Body Positivity for Teens Workshop

NO COST ~ This workshop is intended to be a safe space for youth to come and explore their own concepts of beauty and self love. In this workshop, kids will be able to explore the common messages about beauty that society portrays, and then work to re-define and create their own definitions of what makes each of them beautiful. Through a powerful drawing activity, youth will also be able to explore their relationship with their own bodies and body image and navigate how they would like to cultivate a more positive relationship with their body. Lastly, all youth will be able to write themselves a letter of self-love that will be mailed out to them six weeks after this workshop. The workshop will conclude with a kids yoga. FIRST® LEGO® League FIRST® LEGO® League introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children ages 4-16* through fun, exciting handson learning. Participants gain real-world problem solving experience through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and teachers build a better future together. Our three divisions inspire youth to experiment and grow their critical thinking, coding, and design skills through hands-on STEM learning and robotics. FLL Discover (ages 4-6): This playful introductory STEM program ignites young students’ natural curiosity and builds their habits of learning with hands-on activities in the classroom and at home using LEGO® DUPLO® bricks. Season runs December - April/May. FLL Explore (ages 6-10): In Explore, teams of students ages 6-10 focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0. Season runs December through April/May. FLL Challenge (ages 9-16): Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students ages 9-16* engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. Season runs September through December. *Parent volunteers are essential! Each team requires at least one volunteer coach. No experience needed, FLL has lots of great material for coaches to use to lead a team. Team meetings can also be set based on coach availability. Learn to make soap for home use and/or gift giving. The base (liquid) for the soap varies with the class but can include goat milk, water, wine or other creative inspirations. Use of a variety of oils, lye, fragrance oils and essential oils plus additives of your choice to make it a one-of-akind creation. Saturday, 3/19 ~ 10 MINUTE TABLE RUNNER ~ Winter weather, grey skies, and rain got you down? Join us for a fun class to learn a quick and easy method to make a table runner to dress up your table with flowers. You will need to bring a sewing machine, thread, pins and scissors. You will need a needle to sew buttons on your table runner. There is a $10.00 supply fee that covers the cost of the pattern and fabric you need to make your flowery table runner.

Saturday, 4/16 ~ PILLOW CASES ~ Quick and easy to make using the burrito method. No raw edges will be seen on the inside of these pillow cases. Lunch hour low-impact exercise in disguise! Easy-to-follow line dances with arm movements to improve overall fitness. If you are dissatisfied with your experience, use this form to notify the recreation office in writing prior to the second class to request a full refund. Refund Requests: Refund requests may be granted if the department is notified in writing three working days before the first class. Refunds are NOT available for one-day classes/events, team athletics, trips, or special events. All participant-initiated refunds are subject to the Recreation Manager’s, or designee’s, approval. Once approved, refunded fees can be applied to any current season activities, donated to our scholarship fund, or refunded by check or credit card within 20 days after approval.
