us a very strong point of difference,” Dave says. The years have also seen Dave bring back key services including the National Lottery and PayPoint. The introduction of a thriving home delivery service back in 2021 has also been a “gamechanger,” as Dave explains. “Home delivery started to take off during the pandemic and in early 2021 I joined Snappy Shopper. “The service has grown exponentially since then and I now have three fully branded delivery vehicles making 60 deliveries a day on average.”

Home delivery now accounts for £10,000 a week in sales, a figure that’s growing week on week. “Overall, the store now takes an average of £60,000 a week and I employ 20 members of staff,” says Dave. “It’s a big team, especially for a store of just 800sq ft, but we are so incredibly busy that it’s necessary to ensure the sky-high standards that I want for our shoppers. “Stocking and facing up is a near constant process! “Londis Mercer Way is small but local shoppers can pretty much fulfil all their daily needs here. “We’re surrounded by houses but there’s a main road behind the shop and a large industrial estate up the road, so we get a really large cross section of shoppers from the young to the elderly and our average basket spend is now £10.” The store’s biggest-selling categories are BWS and chilled foods, which each

JACK'S UPDATE

Perfect fit

Back Jack’s for festive sales The outstanding Jack’s own-brand range continues to expand with more new products and promotional mechanics to help you grow footfall, sales and profits this festive period.

After a long and often challenging year for shoppers with the cost of living remaining front of mind throughout, the prospect of the festive season should help lift the spirits and, hopefully, loosen the purse strings. While that might mean that many shoppers may trade up on premium or luxury items like bottles of spirits or cases of beer, the strong likelihood is that they will still very much be on the search for value when it comes to everyday purchases – and that’s precisely where the increasingly comprehensive Jack’s own-brand range comes into its own. The Jack’s range is now firmly established in Londis stores with both retailers and shoppers, who recognise that critical blend of quality and value. “The Jack’s brand is a perfect fit in our store and the
