STAY IN TUNE WITH THE BLOOMINGDALE PARK DISTRICT

BLOOMING NEWS A New Campaign Celebrating The People Who Bring Our Parks & Programs To Life

There are places where we play, learn, gather, unity and grow. Places where friendships begin, families spend time together and everyday moments become lasting memories. At the Bloomingdale Park District, those moments happen every day — in our parks, programs, facilities and throughout our community. That spirit is at the center of our new Where Community Happens campaign, featured on the cover of this Winter/Spring Program Guide.

Over the coming year, you’ll see Where Community Happens woven throughout Park District communications, programs, parks and facilities. But this campaign isn’t simply a new look or tagline. It’s about the people who bring our parks and programs to life — residents, participants, staff, volunteers, partners and supporters — and the many different ways the Park District becomes part of their lives. Where Community Happens.

Scan Here To Tell Your Story

Have a favorite Park District memory, program, park or experience? Share your story with us by scanning the QR Code! Throughout the year, we’ll feature stories from residents, participants, staff, volunteers and community partners across our social media and communications. Because every story is part of our story — Where Community Happens.

M.O.S.A.I.C. Program Earns IPRA Award

BPD Roundtable Discussion Series Continues The Bloomingdale Park District is pleased to announce that its popular Resident Roundtable discussions will continue in the upcoming year. These open forums provide an opportunity for residents to engage directly with Park District leadership, share feedback, ask questions, and learn about current projects and initiatives. The next scheduled date for the upcoming roundtable is: Saturday, December 5, 2026 10AM The Lounge/Oak Room The session will offer a casual setting for open dialogue and community connection. We encourage residents to attend and take part in shaping the future of parks and recreation in Bloomingdale. To RSVP for the December date email jackie@bloomingdaleparks.org.

The Bloomingdale Park District congratulates Mark Goode, Director of Internal Services, on receiving an IPPYS award from the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA) for his leadership in developing the Park District’s M.O.S.A.I.C. philosophy — an initiative developed through the creativity and collaboration of a team of dedicated staff. M.O.S.A.I.C. — Making Opportunities for Shared Awareness, Integration and Connection — reflects the Park District’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment for staff and patrons. Like the individual pieces of a mosaic, it recognizes that each person brings something unique to our community. 7

CURATOR: JENNIFER MOORE MUSEUM HOURS DURING EXHIBITS WEDNESDAY 3-7PM THURSDAY 12-4PM SATURDAY 12-4PM ADMISSION: $1/RESIDENTS, $2/NON-RESIDENTS, $.50/SENIORS

The Bloomingdale Park District Museum is Bloomingdale’s oldest building and home to five to seven exhibits and 1,000+ visitors per year. Built in 1849 as the First Baptist Church of Christ, visitors today can view the original 1849 ceiling, knotty pine floor, and some of the original glass pane windows. Bloomingdale Academy took over the property in 1860. In 1892, the building became the center of town serving as both the Township Office and the Town Hall. A jail cell was installed in 1910. The historic building was sold to the Bloomingdale Park District in 1965 for the purchase price of $1. The Park District soon began to offer programming to residents at this location. Fine arts and cultural exhibits began to emerge in the early 80s. A major restoration occurred in 1998 and included an art gallery addition. Additionally, much of the original architecture was restored and refurbished.

PHOTO 2027: THE SPACE BETWEEN GALLERIES I & II JAN 16-FEB 24 Reception: Sunday, January 24, 2-4PM

THE SPACE BETWEEN is a jured invitational exhibition of contemporary photography, featuring both digital and analog processes. Bringing together photographers with diverse approaches to the medium, the exhibition explores what lies between the seen and unseen, the moment captured and everything beyond the frame. Each photograph offers a glimpse—a fragment of a larger story. Some images reveal unexpected details, while others leave room for mystery, memory, and imagination. Together, the works invite us to consider not only what a photograph shows, but also what it leaves unseen. Look closely. Look again. What might exist just beyond what you see?

Competitive Gymnastics & Tumbling Teams

The Bloomingdale Beamers Teams are in their 47th season, currently competing in the Illinois Park District Gymnastics Conference (IPDGC). Beamers teams include the Tumbling Team, Gymnastics Training Team and Optionals Gymnastics Team. The two Gymnastics teams require a year-round commitment, while the Tumbling Team runs from Mid-September to Early March. Beamers teams compete in meets against other Park District teams. For more information or to schedule a skills evaluation, please contact Derek at (630) 529-3650 or derek@bloomingdaleparks.org.

Please Note: With your child’s best interests in mind, parents are asked not to attend their child’s class unless invited by the instructor. We have found the quality of instruction has often been affected by parent and/or sibling distractions, interruptions and various other concerns. It is of equal importance that children have quality leisure time with their peers. Our instructors welcome the opportunity to discuss concerns with parents before or after class, time permitting. Thank you again for your cooperation.

General Information

Gymnasts must be the appropriate age by the first day of the class. Participants should bring their own water. If your gymnast missed one or more sessions, they must be tested in order to re-enter the same level class. (Beginner 2 & up) Classes that require coach invitation means that the gymnast has fulfilled the skill requirements and has been approved by their instructor to move up to the next level. Now, your soccer career doesn’t have to end after 8th grade if you don’t play for your high school’s team. Our aim is to play a full 7 game schedule against other park districts, however, this will depend on how many other park districts are able to field a team. Please note that for players who play for their high school’s team, joining this league may violate IHSA rules if they are “in season” at school (Boys: Fall season; Girls: Spring season). Meet Chef Amy

Chef Amy has loved cooking and baking since she was small girl. She would frequently make feasts (and messes) in her parent’s kitchen until they enrolled her in Chef Pina’s cooking classes while in high school. Amy went on to get her BS in Nutrition & Dietetics with a Culinary Emphasis, become a Registered Dietitian, and then ultimately earned a MS in Nutrition Education. Chef Amy has been a culinary dietitian for 16 years and has worked in a variety of settings (restaurants, food pantries, senior living facilities, corporations, test kitchens, etc), but her passion has always been cooking/baking. When Amy is not planning her next classes, she spends time with her husband, two small kids and a large dog.

Meet Chef Amy Chef Amy has loved cooking and baking since she was a small girl.
