‘ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN’ Residents ‘fight’ against proposals to build 41 new homes

A concerned resident claims he has to ‘slalom’ his way through road signs on the footpath where he lives and fears the current situation is a disaster waiting to happen. Mr Hinchey is worried the junction is so busy where Armitage Road meets Wood Royd that is only a matter of time before there is a serious accident. He cites that the area is busy with school children making their way to and from school and being on a busy bus route where buses often have to mount the kerb to get round the corner on the junction. He also claims visibility is not the best due to the close proximity to the brow of a hill and the number of parked cars. Now barriers are preventing pedestrians from using one side of the road and the other footpath blocked by parked cars. To make matters worse there is also a planning application submitted to build 41 new

homes on fields just off Wood Royd Road with a new junction proposed adding to the volume of traffic and congestion. At a local town council meeting one resident told the meeting that her house vibrates when a bus passes, so much so, that many of her pictures in the house are lop-sided. Lewis Chinchen, local councillor was present at a well attended Stocksbridge Town council meeting last Thursday told Look Local “…the meeting was well attended by residents and I support the objections raised by them, especially the increase pressure on the roads, flood risks, tarmaccing over a Greenfield sites will only increase surface water issues. Greenfield sites should be valued to the community. The negative impacts of the development in my opinion far outweigh any benefits brought by it and I’ll be doing everything I can to stop the development going ahead.”
