In 1900, brothers André Michelin and Édouard Michelin founded the Michelin tire company in France. At the time, there were fewer than 3,000 cars on French roads, so they came up with a clever marketing idea: create a free travel guide to encourage people to drive more. More driving meant more tire wear—and more tire sales. The original Michelin Guide included maps, repair tips, gas stations, hotels, and restaurant recommendations for travelers. As the guide grew in popularity, Michelin began sending anonymous inspectors to evaluate restaurants. In 1926, the first Michelin Star was awarded, and by 1931 the now-famous one-, two-, and three-star system was introduced. Today, earning a Michelin Star is considered one of the highest honors in the culinary world—all thanks to a tire company looking for a way to sell more tires over a century ago.

PREVENTION DAY
July 6th is National Injury Prevention Day! This day is all about raising awareness for preventable injuries and spreading the importance of working, playing, and living safely. This month, we will be looking at some tips for keeping ourselves and each other safe! What is National Injury Prevention Day? National Injury Prevention Day was created to reduce preventable and predictable injuries in Canada. This day is sponsored by Parachute – A Canadian charity dedicated to injury prevention. The event aims to reduce the number of preventable injuries, which are currently the number one cause of death in Canadians aged 1 to 44. National Injury Prevention Day spreads information about safe practices and how to implement them in the hopes of giving Canadians safer, healthier, and longer lives! More information on National Injury Prevention Day can be found at parachute.ca. Injury Prevention Most injuries are caused by accidents, such as slips, falls, car crashes, chemical misuse, and overexertion. While they are called “accidents”, they are often caused by distractions, fatigue, and a lack of safety measures. Take these factors into account before you start on a task. While not every injury is preventable, many are. Taking precautions to prevent injuries could save your life or someone else’s! Keep safety in mind by promoting safe practices to those around you. When discussing injury prevention, we must also discuss mental health. This is because preventable injuries also include overdose and suicide. If you are worried about yourself, a friend, a family member, or a colleague, encourage them to talk to a healthcare professional and support them as best you can. If you are not sure where to start, take advantage of Lordco’s Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP). This program is available to all employees and can help with mental health, addiction, family and relationships, and overall well-being. Injury Prevention Tips This National Injury Prevention Day, spread awareness about preventable injuries and how to avoid them. Talk to your employees, colleagues, and family members about potential dangers at home and in the workplace and take steps to reduce the risk of injury. Make it a habit to check in with those around you and try your best to support those you care about. Making risk evaluations and checkins part of your routine could help you save a life! Plus, if you want to go above and beyond, wear green on July 6th to be an advocate for injury prevention!
