SIDCUP LIBRARY AND CINEMA UPDATE
As the Magazine went to print, Sidcup Library was in the process of moving to its new home in the High Street.
Work on the new cinema that will be managed by the Really Local Group continues at pace. Here the Really Local Group tell us a bit about themselves and their exciting plans for the new centre.
Really Local Group creates and restores cultural, retail, and entertainment infrastructure through the regeneration and renewal of the UK’s high streets. Each of their venues is uniquely designed to reflect local needs and act as a community hub; with cinema at the heart. This will be the fifth venue for the company. They currently own and operate Catford Mews, Ealing Project, Reading Biscuit Factory and Peckham Levels.
There is a real sense of excitement in Sidcup with the cinema, library, café and rentable spaces all coming on stream. Within the cinema, Really Local Group will be providing three screens with comfortable seating and state-of-the-art screen and sound technology. The venue will be open throughout the day and evening and will showcase a range of films for all audiences.
“We are very excited to be opening our new Sidcup venue. Our cinema content will range from the latest film releases, to familyfriendly titles, indie films, live event cinema, and everything in-between. We look forward to welcoming the local Sidcup residents to come and try our coffee, use our work-from-home space, enjoy a film on the big screen and connect with other local residents.”

The Council is in the process of disposing of the old Sidcup Library site at Hadlow Road to BexleyCo, the Council’s arms length development company. The building was well used for many years but now has a failing heating system and damaged roof so it has been decommissioned. BexleyCo have submitted a planning application which has been subject to all the usual consultation. Keep an eye on the news pages on our website for information on when the new library and cinema will open and the facilities available.
