will find the living Saviour. Occasionally, some come to our meeting on Sundays out of curiosity. Last Sunday a young couple in their twenties returned for a second time, having found our address on the internet. The girl is a believer, but her boyfriend is not, though he appears to have an open ear for the gospel. The old maxim, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression”, highlights how quickly people can make snap judgments, both positive and negative. So, we endeavor to make people feel welcome and always have tea/coffee when the meeting is over. This gives opportunity to answer questions that often arise, and hope and pray they will be encouraged enough to continue coming. The holiday season is upon us and, coupled with the fact that some members of our assembly work in the health service necessitating 24/7 shifts, this means that numbers at meetings fluctuate greatly just now. Our relatively isolated location on the southwest coast of the Jutland peninsula also means that we are largely dependent on our own resources for all assembly activities. However, we are thankful that we are able to hold our meeting each Sunday, especially when folk like the aforementioned couple turn up. As ever, there is hardly a family we know who is not struggling with some issue or burden. One very distressing case is that of a 12-year-old girl, the niece of one of our sisters. She has been suffering for a long time from a severe, life threatening, eating disorder, with little alleviation despite treatment. We have been praying that the Lord will intervene, heal her mind, and that she will “seek Him with all her heart and find Him”, as we continue to do for all those we are in contact with who do not yet know Him. Many thanks for your interest and prayers. RAYMOND & CAROL McCULLAGH

Micah 1-4

Cooroy, Queensland

“…Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock.” Gen 29:10 Our prayer is that this year will be like Jacob’s time when he opened up the well and water was drawn out to feed the flocks…that the Word of God will be abundantly expounded to the salvation of souls, and to refresh and encourage God’s dear people until the Lord returns.

This year has gone by fairly fast with around 45-48 Wednesday Eumundi Markets attended with the Bible Van, also 20 plus Rural Shows and other events. It’s wonderful to see many open doors. Eumundi Markets continue to bring many precious souls to the scripture stand from all over the world! Many bags of plaques and other free items are given away every Wednesday. What wonderful opportunities to spread His word! This keeps us busy making over 5,000 scripture plaques per year. We are thankful to the Lord for the many recurring rural show invitations and the weekly markets. Our desire is to be exactly where the Lord would have us to be. RI (Religious Instruction) classes at a local primary school are going well and we have Year 2 students each Monday. They’re very good listeners and eager to learn

Bible stories, verses and choruses. In March this year we were in Tasmania (a 2.5hour flight from home) for Gospel meetings sharing with David McKillen from N. Ireland, which we enjoyed. We pray that souls will come to Christ. In April, we had a Bible Exhibition at Salisbury assembly in Brisbane where the local believers were very supportive of the work. This was quite well attended over the 4.5 days. Nina and Michelle from Germany have visited Australia once again and were a great help in the exhibition and at various markets. Two more assemblies have expressed interest in holding Bible exhibitions in the foreseeable future also – in His will. We’ve had a long run of Rural Shows during May, June and July for which we give God thanks. May many be ready for the shout – the Word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword – He still saves. Prayer points We do appreciate the many prayers of the Lord’s dear people. • There are many believers out there who are in need of sound teaching in relation to being gathered unto His name, and future events. We are very thankful for literature like Jack Hay’s “Which Church” booklet, and many other assembly writers who expound the scriptures in booklet form. These tools are so helpful to hand out. • Many souls need to be saved and to find their place in a scripturally gathered assembly. • For continued acceptance into shows and markets to spread the Gospel. Writing from Abkhazia

“As for other matters, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honoured, just as it was with you”. 2 Thessalonians 3:1 We rejoiced that a couple Denis and Nadia believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and wanted to be baptised in His name. We do a special Bible study with them now. We continue to visit families in remote villages of Abkhazia with humanitarian aid. People are very grateful and open their homes for the Gospel work. This year, the Lord put it on Irina’s heart to use her medical knowledge in summer activities with children. I brought Lego sets from Moldova, a CPR mannequin and we also purchased a microscope and everything necessary for medical lessons with children. From the Lego sets the children assembled people, animals and plants, and then we held classes according to Genesis 1, teaching them how God, by His Word, created this world and how all cells were put together! We examined by microscope various insects, plants and a drop of blood. The children were absolutely delighted with God’s creation by what they saw through the microscope! Their parents also wanted to join our classes! One mother baked a nice pie for us as a gift. Then Irina showed on the CPR mannequin how Working with the Children to do artificial respiration. The lesson was according to Genesis 2, how God gave man the breath of life. And the children were again delighted with what they learned. Also, the children learned how to provide first aid. We taught them the most important lesson of all – that it is only the Lord Jesus Christ who can resurrect the dead and who can give eternal life to those who believe in Him.

Bakery Verse

A family in the assembly have a bakery business. Their central store stands right on the main road, the only road that goes from Russia through all of Abkhazia to Georgia. It means that absolutely all buses with local residents and tourists pass by this store. Now everyone is reading a new sign on the store: “Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life.” John 6:35. This family wants to tell everyone about their Saviour. Praise the Lord! Thanks again for your prayers, support and encouragements.

Renfrew

I returned to Romania for a brief Bible teaching visit from the 20-24th of April. As in previous years, I was based at Golgota Bible school, a work associated with the assembly in Talmaciu, near the city of Sibiu in central Romania. This time I was lecturing on the Superiority of Christ in Hebrews. It is always a joy and encouragement to see their desire for and engagement with God’s Word. Please pray for the work there in Talmaciu – they are currently in the middle of their very busy season of camp work in the mountains. God willing, I will make a return visit to the Republic of Moldova in January of next year.

The work at the Hope Centre continues to flourish and it is a privilege to see what the Lord is doing in people’s lives. It has been an added joy to preach once a month or so at the Tuesday night prayer meeting of the young assembly which now meets there. Please pray for growth and encouragement for new believers and for the clarity of the Gospel to come to those who attend things at the Hope Centre but have never been saved. The summer months make a real difference in the open-air work, with the warm weather making people much more willing to stop and listen and engage in conversation. This week we had a very encouraging day in Paisley town centre. Please pray for an Indian man who stopped at the literature table and said ‘I’m new to this, what would you recommend?’ What an opportunity! He went away with a Bible and an Ultimate Questions booklet. While I was finishing my message a teenage girl with her Granny approached and started to listen. At the end I offered her a Gospel of John, and she accepted one. She and her Granny then had a good conversation with Marion Young at the literature table. Please remember her in prayer. We recently had our Summer Mission at Renfrew and it was wonderful to have a good number of children attending each evening. During the week we also had our ‘Summer Afternoon Tea’ for senior citizens and great attention was paid to the Gospel message. Please pray that the Lord would water the good seed that has been sown. Thank you for your prayers for the Kenya Bible Class which takes place online every Thursday when possible. The last few weeks have been much better in terms of a stable internet connection and the interest that they show in delving into God’s Word is so encouraging. I

would value your prayers about a possible visit to meet these believers in Kenya whom I have never met, apart from online. Later this month, from the 27th-31st of August will be the annual week of open-air work in Glasgow, which will be held during the Commonwealth Games. From the 28th-31st of August I am due to be one of the speakers at Truth for Youth. This is a youth and families conference held at the Heatree Centre in Dartmoor. I usually go every second year and always find it so encouraging to see the meeting room filled with young people hungry for the Word of God. Over the last few months, it has been a privilege to see the Lord working in salvation. Please join me in praying for those who have responded, that they may be nourished and encouraged in their new walk. We are so grateful for your partnership in the Gospel and value your continued prayers as we ask for His help to make the best use of limited time: “for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed” (Romans 13:11).

Sao Joaquim da Barra

This coming week we will have our first Bible School in the new premises. There are still some finishing touches to be done, but we are getting there. There are a couple of brethren who are painting the walls, and Elaine and myself and the boys have been doing the touches around plugs, around doors, and along the floor. The conference on the Saturday will be held in a building that is used for meetings and will hold more people and then on Sunday the meetings will be back to the hall. Last month we had a thanksgiving meeting for Sr. Urias and D. Lila’s for their 58th wedding anniversary. It is also 58 years since there was the first breaking of bread. Sr. Urias doesn’t keep well and quite often goes to São Paulo (400 km) to the doctors there, for exams and check-ups. Recently he has been looking a lot better, but these cold nights he has not been out. At the beginning of July I went to Piracicaba for the 100th birthday of one of the first converts here in São Joaquim. It was good to meet all the family that we grew up with. We continue with our discipleship class in my home on Thursday evenings at 4:30pm, where we have from 10 to 16 youngsters aged 12 to 20. Some young people have disappeared, then sometimes they return again, so we covet your prayers for them. We are just near the point of sending the all-purpose music hymn book to the printers, so hopefully should have the printed copies by October or November of this year. Then it will be a job to get them organised and sent out. The last hymn book was printed in 1999. Continue to remember Jackson and his whole family in your prayers. Debora has been losing weight, as she is diabetic and is taking insulin. Jackson has been diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). They did several tests because of his trembling. Lucimara, the mother, is still away from the Lord. She knows the way, but please remember her in your prayers. MARGARET CRAWFORD

Tucupita

We greatly value your prayers for the small assembly here in Tucupita. Several of the believers have been struggling with health issues, which have hindered their attendance at the meetings and their valued help in the efforts to spread the gospel. My brother-inlaw, Jonas (33), has been very faithful in helping us in all the places where we have a Bible class. However, after he was treated for tuberculosis two years ago, he has faced many health problems and is now limited in his ability to help. My mother-in-law, Mrs Surdelina, despite many health problems has a strong desire to bring people to the meetings, especially those from the indigenous tribe. This year, two believers have been added to the assembly. A brother named Jenny Rojas, mentioned on a previous occasion, is doing very well, showing spiritual development and helping in many ways. Also, a young sister named Jessica (17) asked to be baptised recently when her father, who professes to be a Muslim and is currently living in Trinidad, was here on a visit and was willing to attend the meeting. We trust God’s word and the testimony of his daughter will bring him to the knowledge of salvation. Jessica’s mother and two sisters also profess to be saved but haven’t asked to be baptised yet. A beloved indigenous brother named Don Guillermo was called home a few weeks ago. We have held a Bible class and gospel meeting in his home in the community of Janokosebe for several years. None of his large family are saved. Pray that the word spoken at his funeral and during the few days following in the home may still bear fruit. Pray also that his sons may continue to permit us, if it’s the Lord’s will, to keep having the weekly class and meeting in that home.

A Warao Family Bible class

We had prayed for a long time for the way to open up to visit Araguaimujo, the indigenous community where my wife’s family is originally from. We set out in our boat on the 24th of June and, despite many unusual hindrances on the way, we arrived. Fearing much opposition, as it is a community where Catholicism has had a strong grip for years, we were gladly surprised that the people welcomed us. They offered the covered football court for the meeting and were anxious for us to return and spend several days with them, so this is another open door we desire to take advantage of, God willing. This community is on a branch of the Orinoco River where we have never evangelised. As the rainy season has Bible Class in Guacajara begun, the river floods many of these

Meeting in Araguaimujo communities, so we may have to wait two or three months to return. When we got home, we heard about the awful earthquake that had occurred in another region of our country, causing many deaths and destruction. It was mildly felt in Delta Amacuro, where we live. The efforts to visit other communities along the river (which are not badly affected by the floods) have continued. We usually make visits to several homes where a few families gather to gladly hear the Word of God. We deeply feel the need for Divine help to communicate the message of salvation in a very plain and clear way to these people who are unaware of these wonderful truths.

Porto Alegre

We are in wintertime here in the south of Brazil, which means cold weather and a lot of rain. Many of our gospel outreaches are in garages or other premises with a wide-open door and little protection from the elements, therefore numbers naturally drop. Thankfully no floodings have happened this year and all meetings have been able to continue normally. A weekly gospel meeting is being held every Saturday evening at the home of one of the sisters from our assembly. Saved at the end of the pandemic, she has an exercise for her family and friends from the neighbourhood. We had a series of gospel meetings there in April/May when quite a few of these contacts attended. Our Sunday school in Porto Alegre has been blessed with a large number of children, many belonging to the believers. Our prayer is that they might be saved while young. Some of our teenagers have started employment and have become visibly less interested in spiritual matters as they become financially independent, and so are of special concern to parents. The two children’s outreaches are very encouraging as children with no gospel background get to know the gospel and memorise the scriptures. Their development in behaviour and understanding of the gospel gives us much hope. An encouraging series has ended after nine weeks in Granja Getulio Vargas, a countryside area. The first contacts there go back to the late 1950’s when men working the rice fields heard the gospel. Later, many of those contacts were followed up in the neighbouring district of Capivari, where they lived. Some were saved and an assembly was established there in 1966. However, a regular Sunday evening gospel meeting has been maintained in the Granja Getulio Vargas, in a little wooden hall on a field beside the home of one of the believers. The last series of meetings there had been held by my father nine years ago. With his camp bed in the car, I drove him out to it on his 88th birthday and shared the first meeting of the series with him. He knew the area well and people still mentioned his visits when brethren Joel and Gabriel made their door-to-door visitation at this time. Meetings were very well attended and a weekly gospel meeting on Thursdays will be continued to maintain the contacts. Mother, having turned 95 last week, keeps quite well in body and spirit. She had a blood transfusion a couple of weeks ago as she was quite anaemic and weak, so is greatly improved. She loves to sing, and the favourite hymn now is ‘All the way my Saviour leads me’. Some nights ago, she stopped at the lines: ‘Can I doubt His tender mercy, Who through life has been my Guide’, and she said: “you know, that is real!” Talking about passed days, one night she commented: “there was a real work done in those days which was never registered…but it has been registered in heaven!” How true!

‘Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.’ 2 Timothy 3:5

These words jumped off the page at us. It captures Norwegian Christianity like no verse we had seen before. Of the many families that have visited our little gathering, only very few have stayed on beyond one and a half years. The pattern is the same. People think they are good, they expose themselves to God’s Word and the Word being light reveals anything that had been lurking in the shadows. Most have retreated to the shadows of Norwegian “churches” where they can enjoy feel-good motivation speeches, religious experiences, family traditions, or musical entertainment. The attacks are real and at times very oppressive, but the Lord is so superior to anything we are ever up against. We find great comfort in knowing that we have no reason to fear when our eyes are on Christ. The Norwegians think they find safety in the shadows, but they do not realise that danger lurks in the shadows and true peace and freedom is found in accepting the truth, the living Word of God! The Neumann children and their cousin Mary visited us for a few days. They are all lovely children who desire to walk with the Lord and stand for Him. They have had almost no spiritual fellowship outside their parents in the area of Trøndelag where they have grown up. Please pray for them to find good spiritual fellowship. We thank the Lord for them as they are good examples for our children to learn from. The young men’s Bible study is going steadily. One man is very enthusiastic and growing quickly. The other two are harder to read – maybe that’s just how Norwegians are. Last time, James made a long list of questions so the young men would dig into the verses themselves instead of just looking to him for answers. It seemed to work well. Please pray for the Lord to work and for James to know how to meet the young men where they are. Austeja (an advanced Yoga instructor from Lithuania) and her young son Benjamin came to the meeting this past Lord’s Day. She says she is very “open,” but we pray that she will be open to God’s Word. Christer and James both spoke of the gospel as they shared from the Word. She said later to Elizabeth that this fellowship was exactly what she was looking for and needed. Please pray for her salvation. James, Isak and Enok (from the young men’s Bible study) attended the youth camp up in Trøndelag. Two young boys in the group up from Drammen (William and Immanuel) met with James after the last meeting desiring to be saved. One other boy from Trøndelag (Jakob) who connected well with Isak also wants to be a Christian and have a relationship with God. James has been able to continue contact with him after the weekend through SMS. Please pray for the spiritual state of these three young men. Sarah (Finland) and Chris (Denmark) were hiking across Trøndelag, and she injured her knee after a week of walking. Isak and James “just happened to be stopped right in

front of them due to some road works” when her knee gave out. They loaded up their gear and Isak and James gave them a lift to their destination and even took them up to the city nearby to see the sights and a pharmacist about pain relief and a knee support. During their time together they were able to share God’s word with the young couple. Sarah grew up in a Christian home but seems to be running from the Lord. Please pray for their salvation. By the Lord’s amazing grace, the ministry at the hospital continues well and God continues to guide.

We are still praying and looking for a doctor and we seek your valuable prayers in this matter as well. Dr. Rufus Raj continues to be the medical officer. The services for inmates and outmates are also being provided for the dear leper and HIV patients. We now see more dermatology cases and ulcer cases, some which are particularly severe. Bethesda is dealing with these cases quite well with the help of the Lord’s healing hands. Kindly pray for this work. There is a HIV patient called Sreelatha who is aged around 50 years and is in the Anandagiri HIV Ward. We would ask you to pray for her treatment and for her family. All the hostel children are now back from summer vacation. The schools and colleges have reopened, and the children have started their new academic year. There were just a few dropouts and about seven new admissions for this academic year. Praise God! Please pray for the new children that they will settle in well to their new place and continue happily. Currently there are a total of 98 children in the George Muller Home and Dr. Edward Short’s Hostel. The young high school boys and girls who sat their supplementary exams have all passed, however three of them will not be able to move forward due to back logs for spaces, so will have to wait until next year. In the meantime, we are thinking of training some girls in tailoring and basic computer courses. Kindly pray for them. Bethesda Leprosy Hospital Special Upper Primary also started its academic year on the 12th of June. In Classes 1-7 we have 53 pupils, who are the children of leprosy and HIV. The majority of these children are from our home, with just a few from the community. Presently we have five teachers. Please pray for the school ministry and for all these children, that they would come into the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. We continue to praise God for you all. Your love, support and prayers always mean so much to us. The Lord our God is faithful in meeting our every need. May the Lord bless you and keep you. BETHESDA (LEPROSY) HOSPITAL

PAKISTAN

Liverpool

Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am now at the end of my first few days in Uganda. The meetings with the assembly in Musoto have gone well, and it is encouraging to see progress and development among various believers. Pakistan Sohail writes in his inimitable style – I am excited to share that God is changing the lives of Hindus, M’s, and other nonbelievers with His mighty hand. A case for praise: One man, Ka, was in prison facing ten years of punishment for abusing young girls. He was a ‘M’. He tried to commit suicide when police took him to bathe. He attempted to grab electricity wires, but two believers saved his life. They gave him CPR, and his breath returned. When asked why he wanted to die, he said he felt shame for his sins, no one visited him, and no one loved him. The believers told him that the Lord Jesus loves everyone and is calling everyone to Himself. They prayed with him. At first Ka said no one could save him from hell, but they explained that our Saviour saves those who believe and confess Him as Lord. After three days, I met Ka and told him more about the Lord Jesus. God touched his life. He understood that the Lord gave His life for us. He asked many questions, and finally knelt down, repented, and accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. He received a Bible and is now learning how to pray. This is a wonderful work of God. Another prayer case: Nu Bi, 24 years old, from Village 44, came to Christ three years ago at the same time as her father, Kh, and her mother Za. Since then, she has been helping her younger siblings read the Bible while studying a beautician’s course. Some ‘M’ threatened her and told her to stop, but she continued. Later, these men destroyed her shop and beat some of her customers. They threatened to kill them. Afterwards, bearded men came to her home demanding she marry one of them. She and her parents refused, and they were beaten. Days later, when Nu was going to the doctor with her mother, the men tried to kidnap her. When people intervened,

the men accused her of blasphemy, saying she must marry or be killed. They spread false rumours, and as a result, these believers are in hiding; some sleep in fields, and the ‘M’ threaten to burn their homes. The local police are not helping. Another incident happened in one of the new Christian colonies. A 9yearold girl, Ko, went to buy sweets. The shopkeeper took her to a hidden corner, abused her, and cut her throat. CCTV showed her entering but not leaving. People found her dead, with blood on her legs. Her father is Ba, her mother An. Now ‘M’ are trying to protect the man, saying ‘I’ allows the killing of nonbelievers. They even accused her parents of speaking against ‘I’. These acts are evil. Christians and Hindus are treated like worms, killed without care. Please keep all believers in your prayers. We ask God to deliver these families from their towns. Despite these trials, many Hindus and ‘M’s’ are coming to Christ. Recently, two ‘M’ families repented and believed in the Lord Jesus. C. 2006

NORWAY

Skien

In the letter of Paul to the Philippians 3:13 he uses an interesting phrase that can often puzzle us who believe; “Forgetting those things that are behind/past”. After 44 years of service in Norway, and a few other Scandinavian countries, combined with present special family circumstances, we must admit that although we cannot change experiences, decisions, and so much more, our focus must be and always has been to bring glory to the Lord Jesus. It has been our delight in these years to meet so many of the Lord’s people, minister, preach and encourage throughout Norway. This was done via local assembly work, Youth camps, Children’s meetings, Prison Bible studies, Conferences, teaching weekends and study groups as the Lord opened doors for us. As a teenager in Scotland, my spiritual father rubbed this truth into us young folks “always remember” he said, “Paul was separated unto the Gospel, meditate on it, embrace it, preach it, live it and bring glory to the Saviour through it!” Such admonishment one never forgot! Looking back, that guiding principle of ‘Christ first above everything else’ warms our hearts as we see and hear today of a movement of God in so many places in Norway, especially young folks at Universities, Bible Schools, various Prayer Houses, assemblies and churches that we visited over the years until Jennifer’s illness, although that in itself has given many opportunities to speak about the Saviour. I had the privilege recently of sharing our call to service with one of the main Christian Newspapers distributed throughout Norway. C. 1982

ARMENIA, MOLDOVA, RUSSIA

Writing from Abkhazia

Armenia “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works” Hebrews 10:24. There was a wonderful opportunity to participate in the Christian conference in Armenia in March. Local Christians very much appreciate such conferences which provide bible study and fellowship and are so grateful for them. I had opportunity to preach the gospel and to share from God’s Word in a few places. There are some villages in Armenia where Assyrians live in close proximity. The Lord has opened up new opportunities for further Christian work in one of these villages. I have been invited to go back for a short missionary trip with other Russian believers. I was also glad to see brother Artyom again. He used to be a drug taker and criminal, but now he is such a bright Christian who serves the Lord with all his heart! Artyom wants to visit us in Abkhazia some day. Moldova “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Corinthians 6:2. There are still unlimited opportunities for the Gospel work in Moldova. The official authorities are always open and friendly. During the Easter period, in one village, the school authorities prepared the celebration of Easter according to local traditions. The Director of the school was very open, friendly and hospitable. She allowed us to set up a table with different Christian literature for distribution and to talk with children and adults about the Lord Jesus Christ. We are very encouraged that people come to know the Lord Jesus Christ and local churches are growing up. Praise the Lord for such freedom in Moldova to spread the Gospel. Russia “Even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.” Isaiah 46:4. In June my mother turned 90 years old! She is now in a nursing home and for our family it was a wonderful reason to get together to celebrate the anniversary and share the good news with other elderly people in the nursing home. We had nice fellowship and a meal. Then I visited a few small assemblies in our region to preach the Gospel and encourage local Christians. Also, I had a special meeting with the youth in my local church in Russia. It was an informal meeting and at the beginning I told them about my childhood during Soviet time. They asked many questions about my life before I got a bible and was saved and after, about my work at sea and about spiritual ministry in Abkhazia. After the meeting I had some very good individual conversations. The girls and boys were grateful for these sincere conversations. SERGEY & IRINA SIDORENKO

CYPRUS

Limassol

“And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof; for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; and hast made us unto our God kings and priests:and we shall reign on the earth.” Rev 5:9-10 With July and August being summer holidays, it’s a great opportunity for our international staff base to spend time visiting family and getting a well-earned break. Our team come from many different places, and whilst the majority are from the UK, US, Canada or Cyprus, we have many other staff from Europe and the Middle East – reflecting our diverse student population.

Logos School Team

With approximately 75% of our students having no other links with ‘evangelical’ Christianity, serving the Lord at Logos is a unique opportunity to share our daily testimony with our students. Sharing the “light” and “salt” of God’s Word in a school is a special privilege; teaching curriculum and Scriptures to our student base of 300 on a daily basis. Please keep praying for our students past and present, that the Sprit of God will bring forth fruit unto salvation – and onward service for His glory in their lives. We are still looking for new members of our teaching team, specifically Chemistry, PE & Sports Science, Business and Greek at Secondary level and would covet your prayers. LOGOS SCHOOL
