The mystery of poli cs and the Bible This month’s general elec on is to some a ma er of great interest and emo onal commitment, to others the working of poli cians is all a big mystery. Christadelphians have no party-poli cal allegiance but, like many others, we have seen the chaos and confusion of Bri sh poli cs in recent mes and have had cause to wonder. Given that the Bri sh parliament, the “mother of parliaments”, was once regarded as the model for the world, we have to ask the ques on “is this really the best they can do?”. Perhaps it is. But that doesn’t mean that there can be nothing be er. In our talk planned for 8th December, our speaker Paul Hamne will explore this point from the perspec ve of the Bible. It will answer ques ons such as “what is poli cs?”, “why can nobody seem to agree?”, “why the confusion?”, “who, really, is in control?”. He will show us that the Bible does have answers. He will show us that a belief in God is a belief in One who, to quote the Old Testament prophet Daniel, “rules in the kingdom of men”. He will show us that things need not be as hopeless as they seem, but it isn’t about who we vote for at the ballot box. Rather, on a personal level, it’s about how we react to the Divine message. Sunday 8th December at Earlswood Village Hall: Mr Paul Hamne Christadelphians (or brethren in Christ) are a body of people associated together by a belief in the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ. They do not profess to have received any new revela on but hold that the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are able to make a person “wise unto salva on”. Believing in the Divine authorship of the Bible, they reject any interpreta on which fails to harmonise all the tes monies of the Holy Scriptures. They believe in the personal, visible return of Christ to the earth in the near future to establish his power and reign as King throughout the world.
