HOLIDAY CLOSURES
To celebrate the Labor Day holiday, park buildings and visitor centers will be closed Monday, Sept. 2. However, park trails will be open 8:00 a.m.-sunset. Amherst HealthPlex and Splash Zone will also be open for regular hours.
The Community Foundation of Lorain County is yet again hosting Connect to a Cause. This event is a 12-hour fundraising competition that enables community members to donate directly to the local charities of their choice. Organizations like the Lorain County Metro Parks benefit not just from generous donations but also receive a portion of funding match from the Community Foundation. In 2023, the Lorain County Metro Parks received over $5,000 through this campaign.
Connect to a Cause 2024 takes place on Thursday, September 19. Funds raised will benefit Miller Nature Preserve's Butterfly House. Donations will be accepted via credit/debit card at: peoplewhocare.org/c2c2023. To donate by check, please endorse to Community Foundation. Checks must be postmarked or delivered to the Foundation office (9080 Leavitt Road, Elyria, OH 44035) by 8:00 p.m. on September 19.

Everyone’s fall favorite, Halloween Fair, is back! This family-friendly spooktacular event includes the haunted walking trail, with the pumpkin lagoon, train rides, food booths, games, and more! The non-spooky family-friendly version of the trail will be open from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Kids of all ages can enjoy Halloween stations before the spookier attractions and costumed actors begin. The trail will turn spooky at 7:00 p.m., with plenty of spooks and startles to entertain everyone in the family. The trail will be closed from 6:30-7:00 p.m.

The Carlisle Visitor Center, Short Loop trail, and Children’s Nature Discovery trail close at 12:00 p.m. on event days. Parking and admission open at 4:00 p.m. but vendors, activities, and the trail do not open until 4:30 p.m. Parking will only be available at the Carlisle Visitor Center; carpooling is encouraged. Entry gates close at 9:00 p.m., and the ticket booth closes at 9:15 p.m. As always, these outdoor programs are weather dependent. Enjoy Halloween Fair with lights and sounds limited to reduce stimulus. Trams will be available on the haunted trail on a first-come, first-served basis for mobility needs. All-Abilities Night packs in all of the same event fun, including the family-friendly haunted trail, Little Green Choo rides, food trucks, and games.
The number of tickets sold will be reduced to allow for shorter, more accommodating wait times. Both the train and tram can accommodate wheelchairs. Service animals are welcome. All-Abilities Night is just one more way the Lorain County Metro Parks strives to make our parks and events accessible to and inclusive of ALL Lorain County residents.

BECOME A FRIENDS VOLUNTEER!
The Friends of Metro Parks in Lorain County, Inc. is the volunteer branch of the Lorain County Metro Parks. Friends members work closely with park staff to assist with programs, plant care, special events, gift shops, and more. To become a member, you must first attend an orientation and have a background check completed. Orientations are held bimonthly.

The Friends organization accepts volunteers 16 years and older. Those under 18 require an accompanying volunteer adult. A minimal membership fee is required to cover organizational costs, including accidental insurance coverage. This annual fee is waived for members with more than 40 volunteer hours. Background checks are completed for free, and membership fees are due at orientation (cash or check only).
DONATE TO THE LORAIN COUNTY METRO PARKS
Through the generous contributions of individuals, groups, corporations, and foundations, Lorain County Metro Parks can provide various services and facilities beyond the limitations of its tax levy. Donations can be made to the park district for general use or earmarked for a specific park, program, or necessary items. Donations are acknowledged publicly in the park’s bi-monthly newsletter, the Arrowhead, in the Honor Roll (see page 3).
Inscribe the name of a loved one, your business, or organization on the beautiful paved walkway inside Miller Nature Preserve’s Butterfly House through the brand new Paver Donation Program. Or, consider a financial contribution to the ‘Adopt-a-Raptor’ program to benefit the resident birds at the Raptor Center. Limited opportunities also exist for benches, trees, and Lakeview Rose Garden contributions.
