Helping the homeless

Londis High Crompton in Oldham, Greater Manchester, has donated bottled water for people living homelessly in the local area.

Pauline Town, who leads a community movement in the local area said “I need to say the hugest of thank yous to John and all his customers at Londis High Crompton for the delivery again today of the bottled water for our homeless lads and lasses’ packed lunches.” She added: “I’m so grateful for this help - many of those we help regularly are resident at the night shelter, which means that they are out during the day and don’t have access to drinking water until they can return in the evening.

“Clean water to drink is something that most of us can take for granted, but trust me when I say that it’s not just a necessity, but actually a real luxury for some people.”

Wycombe Homeless Collection has thanked Chandarana family, owners of Tara’s Londis in Downley, Buckinghamshire, for helping to raise muchneeded funds.

The charity aims to prevent homelessness before it starts, reduce harm for people who are homeless, help to house homeless and at-risk people in suitable accommodation, and defend the rights of homeless people.

The charity said: “Dharmesh and Raaj had three collecting tins in the shop and have just handed them to us very full indeed and have taken some empty tins for filling. It’s this kind of support from our community that brings hope.”
