Welcome

Immediately after the celebrations of our tenth birthday last year, I wondered how we could match that high point in 2025. So it’s exciting to see us enter our second decade with a festival bursting with newness, talent and magic, across even more key London locations. A reflection, despite these challenging times, of the exceptional creativity going on all over the UK, Europe and around the world.
Our desire to showcase this outstanding talent within our midst and to make craftsmanship more accessible is shared with our new Headline Sponsor, The Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity & Craftsmanship. This evolution of our ten year relationship with The Richemont Group is generous and fitting. The Foundation’s cultural movement Homo Faber champions creative artisans worldwide and I’m especially looking forward to meeting the makers from the Homo Faber Guide across the city, including at the V&A.
We are delighted that Christie’s London will host the second edition of our charitable exhibition ‘Secret Ceramics’. The project returns to raise funds to support the running of four London ceramic studios for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The importance of craftsmanship in the luxury sector is celebrated in our partnership with the recently redeveloped Sloane Street. No 9 Cork Street showcases a fascinating curated mix of contemporary applications of heritage crafts. There and throughout the programme, especially with the International Pavilions, we highlight makers from around the world, including Japan (especial thanks to Mazda), China, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Hong Kong - among many others.
So much to discover and enjoy at this year’s festival. But underlying the fun and buzz, is the reality of how tough it is to make a living as an independent maker. Even brands and retailers are not having an easy time of it. London, though, is as creative and diverse as ever and continues to be a magnet for talent from all over the world. And, you, the visitors to LCW, continue to bring your enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge in significant numbers. Thank you.

Homo Faber
Presented by Michelangelo Foundation
Homo Faber is a cultural movement centred on international master artisans and the next generations of craftspeople. From engaging education programmes and a biennial celebration to an online platform, its signature projects celebrate and preserve contemporary craftsmanship and its diversity of makers, materials and techniques. Homo Faber is presented by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, a non-profit institution based in Switzerland, which champions contemporary craftspeople worldwide with the aim of promoting a more human, inclusive and sustainable future. During London Craft Week 2025, Homo Faber celebrates the UK capital’s dynamic craft community by highlighting the myriad London-based artisans profiled on Homo Faber Guide. This free online tool allows users to explore travel destinations in a new way: find artisanal addresses and create bespoke city itineraries, connect directly with craftspeople to buy or commission work, and participate in craft-based experiences. The platform profiles thousands of talented international artisans, including more than 200 in London, making it the most represented city on Homo Faber Guide.
To offer a flavour of this diverse artisanal community, on 13 May Homo Faber presents two live craft demonstrations at the V&A Museum. Master puppetry artist Oliver Hymans and emerging talent Ash Appadu reveal the skills and techniques behind marionette making, while master bookbinder Manuel Mazzotti and craft graduate Chihiro Shigemitsu demonstrate their passion for contemporary bookbinding. Each pair of artisans has worked together for six months as part of Homo Faber’s professional integration programme, Homo Faber Fellowship.

Mazda
There is something deeply human in craft. And only we, humans, can feel it. Mazda follows the values of Japanese craftsmanship in everything they do. These values are deeply rooted in the human touch, using precision, dedication, attention to detail and mastery of traditional techniques, striving for premium quality.
Like the captivating flow of natural movement, designed to make you turn back and admire your Mazda. Like the soul given by their craftspeople’s hands that reveal its true character at every start. Or the Jinba Ittai driving dynamics, crafted with the driver at the heart of everything, making you feel like rider and horse in perfect harmony.
For all these reasons, Mazda have never just made carsthey have always crafted them. This is the subtle difference that transforms an ordinary drive into an unforgettable experience. Discover the passion, devotion, and artistry that goes into every Mazda, and experience it for yourself at mazda.co.uk.

For LCW 2025, Mazda will place a spotlight on leading practitioners who have been inspired by traditional Japanese craftsmanship and are now driving these practices forward through contemporary design.

Sloane Street
The Art of Craftsmanship

A luxurious green boulevard, Sloane Street is home to the flagship boutiques of global luxury brands, world-class restaurants and beautiful hotels. It has recently emerged from an extraordinary £46-million transformation - the most significant streetscape improvements since it was first commissioned by the 1st Earl Cadogan in the 18th century - solidifying its position as London’s most elegant shopping destination.
This marks a new era for the Street and blends timeless elegance and heritage craftsmanship with modern functionality and contemporary design. Widened pavements crafted from a honeyhued Yorkstone, a verdant planting scheme and bespoke lighting inspired by ‘temple to the Arts & Crafts movement’, Holy Trinity Church, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail.
This year, a new journey of discovery on Sloane Street celebrates exceptional craftsmanship - from the transformed public space through to unparalleled artistry and workmanship from its brands. Alongside architect-led tours offering behind-the-scenes insight into the transformation, discover refined shoemaking techniques at Ferragamo led by an expert Italian artisan; enjoy an evening of diamond craftsmanship at Jessica McCormack; gain insight into Gucci’s enduring legacy of silk artistry, and understand the artisanal excellence behind FENDI’s Selleria craftsmanship - plus more from Louis Vuitton, Emilia Wickstead, Temperley London, L’Objet, …At Sloane and others.

‘Woven Whispers’ Celebrating Threads of Legacy
Saudi Sadu craft takes centrestage at London Craft Week 2025, in a celebration of cultural pride, tradition and innovation, Heritage Commission proudly introduces its exclusive Sadu weaving collection at London Craft Week 2025 titled ‘Woven Whispers’. This exhibition is a tribute to the timeless tradition of Saudi Sadu weaving - a craft steeped in heritage and reimagined with a contemporary touch, while honouring the indispensable role of Saudi women, the soft storytellers behind each thread.
Sadu weaving is more than just a craft, it is a living archive of Saudi culture. Historically practiced by women, this craft transformed simple fibers into intricate tapestries, each design a whisper of stories, memories, and ancestral wisdom. Today, our artisans fuse these time-honored techniques with modern design elements to create pieces that speak both to the past and future.
At the heart of ‘Woven Whispers’ are the visionary Saudi women whose hands and hearts have carried this craft through generations, where women gathered to weave, sing, and share stories, making it both a social and artistic practice that reinforced community bonds. Each thread wove a tale of resilience, community, and the enduring beauty of our heritage.

Chud Thai Through the Ages: Weaving History, Craft, and Identity
The Royal Thai Embassy in London proudly presents "Chud Thai Through the Ages: Weaving History, Craft, and Identity", a captivating exhibition celebrating the 170th Anniversary of Thailand-UK diplomatic relations. Running from 12 to 18 May 2025 at the Royal Thai Embassy in South Kensington, this event forms part of London Craft Week 2025, showcasing Thailand’s rich cultural heritage through its national costume and textile traditions.
The exhibition honours the pivotal contributions of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, who began championing Thai textiles in the 1970s to empower Thai women and provide sustainable income through traditional weaving. Her Majesty’s efforts have laid the foundation for Thailand’s cultural preservation and economic resilience.
Building upon this legacy, Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya has revitalized Thai textiles for the modern era. Through innovative projects and international collaborations, Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari has redefined the role of Thai textiles in global fashion. Her personal commitment to conserving and promoting Thai arts and crafts has positioned Thailand as a leader in the artistry and craftmanship of the textiles.
The exhibition will feature Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari’s private costume collection, which includes both traditional Thai national costumes and contemporary fashion pieces. This exclusive showcase highlights the seamless blend of heritage and modernity in Thai textile artistry.

Battersea Power Station has quickly established itself as a must-visit shopping, leisure and cultural destination in London, welcoming over 26 million visitors since the iconic building opened its doors to the public in 2022. Named one of the ‘Top 20 Best Cultural Hotspots’ in the world by National Geographic in 2024, the riverside neighbourhood is home to over 150 shops, bars, restaurants and unique leisure experiences, as well as a year-round events programme with key highlights including the Light Festival, celebrASIA and Christmas at Battersea Power Station.
Making art and culture more accessible to the local community has always been an important focus for Battersea Power Station and this vibrant, new neighbourhood is delighted to be collaborating with film director and multimedia visual artist Charlotte Colbert for London Craft Week 2025, as part of the public realm programme ‘Modern Masters’.
Established in partnership with public art and cultural placemaking agency, New Public, ‘Modern Masters’ is a free outdoor series of contemporary art. Now in its second year, the series shines a spotlight on the craftsmanship, innovation and expertise behind the artwork of leading and established artists. From Wednesday 23 April until Sunday 1 June, two of Charlotte’s monumental installations are on display in the Power Station’s historic turbine halls —‘Dreamland Sirens’ and ‘Where Angels Live’. Charlotte’s work often questions identity, dreams and the unconscious. The surreal and fantastical become a way to look at our world afresh and find the space to question and reimagine. In this way, 'Dreamland Sirens' and 'Where Angels Live' perfectly complement ‘Radiant Reflections’, Battersea Power Station’s Spring/Summer 2025 fashion campaign, which focuses on promoting body positivity and encourages visitors to look within and celebrate their reflections.
The series is one of many cultural activations that Battersea Power Station is hosting this year in celebration of Wandsworth being named the London Borough of Culture 2025.

The theme of the China National Pavilion for London Craft Week 2025 is 'Tiangong Kaiwu: Crafting Works of Nature'. 'The meaning of ‘Tiangong’ is the power of nature, while the meaning of ‘Kaiwu’ is the ingenuity of human wisdom. Together, ‘Tiangong’ and 'Kaiwu' complement each other: by combining nature's work and human ingenuity, one can achieve beautiful craftsmanship. This is not only a portrait of the harmonious coexistence of man and nature, but also the philosophy of traditional Chinese crafts that has been passed down for thousands of years.
The exhibition showcases the use of traditional Chinese crafts in a contemporary context through several chapters, including 'Chinese Afternoon Tea', 'Mama's Needlework', 'Waiting for Flowers to Bloom' and 'Hotan Story: Chinese Jade’.
See London Craft Week website for further programme details, including talks and workshops.
