Fundraising target set as player leaves hospital

DANIEL Lowe, the teenage footballer saved by a defibrillator last weekend, has been discharged from hospital and has been reunited with his Stocksbridge Park Steels team mates.

The under 15 Yellows have had a week that they will probably never forget. Last Sunday they were devastated when their friend and team mate had a heart attack while playing.

The heroics of several individuals kept him alive and he ended up in the special Heart Hospital in Leeds, where he underwent heart surgery.

The trauma of the ordeal has affected a lot of people and through social media, people from around the country have sent best wishes and get well messages.

So it was some surprise when just seven days later, Daniel requested to join his team mates and go back to the pitch where the incident took place.

Daniel, fifth from the left, was surrounded by ecstatic and relieved players and managers.

Daniel’s family have been keen to use the unfortunate incident as a way of raising awareness of defibrillators. His father said in a statement: “I would like to thank everyone who was at Daniel’s match on Sunday.

Everyone contributed to saving our son’s life. From the referee, who knew that the defibrillator existed, to the parents who ran to get it, the parents who lined the route for the ambulance so it knew where to go and of course the nurses and our coach Nick that started his CPR and brought him back to us."
