Online *Online registration requires a Bloomingdale Park District account. You may create an account in-person.

In-Person *Please fill out the registration form at the Johnston Recreation Center. A front desk registrar will assist you with the registration process. If the front desk is closed, you can leave your completed form and payment in the lockbox located near the front desk.

By Mail *Fill out the registration form at the Johnston Recreation Center or complete the form and mail to the address below.

We accept cash, check, and credit cards, Discover, Visa, and Mastercard.

*New Bloomingdale Park District accounts are required to prove residency in-person at the Johnston Recreation Center Front Desk to receive resident rates. In order to receive the resident rate you must bring a picture ID along with a utility bill or a copy of mortgage/lease.

Registration Reminders Registration fees for all programs must be paid at the time of registration . Registrations are taken on a first‐come, first‐ serve basis. Wait lists are formed when programs are filled.

Every attempt is made to accommodate those on a waitlist.

A $25 fee will be charged for all returned checks. Post‐dated check for payment is not accepted.

Equal Access No participant shall, on the basis of race, sex, creed, national origin, or disability, be denied equal access to programs, activities, services or benefits, or be limited in the exercise of any right, privilege, advantage or opportunity.

Program Refund Policy Individual programs may have specific refund guidelines.

Please refer to specific refund policies stated on any individual program registration form or program handbook.

General refund guidelines are as follows: A full refund, less a $5 administrative fee, is provided to any customer who formally requests one at least 3 business days prior to the first class/practice, or by the program/trip advertised deadline.

Refund requests made within 3 business days prior to the start of the program receive a prorated refund less the $5 administrative fee.

Refunds requested after the program is completed are not granted.

Refunds requested for medical reasons are granted when accompanied by a doctor’s note.

The $5 administrative fee is not assessed for refunds due to low enrollment or cancelled programs, rental/party deposits.

Code of Conduct Participant Guidelines The following guidelines have been developed to help make Park District programs safe and enjoyable for all participants: Show respect to all participants, spectators and staff.

Refrain from using foul language.

Refrain from causing bodily harm to other participants, spectators or staff.

Show respect for equipment, supplies and facilities.

Additional rules may be developed for particular programs and athletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff. Inappropriate conduct may result in removal from premises.

Say Cheese Photographs and videos are periodically taken of people participating in Park District programs and activities. All persons participating in Park District programs/activities or using Park District property thereby agree that any photograph or video taken by the Park District may be used by the Park District for promotional purposes including its promotional videos, brochures, flyers, social media channels and other publications without additional, prior notice or permission and without compensation to the participant.

In May of this year, we started a more focused and in-depth gathering of insights and information from our residents utilizing the findings of last year’s survey as a foundation.

The process will take approximately nine months and at the end we will have a wide range of insights for short- and long-range planning to assist the staff and the Commissioners with charting the course for our programs, facilities, parks and services.

The Bloomingdale Park District is in the process of creating a Comprehensive Master Plan.

A Comprehensive Master Plan consists of recommendations that will guide decisionmaking and investments for the Park District over the next 5 to 10-year period. The Park District has used this Comprehensive Master Process a number of times before, and we have found that involving our residents in master planning results in many benefits for the Park District and our residents. The process began in 2023 with an extensive community survey

Former Commissioners Recognized To celebrate its 60th anniversary, the Bloomingdale Park District paid tribute to two dedicated leaders who left a lasting impact on the community. Former Board Commissioners Mike Vogl and Karen Johns were honored with a tree and bench dedication, respectively.

Mike Vogl, a 23-year veteran of the board, was recognized for his tireless efforts from 1999 to 2022. Mike’s commemorative tree and bench are located at Stratford Park. Karen Johns, a 21year board member, was celebrated for her dedication from 2001 to 2022.

Karen’s commemorative bench, located inside the Oasis Water Park, serves as a reminder of her dedication to the community and the Park District's mission. The Park District extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mike and Karen for their unwavering commitment to serving the community.

Bloomingdale Park

BPD acquires Westlake Park, which consists of 25 acres including a 13-acre lake.

The Baptist Church is sold to the BPD for $1 and converted into the current site of the Bloomingdale 1968 Park District Museum.

800 park district brochures are hand delivered door1965 to-door to residents.

Circle Park MAY 2, Begins As 1.5 acres.

First Halloween Happening takes place.

New addition added to the recreation center.

BPD acquires Seasons 4 Park in Roselle.

A referendum is passed (10410) to establish a Park District and elect the following commissioners: Joe Slater, President; Jack Sheelor, Vice President; Ron Richards, Don Rottenberk; and Margaret Johnson. The first recreation services offered by the Park District includes two basketball teams, two football teams, dance lessons and archery.

Recreation center and pool are built.

Thomas Lovern hired as a full-time director.

BPD acquires Indian Lakes Park, Sunnyside Park and an additional 19 acres for Circle Park.

1982 First Student Art Show is held at the Museum featuring the work of students from DuJardin, Westfield, Central and Winnegabo schools.

Park District quality services continued by being modified due to COVID-19 pandemic guidelines beginning in 2020 and into 2022.

1991

Springfield Park, consisting of 44 acres is dedicated.

Tompkins Park is named after Harold Tompkins, former Superintendent of School Districts #13.

Original architecture is restored with an addition added to the Museum.

1995

Grand Opening for the remodeled JRC.

1994

Devastating flood causes over $250,000 in damages.

2019

Passed by a voter referendum, a major renovation to the Johnston Recreation Center opens with a grand re-opening celebration.

2005

The Bloomingdale Parks Foundation is formed.

1988

Board of Commissioners names the recreation center in honor of Ralph W. Johnston, who served on the village and park boards for more than 30 years.

1986

BPD joins WDSRA to expand recreational services to individuals with disabilities.

The Oasis Water Park opens.

2006

BPD is recognized as an agency of excellence receiving the National Gold Medal Award presented by the National Recreation and Park Association.

Do you love puzzles and enjoy a good competition? Teams will face-off against the other teams, to see who can complete the same 300-piece puzzle the fastest. The team that completes their puzzle first wins a prize. Prizes will also be awarded to the second and third place teams. Space will be limited so register early!

Each registered team receives the same 300-piece puzzle, and all teams will have up to an 1.5 hours to complete the puzzle.

COMMUNITY CANVAS PROJECT

As part of the observance of the Park District’s 60th Anniversary, residents are invited to participate in the Community Canvas Project. The Project will be featured at several special events throughout the fall. Participants are invited to paint a 4 X 4 canvas featuring a favorite Park District activity, playground, sport, or nature scene.

Canvases will be on display at the Bloomingdale Park District Museum in December during the annual Festival of Lights exhibit. This fall the Community Canvas Project will be featured at the events listed here:

Your prince or princess will get to meet and greet with 10 of their favorite princess characters, along with photo ops, live song performances, a story reading, twirling lesson, scavenger hunt and a few surprises too. Each child guest will feel like a VIP (Very Important Princess) and receive a ribbon wand and mini autograph book upon entry, and will also participate in our signature Princess Pledge and coronation ceremony, receiving a real tiara! Saturday, September 21 FISHING DERBY

LOCATION : LAKEVIEW PARK 240 BROKER ROAD, BLOOMINGDALE

Time: 8-10AM Sharpen skills and discover hidden fishing talents at the Bloomingdale Park District’s annual Fishing Derby! Stocked each spring at the Bloomingdale-Roselle Rotary Club Fish Release, Lakeview Park is full to the brim with an abundance of fish species. Prizes are awarded for all types of catches including biggest, smallest, weirdest, and more.

Participants must bring their own fishing gear. Bait is provided or you may bring your own. Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. This is a catchand-release event. Prairie State Bass Masters will be at this event to help measure and weigh fish. Washrooms are not available.

The Bloomingdale Park District Museum is Bloomingdale’s oldest building and home to five to seven exhibits and 1,000+ visitors per year.

Built in 1849 as the First Baptist Church of Christ, visitors today can view the original 1849 ceiling, knotty pine floor, and some of the original glass pane windows. Bloomingdale Academy took over the property in 1860.

In 1892, the building became the center of town serving as both the Township Office and the Town Hall. A jail cell was installed in 1910.

The historic building was sold to the Bloomingdale Park District in 1965 for the purchase price of $1. The Park District soon began to offer programming to residents at this location. Fine arts and cultural exhibits begin to emerge in the early 80s. A major restoration occurred in 1998 and included an art gallery addition.

Additionally, much of the original architecture was restored and refurbished.

Submission Requirements: All photos must be taken at Bloomingdale Park District facilities, parks, special events, or programs.

Categories include, but are not limited to, the following: recreation programs, sports, special events, nature, parks, people in motion, horticulture, and architecture.

Photograph submissions will be judged based on clarity, focus, and subject matter.

There is no limit on the number of entries you can submit.

Photos must be in color.

Photos must be high resolution (minimum of 300 dpi), and submitted in .jpg or .png format.

Each submission must include a title, the location of the photo, the photographer’s name, age, and email.

All entries must be submitted by Friday, December 20.

Blended Preschool - District 13

In cooperation with the Bloomingdale School District 13, the Bloomingdale Park District offers resident students a blended preschool option. This program is for students with and without disabilities. Blended Preschool is housed at Erickson Elementary School and follows the State of Illinois Early Learning Standards featuring “Creative Curriculum.” Students are taught by teachers who hold Illinois State Board of Education certifications in early childhood education as well as special education certification.

Students enrolled in this program follow the District 13 school calendar and abide by District 13 guidelines, procedures, and policies. Bus transportation is available to/from Erickson and the JRC for Preschool Adventures Extended Care.

Bus transportation must be coordinated with District 13 and requires an additional bus fee payable to District 13.

Kids’ Place is a cooperative program between the Bloomingdale Park District and School District #13 conducted at DuJardin & Erickson schools, and School District #15 conducted at Winnebago School.

Kids’ Place works cooperatively with school and park district extra-curricular activities. Before and after school care for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Homework/quiet time provided during PM care daily. Participants should bring a snack daily.

School’s Out! provides endless opportunities for kindergartners through fifth graders on days off of school. Our experienced staff provides a fun, safe and caring environment. Each day offers a variety of structured yet relaxed activities for your child to enjoy such as games, sports, arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor playtime, cooking, trips, special events and a whole lot more. We offer days off of school activities for District 13, 15 and 93 full days off of school (excluding major holidays) and some half days. A minimum of 10 participants is required to conduct a program. Extended hours are available.

Mad Science STEM Odyssey

Ages: 6-10 Location: Medinah Park District Min/Max: 12/20 In this introductory STEM program, kids explore a variety of introductory topic and learn about the wonders of both the life and physical sciences. They explore STEM themes and answer questions like "What makes your hair stand up?,” "Is it a magnet or magic”, and "Just what are carbs anyway?” Young scientists will experiment with light and sound, defy gravity with magnets, learn about static electricity and more!

Exploration will continue at home with a take home project for each class. Join the fun and become a "Mad Scientists”!

Martial Arts

Taekwondo, one of the newest Olympic sports, is a 2000-year-old martial art, offering a variety of benefits for people of all ages and physical abilities. Students improve concentration and self-esteem, achieve lifelong physical fitness, and learn self-defense skills. Classes are taught under the direction of G. Master Ki Hong Kim (9th Dan Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Headquarters). A $50 uniform fee is required at the first class. Belt testing is offered through KH Kim Taekwondo at an additional fee and is held twice a year. All colored belt students are required to have complete sparring gear.

WESTFIELD WALKING TRACK

Did you know the Westfield Walking Track is free for residents of Bloomingdale? The track consists of two lanes. The inside lane is for walkers and the outside lane is for runners/joggers.

15 laps=1 mile. All persons using the indoor track must have a photo ID to show residency. Non-residents must purchase a pass at the Johnston Recreation Center. Passes are good for one year from the date of purchase.

The Bloomingdale Youth Basketball Association is a volunteer organization that is supported by the Bloomingdale Park District that provides a comprehensive basketball program for Bloomingdale and the surrounding communities. The Lancer Elite program is a travel basketball program for higher-level players, and the BPD Youth Basketball (in-house) program is more of a recreational league. Volunteer coaches are needed for all levels.

In-House Basketball League

The in-house Youth Basketball League is for all age levels, Grades 1-8. It is a recreational league with volunteer coaches, and games will be played against other Bloomingdale teams and teams from surrounding towns. Please contact Athletic Supervisor Derek Dvorak for further information. Teams will practice at least once per week and play games mostly on Saturdays.

Jr Dribblers Basketball for Kindergartners

Location: JRC Gym

This program for Kindergartners will help introduce your child to the sport of basketball and help them learn and improve basic basketball fundamentals such as dribbling, shooting and passing, while also featuring game play on an 8-foot basket. Coaches focuses on fun, skill development and team play. Program takes place for 45 minutes between 5:308:00PM, once or twice per week.

All little athletes receive a Tshirt, and a participation medal or trophy.

The Beamers Teams are entering their 44th year of competing in the Illinois Park District Gymnastics Conference (IPDGC).

Please Note: With your child’s best interest in mind, parents are asked not to attend their child’s class unless invited by the instructor. We have found the quality of instruction has often been affected by parent and/ or sibling distractions, interruptions and various other concerns. It is of equal importance that children have quality leisure time with their peers. Our instructors welcome the opportunity to discuss concerns with parents before or after class, time permitting. General Information

Gymnasts must be appropriate age by the first day of the class.

Participants should bring their own water.

Participants should wear leotards or other tight-fitting clothing with no zippers, buttons or hoods.

Participants should NOT wear jewelry.

Gymnastics coaches reserve the right to place gymnasts into the class best-suited to their abilities. If the gymnastics coach feels your child has been placed in the wrong class, he or she will notify you of the necessary change.

If your gymnast missed one or more sessions, they must be tested in order to re-enter the same level class.

(Beginner 2 & up) Classes that require coach invitation means that the gymnast has fulfilled the skill requirements and has been approved by their instructor to move up to the next level.

No shoes, food or drink allowed in the Gymnastics Center.

No spectators are allowed in the gym during class.

Only staff and gymnasts are permitted in the gym during class time.

Gymnastics Teams

Tumbling Team

Ages: Age 4 & up Min/Max: 5/15 Location: Gymnastics Center Tumbling Team is a competitive team for children age 4 through 8th grade, but does not require instructor approval to join. Team members compete with 12 other park districts in 4-7 meets per season, which take place from LateOctober through End of February. Tumbling Team boosts self-esteem, teaches good sportsmanship and refines skills while having fun. Team members will develop their overall tumbling skills and will learn and master tumbling routines following the Illinois Park District Gymnastics Conference (I.P.D.G.C.) tumbling rules. Participants who register for the Dec-Feb session must have already participated in the Sept-Nov session. Meets are an additional fee. Additional information about the Tumbling Team will be covered at a Parents' Meeting taking place within the first few weeks of the start of the program.

The team members will train using Illinois High School Association gymnastics rules since one of the goals of the program is to prepare gymnasts for high school competition.

Our experienced coaching staff will provide an environment suitable for helping your daughter reach her gymnastics goals. Being a part of this team is a commitment and team members are expected to consistently attend practices and compete in the meets. Meets take place from early December through the end of April, and meet fees are NOT included in the monthly fee. Tumbling Skills

Ages: 1st Grade & Up (6-13yr) Min/Max: 5/7 Location: Gymnastics Center This exciting new class will focus specifically on various tumbling skills such as straddle rolls, front & back rolls, bridges, and cartwheels. As the girls show proficiency in these skills, they will progress to more difficult skills such as flip flops, aerial cartwheels, and handsprings. This class is comparable to our Beginners 1 gymnastics class, only without work on the beam, vault, or bars so that the full focus can be on building up proficiency and confidence in tumbling skills. Our progressive curriculum focuses on dance concepts and core techniques as well as teaching the importance of respect, positive attitude and hard work. Park Studio Classes

The Park Studio program track is a studio program designed around the Park District community culture. This track is for dancers of all ages and experience levels who are looking for a progressive session and higher commitment level with final holiday choreography to be performed for guardians at the Holiday Showcase on Monday, 12/16 at 5:00pm location TBD. All Park Studio Dancers will receive a Holiday Showcase t-shirt (included in tuition) that they will wear to the performance! Within this program, participants can engage in core studio-level dance classes. All park studio classes are held at Medinah Park District’s Connolly Recreation Center. In the event of inclement weather or Covid-19 shutdowns classes will be held virtually on Zoom.

Ballet/Tap Combo is the most popular combo for dancers.

Hip Hop/Jazz Combo (A&B, I, II & III)

Jazz music and dance evolved over the years into the popular style of Hip Hop! Dancers will learn basic jazz and hip hop techniques along with popping, locking, and many other cool tricks and moves to energetic pop music. Please wear leotard, tights, or comfortable form fitted clothing, jazz shoes.

Musical Theatre

Learn jazz technique and skills specifically used in theatrical dance. Plus learn how to create characters, improvise, memorize lines, breakdown a scene and everything an actor needs to know. This class is a great opportunity for dancers who are interested in a Lead Role in the Spring Production. No previous dance or theatre experience needed. All levels welcome. Please wear comfortable form fitting clothing and jazz shoes.

Nutcracker Dance Party 3-8y

Dress up in your best ballet attire and join Ms. Lora and the MPD Dance Company for a morning of Nutcracker fun. Our day will start with a fun craft and reading the story of the Nutcracker followed by a dance class full of ballet technique, movement games, and choreography to the music of the Nutcracker.

MPD Company Rehearsal

The Performing Company provides dedicated dancers the opportunity to study Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Lyrical and Jazz more in depth. This performing group is a year-round commitment. Our focus will be creating, leading, and guiding dancers on a disciplined and rewarding path that will instill the fundamentals of dance. Company members are required to take 1 technique class the entire season (Sept 2024-May 2025) in addition to company rehearsal. Rehearsal & Performance Schedule will be available at the first class.

Some rehearsals and performances will be during times outside of regularly scheduled rehearsal time. No audition necessary. All experience levels are welcome. Please wear leotard, tights or comfortable form fitted clothing, and color matching jazz shoes. The registration fee does not include Company Costume, Competition and Event fees. Dance Parties are a condensed 1-day session of dance technique, movement games, crafts, a mini-performance and much more! JRC BIRTHDAY PARTIES

Celebrate your child’s birthday in person at the Johnston Recreation Center Oak Room. Our party host will lead 30-45 minutes of activities that include party games and a craft. Our host will assist you with presents and clean-up. Each child receives a goody bag at the end of the party. Tables are available for the party guests. Two long tables are provided for food and gifts. Parents provide the decorations, food, drinks, paper goods and utensils. Fee includes party host, party games, craft and goody bags. Parents are welcome to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the party for set-up and remain 15 minutes after for clean-up.

Fly your way into our Superhero party! Party goers will decorate their own capes and masks. Varies Superhero activities will be played.

UNICORN PARTY PACKAGE

If your child loves to cook, this party is for them! You will choose from a Pizza Party, Pasta Party, or Fiesta Party package. Dessert is included in each package, but you are more than welcome to bring your own cake and decorations. Candles are not included and must be brought to this party. Packages are two and a half hours long. Additional 30 minutes can be purchased for $75.

Bloomingdale Park District Museum

This renovated historic facility, geared for formal gatherings and business meetings adds a touch of class to any party.

Two rooms are available at limited times with each room able to accommodate groups of up to 50. A kitchenette with a refrigerator and sink is available. Alcohol is permitted with promoter permit. Additional fees may apply.

Johnston Recreation Center Party/Meeting Room

The JRC Lounge/Oak Rooms are perfect for groups of up to 50 for a single multi-purpose room, or up to 100 for both multipurpose rooms. Tables and chairs are available. The Conference Room is also available to rent and can accommodate 15-20 people for a meeting depending on the desired set-up.

Westfield Gymnasium

Westfield Gym is the perfect gymnasium for all your sporting event needs. Interested in renting the gym for basketball or volleyball? If so, then Westfield Gym is the facility for you!

Oasis Water Park

The Oasis Water Park is available for summertime rental for private groups Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. All attractions are available for rentals individually (except Pineapple Plunge drop slide), or combined as a package.

Old Town Pavilion

The quaintness of Old Town Park with its formal fountains makes this pavilion an ideal location for small wedding ceremonies and events. Tables and chairs are not provided.

Homola Picnic Shelter

Located on the north side of Circle Park, this shelter is adjacent to the roller hockey rink, basketball court, playground and parking lot. Picnic tables are not included, seats 64. The maximum rental guest capacity is 100. Portable toilets are on site and indoor restrooms are available to rent.

Springfield Park Shelter

This 40' hexagon shelter is located nears the playground, basketball courts and a beautiful walking path that surrounds the wetlands. Picnic tables are included, seats 56. The maximum rental guest capacity is 100. Portable toilets are on site and indoor restrooms are available to rent.

Johnston Recreation Center Gymnasium

The JRC Gym is perfect for your sporting event rental or can seat up to 250 for a sit-down party event. Tables and chairs are available and there is an adjacent kitchen to add to your rental.

Athletic Fields

The Bloomingdale Park District has available 11 soccer fields at Springfield Park and 14 baseball fields located at seven different park locations. Rates are $35/hour for residents and $45/hour for non-residents. Lights are an additional $28/hour. Security deposits also apply.

Clubhouse Indoor Playground

The Clubhouse Indoor Playground provides a Sponsored by: memorable experience and endless play opportunities that kids and parents will come back for time and time again. The Clubhouse promotes active, inclusive, age-appropriate play that challenges physical, social, cognitive, and decision-making skills in children of a variety of ages and abilities.

Bloomingdale Parks Foundation The Bloomingdale Parks Foundation is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year. Over the past three decades, the foundation has tirelessly provided scholarships for countless individuals, ensuring everyone can participate in the Bloomingdale Park District's quality recreation programs.

With the support of generous donors and many volunteers over the years, the foundation has raised thousands of dollars, making a significant impact on the community.

One notable achievement is the installation of message centers in each park, providing information for residents. These message centers, updated quarterly, ensure that the community stays informed about the latest Park District happenings and events. The foundation members also organized a Pooch Parade in Old Town Park each June with proceeds benefiting the scholarship fund. The Bloomingdale Parks Foundation looks forward to continuing its mission, fostering a vibrant, inclusive community for many more years to come.

The Bloomingdale Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participant’s safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for the above listed programs/activities must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities/programs. You are solely responsible for determining if you and/or your minor child/ward are physically fit and/or skilled for the activities contemplated by this agreement. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.

WARNING OF RISK Recreational activities are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant.

Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slip and falls, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the Bloomingdale Park Districtto guarantee absolute safety.
