Campaigners to unveil railway revival and Pennine road tunnel proposals at Stocksbridge meeting Trans-Pennine Connect are holding a meeting in Stocksbridge next week to share their proposals to transform transport links across the Pennines. Hosted at the Venue in Stocksbridge on the 2nd of November, the event will see plans shared for a new road tunnel beneath the Peak District, a reopening of the Woodhead Railway line and the restoration of the National Park currently used for roads. Trans-Pennine Connect wants to help connect Manchester and Sheffield which are the two largest UK cities without a dual carriageway link between them. The plan is to put a better road below ground whilst giving the moorland back to nature. According to Trans-Pennine connect currently Manchester and Sheffield move 2.9 vehicles a day per 1000 people whilst neighbouring city pairs like Leeds & Sheffield, Manchester & Liverpool and Manchester & Leeds manage 24 to 30.

When the Government put together a study looking at the Manchester to Sheffield tunnel it put the cost between £7.8bn and £11.6bn and the scheme was judged too expensive to build. Trans-Pennine connect believe

Planning sought for 51 new homes

it can be completed for under £2bn using a Scandinavian method. The Scandinavian method of drill and blast requires less equipment than the method proposed by the Government’s study and makes better use of the natural strength of the rock. Based on the Government’s study the Pennine bedrock is millstone grit which is well suited to tunnelling. It is also according to Trans-Pennine connect comparable to the geology of Norwegian projects where drill and blast is used. Trans-Pennine Connect says drill and blast removes 40 % less rock than the method proposed by the Government in their previous study as it cuts the shape of the road rather than the general circle older machines produce. The event will include a presentation running from six pm to seven pm. As well as a drop-in session and Q&A lasting between seven pm and nine pm. You can register to attend the event at https://luma.com/m0r7f6up and find out more about Trans-Pennine Connect here: https://transpennineconnect.com/ A report from ‘We Are Barnsley’ states that planning permission is being sought for 51 new houses in Penistone. If the plans are approved the work would take place south of White Hart Road near Scout Dike reservoir The news follows the announcement earlier this month of a plan for 141 new homes in the Cubley area of Penistone just off Mortimer Road.

MP pushes for healthcare at Stocksbridge’s 519 hub Call 0114 283 1100

www.looklocal.org.uk

Plans to bring diagnostic services and routine healthcare to Stocksbridge’s new 519 Community Hub are being explored in a bid to spare residents unnecessary journeys to hospital appointments in central Sheffield. Penistone and Stocksbridge MP Marie Tidball is pushing for the building, currently under construction on Manchester Road, to play a role in bringing more care onto the high street.

Her Health on the High Street proposals aim to improve access to services for people in Stocksbridge and surrounding communities, complementing existing GP surgeries and community organisations. The proposals are still being developed, with potential services and funding arrangements yet to be agreed.

“I want to see more of that care brought closer to home, right here in Stocksbridge.” The MP welcomed community regeneration expert Lord Andrew Mawson to the town on Friday 16 October, joining members of the Stocksbridge Towns Fund Board to show him progress on the building. The visit was followed by a roundtable discussion with local health and community partners, including representatives from Valley Medical Centre. Alongside diagnostic services and routine care, discussions explored support for older people, women’s health and services for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Ms Tidball said residents had repeatedly raised the difficulties of travelling for healthcare.

Partners also considered how healthcare could connect with community activities, education and employment support to help tackle social isolation and improve wellbeing.

“I’ve heard from constituents time and time again about the challenges of accessing healthcare locally, particularly when people have to travel into central Sheffield for appointments and routine services,” she said.

Lord Mawson, who officially opened Fox Valley, along with Joanna Lumley back in 2016 founded the Bromley-by-Bow Centre in East London, which brought healthcare, community services, education and enterprise together.

0114 245 4404 ericstead.co.uk

Ms Tidball said his experience could help shape the approach in Stocksbridge. “Lord Mawson has shown what can be achieved when communities, healthcare providers, businesses and public services work together with a shared vision,” she said. “There’s real potential for us to build on that experience here in Stocksbridge.” The 519 hub is a flagship project of the £24.1 million Stocksbridge Towns Fund programme, whose board Ms Tidball cochairs with Yuri Matischen. Being built on the former Stocksbridge Library site, it is expected to open in spring 2027, providing a modern library, education and training facilities, business space, a café and community facilities. Ms Tidball will now work with healthcare providers, Sheffield City Council and other partners to establish which additional health services could be delivered locally and how they could be funded. “I’ll continue working closely with the Towns Fund Board, local healthcare providers and our community partners to turn these ideas into practical, lasting improvements for our town,” she said.

Charity auction raises 9km of new water £5,270 for rescue services mains as work begins A £ 3.6 million investment is replacing ageing water mains in Wharncliffe Side and Brightholmlee to reduce bursts and interruptions to residents’ supplies. Yorkshire Water’s contractor M Group is carrying out the work, replacing approximately nine kilometres of clean water mains to improve the reliability of the local network. The area has been prioritised following repeated failures in some locations. Jason Farrar, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “We’re investing £3.6m to replace around 9km of ageing water mains in Wharncliffe Side and Brightholmlee. The area has been identified as a high priority for investment and upgrade because of repeated failures in some locations.”

A charity auction held by Bradfield Brewery at the Nags Head has raised £5,270 for two emergency rescue charities. The proceeds from last month’s event were shared equally between Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team, with each receiving £2,635.

describing the contribution as a “fantastic donation”. The team is a volunteer organisation providing help 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It relies on support from individuals and businesses such as Bradfield Brewery to continue helping the community in times of need.

Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team thanked the brewery for its generosity and support,

As well as thanking the brewery, team members encouraged walkers looking for a postwalk refreshment to try one of its beers.

Dangerous e-bike riding on pavements and through local communities must be tackled, Penistone and Stocksbridge MP Marie Tidball has told Parliament.

According to the MP, South Yorkshire Police have confirmed that neighbourhood officers are actively patrolling Ecclesfield Common alongside the force’s Motorcycle and Rural Crime Team to tackle bikes being ridden antisocially.

He added: “This significant upgrade of over 9km of clean water mains will help reduce the likelihood of bursts and interruptions to customers’ water supplies in the future and we’re working closely with the highways team to keep disruption to residents and road users to a minimum.” The scheme forms part of Yorkshire Water’s largest-ever investment programme, worth £8.3 billion, to improve infrastructure and services across the region. This includes £406 million to replace more than 1,000 kilometres of clean water mains between 2025 and 2030.

MP calls for action over dangerous e-bike riding The Labour MP highlighted an Ecclesfield resident’s frightening near miss as she called for stronger neighbourhood policing to address unsafe and antisocial riding. Speaking during a Westminster Hall debate on community policing on 21 October, Dr Tidball described how her constituent Jane encountered several electric bikes speeding along a pavement as she crossed the road. Jane told the MP the bikes were travelling as fast as cars and appeared to have had their speed limiters disabled. She feared she could have been seriously injured or killed had she stepped onto the pavement a second earlier. Dr Tidball urged the Government to deliver its promised expansion of neighbourhood policing before the end of Parliament to help tackle such incidents. UK Parliament She said concerns about dangerous riding were being raised across the constituency, including in Chapeltown, Ecclesfield, Dodworth and Grenoside, particularly Grenoside Woods. “Securing safer communities is one of my top priorities,” she said. “Constituents, like Jane, tell me all the time about the dangerous and unsafe use of e-bikes.”

Dr Tidball previously raised the issue in the Commons in October 2024 and has also written to the Department for Transport and South Yorkshire Police. Government guidance distinguishes ordinary electrically assisted pedal cycles from more powerful machines. To qualify as an electrically assisted pedal cycle, a bike must have working pedals, a motor with a continuous rated power of no more than 250 watts, and motor assistance that cuts out above 15.5mph. Bikes meeting those requirements do not need registration, tax or insurance, but cannot be ridden on pavements. Machines outside those limits are classed as motorcycles or mopeds and require registration, tax, insurance and an appropriate driving licence for road use. GOV.UK Dr Tidball is encouraging residents affected by dangerous riding to contact her. “If you are impacted by this issue, I want to hear from you,” she said. Residents can email marie.tidball.casework@ parliament.uk.

Poppy event to honour local wartime sacrifice An afternoon of remembrance will bring communities together at Millhouse Institute on Saturday 7 November to honour local people who served and suffered in military conflicts.

The event, beginning at 2pm, will commemorate the fallen and survivors from Millhouse Green, Hazlehead, Crowedge, Dunford Bridge, Carlecotes and Townhead. Organised by the Institute’s trustees and committee members, it follows research involving local families, photographs and historical records to uncover the stories of those whose lives were affected by war. Organisers say Millhouse Green has never had an opportunity of this kind to recognise the contribution and sacrifice of local men and women. Hundreds of knitted and crocheted poppies have been created by volunteers brought together by Institute trustee Helen Orrell. Men In Sheds

Calmer weather ahead after storm-hit weekend Fallen trees blocked paths in North Sheffield parks as strong winds swept across the city last weekend. Sheffield City Council’s Streets Ahead team received 65 urgent enquiries and a further 34 Category 1 enquiries during the storms, with most reports arriving on Sunday 25 October.

have also made wooden displays which will be placed throughout the village.

Trees came down in Hillsborough Park and Concord Park, with contractors instructed to deal with the damage. Urgent enquiries require a response within an hour, while Category 1 reports have a one-day response target.

A video made by Ben Harrap will explore lives lost and the lasting effects of conflict. Organisers hope to make it available to download, providing a permanent record for the community.

A calmer outlook is forecast for the coming weekend, 31 October and 1 November. The Met Office predicts sunny intervals on Saturday and cloudier skies on Sunday, with highs around 11°C, lighter winds and little chance of rain.

Penistone Archives and History Group has contributed information from its records, while Penistone Royal British Legion and Penistone Round Table have sponsored the event. The committee has thanked everyone who has contributed their time, skills and support. The afternoon will open with a minute’s silence, followed by an opportunity to view the poppies and other displays, meet friends and neighbours, and enjoy tea and homemade cake.

Similar conditions are expected into early next week, with Monday looking mainly cloudy and temperatures remaining around 11°C.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

WHAT WOULD MAKE LIFE BETTER IN OUR PART OF SHEFFIELD? Better jobs? More for young people to do after school? Thriving local shops and businesses? Services that actually join up? If you live or work in Stocksbridge, Deepcar, High Green, Chapeltown or the villages around them, we want to hear what you think, and your ideas could help shape the area for the next ten years. What’s this all about? Sheffield City Council through the Opportunity Sheffield service has asked local charity STEP to pull together a ten-year plan for jobs, skills, local business and wellbeing in our part of Sheffield. But this isn’t something the Council, STEP or anyone else can write from behind a desk. It needs to come from the people who know the area best: you. We’ve spent the last few months talking to local groups and digging into the facts and figures. There’s a lot to be proud of long-standing businesses, brilliant community groups, much-loved local services and people who really care about where they live. But there are some big questions too. Are young people getting a fair shot once they leave school? Is there enough help for people whose health or caring duties make work hard? Could local businesses get more support to grow? And are local services working together as well as they should? You know this place better

Numbers can’t tell us what it’s like to look for work when the bus doesn’t go where you need it, to find a course nearby, or to hold down a job while caring for someone you love. They can’t tell us what’s already working and worth hanging on to. Only you can. You don’t need to be an expert, and you don’t need to have done anything like this before. In fact, we’d especially love to hear from people who don’t normally get involved. Just tell us what’s good, what’s not, and what you’d change. Who’s involved? We’re teaming up with people who already know their patch. High Green Development Trust is leading the way in High Green, and Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre who are helping us reach local families and those who use the centres. We’re also working with Opportunity Sheffield, local town and parish councils, other representatives, schools and businesses. The goal is a plan everyone can get behind, not one that gathers dust on a shelf.

Chapeltown: Newton Hall Memorial Hall, Cowley Lane, Wednesday 25 November, 3pm to 6pm Can’t make it? No problem. Have your say online at https:// have-your-say.tiiny.site/ or via the QR code. There’s a quick two-minute version, or a longer one if you’ve got more to say. Paper copies are available at local venues, and you can see what we’ve found so far at https://sv-evidence.tiiny.site/#survey. Win a Christmas treat! Fill in a questionnaire by Friday 18 December and you could win one of five £25 shopping vouchers. Why it matters A plan built on real local experience gives our communities a louder voice when we’re making the case for investment, better services and new opportunities. We can’t promise every idea will become a project, but we will make sure what you tell us shapes the priorities, and we’ll let you know what we heard.

WREATH-MAKING EVENING CELEBRATES 20 YEARS

A festive tradition in Bolsterstone will celebrate its 20th anniversary this December, with an evening of wreath making, music and seasonal refreshments.

Bolsterstone Community Group’s Traditional Wreath Making Evening takes place at St Mary’s Church in Bolsterstone on Thursday 10th December at 7pm. Tickets cost £25, including fresh greenery, baubles and all the materials needed to create a Christmas wreath to take home. Complimentary mince pies and mulled wine will also be served, while bell ringing, singing and Christmas carols will add to the celebrations. The annual event began in 2006 after friends and neighbours admired wreaths made by members of the group and suggested they share their skills. From a handful of participants at the first session, the evenings have grown in popularity,

with organisers reporting a long waiting list each year. All proceeds are used to maintain and improve Bolsterstone village, continuing the community purpose behind the event. Joining this year’s participants will be the Rev Louise McInnes, the new resident vicar serving Bolsterstone, the Christian Centre and St John’s Deepcar. Organisers are looking forward to welcoming her for her first Christmas in the village and say she brings previous experience of wreath-making events at other churches. The group hopes people will join the anniversary celebrations and enjoy creating their own fresh, pine-scented wreath for Christmas. To book, contact Anthea Peers at anthea. peers@btinternet.com or call 07879 416295.

CITY OF CULTURE 2029

“Only one Winner - Sheffield of course.” - Jo Butler As long as we don’t have to play them at football in a playoff decider then it should be Sheffield all the way ... - Craig Allen “Bloody hell, born in Sheffield but slim pickings” - Sharon Gould

TOP LEFT: Mischief night. Illustration by Garry Walton MAIN IMAGE: A Mischief Night once common prank in the Adirondacks, USA by Steve Moxon ‘Kay Kay (Kakin) Neet’ – see this space a year ago – November 1, was the start of the ‘Celtic’ ‘dark year’, the eve of which, Hallowe’en, was/is more familiarly dubbed Mischief Neet here in Yorkshire, Ireland … and Scotland, where the practice was recorded in 1736. Actually that might betray a much older origin, for something formerly too rustic to interest those few then able to write about it. Ditto why the tag Mischief Night seems not to emerge until 1790, but more informally and likely anciently it used to be called ‘Miggy’ or ‘Mickey Neet’, that looks ultimately to be a mangling into English of Gaelic mi-cheart, ‘not right, not proper’, or mi’ghiùlan, ‘improper conduct’ (many similar words). In some areas it shifted to November 4, to (the eve of) the other end of the former five-day major festival – probably to excuse pinching wood for the bonfire – or just slipped a day to October 30. What was it in aid of? A clue comes from local historian Joseph Kenworthy, in 1916 pointing out that in Derbyshire the same shenanigans instead was at the opposite end of the calendar, on ‘May E’en’ (April 30). That’s the day prior to the beginning of the ‘Celtic’ ‘light year’. Pranking on this night is attested from 1583. The twinned days were considered liminal times: when the veil separating this from the ‘otherworld’ was at its thinnest, and the spirits were at large. It appears being miscreants was/ is to act out as their surrogates: to expend their wrath by causing bother, though short of injury – harmlessly dispelling it by ‘sympathetic magic’. These goings on originally, as is known from various places, were on both April 30 and October 31. Presumably, if and when attention focused on one and off the other, after a while the custom settled on the one date. It would avoid confusion, and anyway even one day a year was one too many for a lot of people, judging by Kenworthy’s outline in 1916 of what locals hereabouts got up to generations earlier. This is a gem worthy of quoting at length: ‘Mischief Neet’ was more than duly observed by farm hands and pit-lads. The bellows were taken out of Midhope Smithy on one such lawless night,

and placed amidst the branches of a lofty tree in Hill House Lane, and at another time John and David Bramall were astounded to find on arrival at the smithy that a new plough, which had been brought to them to be ‘ironed’ a few days before, had been taken out of the shop and stuck in the chimney, and as the two brothers did their best to get it out again and down the roof, in safely, they were heard to say, “It’ll be them young uns aat o’Yewden. My! aren’t they strong?” ... field-gates have been taken out of their fastenings and stacked here and there in the middle of the highway, and plough-gear has been removed and hidden away, sometimes necessitating the making of new parts, as from six to twelve months have often elapsed ‘ere the missing articles were seen again. The flag at the house door would often be removed and the site ploughed up, to the surprise of the farmer when, in the morning, he turned his lantern round to ascertain why he should stumble. ... Old John Lang [of] the Clough above Hoyle House … was aroused towards midnight by a tap at the bed-room window. On opening the casement which allowed little more than his head to project into the night-air, a young fellow who had filled a ‘keck-lock squirt’ with blood fresh from a recent ‘pig-killing’, discharged the contents in Old John’s face, just as a confederate raised a gun and fired in the same direction. On Lang withdrawing his head, all covered with gore, his wife who had lighted a candle, seeing his condition, was heard to exclaim in terrified accents ‘Oh John, have they murthered ye?’, and rushing downstairs with many imprecations found the door barred from the outside, and her attempts to open it greeted with derisive laughter. Crickey. That was a bit beyond rappin’ t’knocker or clatterin’ t’dustbin ‘n scarperin’. Merely for this, me and my brother once got chased by a cricket bat wielding luminescent white shirt – all we could see of the irate fellah. Spooky, yet hardly in the spirit of things! Great excess is in the past, and pranksters are thin on the ground, in pockets, eclipsed if at all by imported lame ‘trick or treating’.

Funeral donations honour Les’s wishes A donation of £245 collected at the funeral of former Sheffield City Councillor and Stocksbridge rugby player Les Moss has been presented to the Barnsley Parkinson’s Society. Leslie George Moss, known as Les, was a Barnsley “boy” who moved to Stocksbridge as a youngster and made the town his home. Having lived with Parkinson’s for many years, Les had made clear

his wish for donations to the local Barnsley branch in place of flowers at his funeral. His stepdaughter, Charlotte Dalton, presented the donation to branch chairman Terry Kendal, fulfilling Les’s wishes. Charlotte and family thanked everyone who had generously donated in his memory.

Art and remembrance unite for Poppies With Purpose Artists, musicians and residents are joining forces in Penistone for a charity exhibition supporting the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and the restoration of a historic church tower. Poppies With Purpose will run at St John the Baptist Church from 2 to 14 November, bringing together art, crafts, music and remembrance as a Penistone Arts Week fringe event. Funds raised will support the Poppy Appeal and work to restore the church’s 16th-century tower and clock. Artists have been invited to interpret what remembrance means to them, with an open brief encouraging personal responses beyond traditional poppy pictures. Their work will be displayed throughout the church alongside handmade crafts. Participating creatives will donate at least 30 per cent of their sales proceeds, with many choosing to contribute more. Residents are also making knitted and crafted poppies to decorate the church, while town centre shops and businesses will compete for the best-dressed shopfront. The displays will feature red poppies for remembrance, white poppies representing peace and purple poppies remembering animals that have served and suffered alongside people.

Sepsis survivor shares story to help save lives A Sheffield mum who lost part of her right leg, her toes and some of her fingers after developing sepsis is sharing her story to raise awareness of the condition.

Since leaving hospital, she has worked to rebuild her strength through physiotherapy and training. In September 2025, she took part in the Sheffield 10k.

Alex Plank, 41, became critically ill in May 2023. Her family were told she was unlikely to survive.

Her experience was featured on BBC Look North, where Dr Foster spoke about the crucial role her husband played in getting help.

Now, after months of treatment and rehabilitation, she is highlighting the importance of recognising when someone is seriously unwell and raising the alarm early. Alex had been at home looking after her youngest daughter when she began experiencing what initially seemed like a “nasty cold”. When her husband returned, he found her struggling to breathe, with blue lips and grey fingers. He called NHS 111 and she was rushed to A&E. Within minutes of arriving, Alex collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. Her next memory is waking up two weeks later in critical care. She spent six weeks there, followed by another six weeks on an infectious diseases ward. Alex had to have her right leg amputated below the knee and lost the toes on her left foot and some of her fingers.

“For Alex, thankfully, her wonderful husband noticed that she really looked unwell, rapidly called the alarm, got an ambulance, and brought her to A&E,” Dr Foster said. “If he had delayed those actions even for another hour, she may not be here today.” Sepsis develops when the body has an extreme reaction to an infection. Dr Foster stressed the importance of recognising less obvious signs that someone could be seriously ill. “It's so important that we remain vigilant,” she said. “The subtle things being: is somebody falling? Are they confused? Are they breathing fast? Are they not themselves? Are they profoundly weak?”

The exhibition opens on Monday 2 November with a special Veterans Day event bringing together veterans, artists, invited guests, local representatives and members of the community. A musical highlight will follow on Friday 6 November, when Proms for Poppies takes place at the church from 6pm to 10pm. Doors will open at 5pm, giving visitors time to browse and shop before the performances. Organised by Chris McShane, the concert will feature a range of performers and a reading by local author and event co-organiser Chrissie Yates from her book, The Matriarch. Tickets cost £12.50, with all proceeds supporting the event’s causes. Wine, tea, coffee and cake will be available, alongside a raffle. Organiser Joanne Molloy, who discovered art after becoming chronically ill, said the project had grown through the support of the community. “Art can make us stop, think, feel, and connect — but it can also raise money, raise awareness, and bring a community together,” she said. “We wanted to create something that remembers and honours those who have served, supports the Poppy Appeal, helps our beautiful historic church, and gives local artists and performers an opportunity to use what they do to make a difference.” Organisers hope to welcome families, veterans, local residents and art enthusiasts, including people who would not normally visit an exhibition. STOCKSBRIDGE LEFT WAITING AFTER GROV PARK ABANDONMENT Stocksbridge Rugby face a wait for a league ruling after their first match at the newly named Grov Park Arena was abandoned early in the second half. The Globe Holidays-sponsored side led Wath Upon Dearne thirds 15–0 and were chasing a third successive bonus-point victory when injuries left the visitors with only nine fit players. The referee halted proceedings around 52 minutes into the contest, leaving the league to decide whether the result will stand or the fixture must be replayed. Before kick-off, players and supporters impeccably observed a minute’s silence in memory of former club secretary and stalwart Mick ‘Grov’ Gribbins, whose nickname now forms part of the ground’s name.

With several regulars injured or unavailable, head coach Aaron Kaye called on the depth of his squad. Lewis Bowman and Mikey Hartley made their first appearances of the season in the front row, while Watts and Dodsworth formed a mobile second-row partnership. Jack Spencer returned at fly-half, Cole Staley-Howson started on the wing and Australian newcomer Owen Thompson was named among the replacements. Despite playing uphill and into a blustery wind, Stocksbridge took control from the opening whistle. Their forwards dominated possession and territory, with Bowman, Martin and Dodsworth repeatedly testing the visiting defence.

Bowman marked his return with the opening try from close range before Dodsworth seized a loose ball and won the race to the line. Centre George Leary added a third with an elusive run following more strong work from the home pack. Difficult kicking conditions meant all three tries went unconverted. Wath enjoyed a spell of possession towards the interval, but Stocksbridge’s defence held firm to preserve a 15–0 half-time lead. The visitors began the second half with 14 players and uncontested scrums. Further injuries then reduced their numbers to nine, bringing the afternoon to a premature conclusion. Thompson received the Victoria Motors manof-the-match award for a promising debut,

with Bowman, Martin and Dodsworth also making strong contributions. Captain Andy Beal said: “It’s a shame about the finish, but we did our job on the park.” He added: “The league will decide what happens but we will focus on our game and preparing for the next challenge.” Other results leave Stocksbridge in the top four of Counties Four Yorkshire C, with their games-in-hand position dependent on the league’s decision. They travel to league newcomers Barton & District next, with kick-off at 2.15pm. Their next home fixture is against Hallamshire at Grov Park Arena on Saturday 7 November, also kicking off at 2.15pm.

Their time of 24-02 was the fastest recorded by any of the Quest ODJ competitors across the individual and pairs competitions. The duo demonstrated remarkable consistency throughout the twelve running sections, with their final six runs completed just four seconds slower than their opening six. They also excelled in the strength exercises, particularly the carries, recording an impressive 1-00 for the front carry and 54 seconds for the overhead carry. Natalie Thorpe showed her versatility by competing for a second time in the mixed pairs event alongside Mike McKenzie, with the pair finishing 12th out of 21 teams in 2608 and securing second place in the 50–54 category.

STEELS WINLESS IN EIGHT LEAGUE GAMES STEELS THRASHED AS POOR FORM CONTINUES...

STOCKSBRIDGE PARK STEELS 1-4 DUNSTON UTS As Storm Boelo hit non-league pitches across the country, Stocksbridge felt the full force of Storm Dunston.

The defeat leaves Steels second from bottom as they suffered an eighth consecutive loss in the league.

Jason Blunt’s side went into the match after seven straight league defeats.

Meanwhile, its an opposite tale for Dunston UTS who leave Bracken Moor in second place after five wins from their last five.

Whilst, Dunston were looking to continue a winning run that has seen them high up the table. The match initially went against the form table when newly appointed captain Tommy Marshall gave Stocksbridge the lead from close range. Marshall’s early goal was soon cancelled out in the eighth minutes as JJ O’Donnell equalised for Dunston. 12 minutes later, O’Donnell scored again to put the away side ahead by two goals to one. The scoreline would remain that way as the teams headed in for the half-time break. Steels stayed within a goal of Dunston until the 67th minute when David Robinson pounced on a shot spilled by Lloyd Allinson in the Steels’ goal.

Only Bradford Park Avenue, who are currently unbeaten in the league have made a better start than Dunston. Stocksbridge Park Steels manager Jason Blunt spoke after the game: “We’ve lost 4-1 and it’s never nice losing with a scoreline like that. You can make as many excuses as you want and we’ve got beat by an extremely good side. “I thought going into half-time 2-1, with the wind and the conditions and changing formation we may get back in it and we should’ve really we missed a good chance to make it 2-2. Then, the other goals we’ve given them with the mistakes.” Next game: Guisborough Town (A) Saturday 31 October. 3pm. Next home game: Ossett United. Saturday 7 November. 3pm.

The game was wrapped up by Dunston in the 77th minute when Wilson Kneeshaw scored the away side’s fourth and final goal of the match.
