BULLETIN BOARD Thursday, May 23 • OBERLIN: Folk singers William Pint and Felicia Dale will deliver dynamic vocals and instrumental fireworks of contemporary maritime songs and old sea shanties at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 at Kendal at Oberlin’s Heiser Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public. • OBERLIN: An organ concert is memory of Ronald Gibson of the Oberlin Class of 2007 will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 at Peace Community Church, 44 East Lorain St. Angela Kraft, a 1980 Oberlin College and Conservatory graduate, international performer, teacher, and composer will play the Bozeman organ dedicated to David and Sigrid Boe. Ron Gibson purchased the instrument and rebuilt it; it was acquired by Oberlin College and became part of the Conservatory’s collection. A reception will be held after the concert. All are welcome. 16 SENIORS SIGN WITH MILITARY

Welcome to the family. That's how Army National Guard First Sgt. Dan Makruski greeted the 16 Amherst Steele High School seniors who have signed to serve in the U.S. military after graduation. Makruski knows about sacrifice, duty, and commitment — he has served several long tours of duty in the Middle East. Serving your country is a noble calling but will not always be easy, he told seniors. When it's tough, "Get up. Keep going. I know you can do this," he said. Most years see four or five Amherst graduates enlist in the armed forces. This year's group of 16 volunteers is extraordinary, said principal Joe Tellier. Hundreds of classmates and local dignitaries filled the Steele gym to for the school's first-ever Military Signing Day, which Tellier said will become an annual tradition. Members of VFW Post 1662 and American Legion Post 118 escorted the honorees into the gym to the sounds of snare drums and applause, passing over an enormous American flag hanging from the rafters.
