Taz Convenience Store in Castleford, West Yorkshire, has raised £2,365 for the family of a local teenage girl killed in a car crash just before Christmas.

The store organised a raffle and bucket collection to raise funds to help pay for the teenager’s funeral.

Londis Eastholme Drive, in York, has raised £2,200 that will go towards a defibrillator for its local community.

Retailers Imran and Sabina Rabbani store raised the funds holding an in-store raffle over the Christmas period. Rawcliffe Parish Council has now decided to support the fund, which means the money raised will be equally split and go to two charities once decided.

Chocolate for charity Londis Bordon, in East Hampshire, has donated tubs of chocolates to nearby Bordon Fire Station for a charity event.

The on-call team at Bordon Fire Station hosted a drive-thru Santa’s Grotto event with all the money raised going to The Fire Fighters Charity, which helps all serving and retired members of the UK’s fire service live healthier and happier.

Set to come into force at the end of the year, retailers selling alcohol and tobacco from premises with a rateable value of more than £300,000 have to pay an extra tax. The supplement was first introduced in 2012 before being scrapped in 2015.

Spirits are housed next to vapes, behind the store’s service counter, where they shine brightly thanks to a new backlit display and illuminated signage.

“We’ve also brought in lots of convenient new services for local people, such as the National Lottery, PayPoint and parcel collection services such as InPost, which is another big footfall driver,” Thaya adds.

Shoppers’ vehicles aren’t left out of the new service bonanza, thanks to the fitting of a new jet wash and vacuum facility.

All in all, Thaya and the NTS Retail team are thrilled with the new store’s performance, which includes a 200% increase in turnover.

“Sales are performing well ahead of expectations and at this time of year are being driven by local shoppers who are thrilled to have such a fantastic new offer on their doorstep,” says Thaya.
