Over the past year, the Loma Linda Academy team has been busy at work intentionally fulfilling our mission to lead all to Grow in God’s Grace, Thrive Intellectually, Develop True Friendships, and Embrace Healthful Living. Our chaplains endeavored to plan chapels, weeks of prayer, and many other activities that would help our students grow in faith and in their understanding of God’s infinite love! Our administrators and teachers continued their focus on offering rigorous academics within an environment of support where stu dents can thrive. Our entire team of educators and support staff worked tirelessly to nur ture a school culture where students can connect socially and develop skills to grow into individuals who are healthy both physically and emotionally.

We are incredibly blessed, because while our team was busy daily meeting our mission and serving our stu dents, you, our community, continued to support us and provided many resources to make our dreams and plans a reality! Because of your support almost 20% of our student body received financial assistance to attend LLA. With your help we have been able to raise funds for projects that have a direct impact on learn ing on each of our campuses. Thank you for your commitment to LLA, this village provides abundantly for the children entrusted to our care. We couldn’t do it without you.

Dear Friend of LLA,

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! Loma Linda Academy was back in the swing of things for the 2021-2022 school year. We grew in our enrollment and resumed activities like musical concerts, tours, and over night field trips. We also returned to in-person events like our graduation services. It was a joy to see all of our students back on campus. Most of all, we are grateful for the continued generous faithful contributions of our donors, board members, alumni, volunteers, staff, and community supporters who helped us reach our various project goals. Together we continue to provide excellent Adventist Christian education.

I am delighted to introduce Finny Parchamento, who joined the Advancement Office as the Advancement Marketing Officer in July. Finny comes from our own Admissions office where she helped to in crease our enrollment. She brings with her, years of experience in Adven tist education and her passion for our shared mission. We are excited to see what God has in store for LLA as we continue to grow and advance as a school.

Alumni Homecoming 2022

We were excited to host our 2022 Alumni Homecoming back on campus in the Junior High gym. It was a joy to see over 200 alumni attend the cel ebration in person again. We want to thank Dr. Doug Herrmann for host ing, through Zoom, those who were not able to attend in person. Our new Head of Schools, Iveth Valenzuela greeted us with a warm welcome and prayer. Campus Ministries led us with song services while the Elemen tary students surprised us with the Loma Linda Academy school song. With much enthusiasm, the lyrics of the song rang through their voices:

Sing of happy school days, where we learn to stand for Truth; rightly training character in the early days of youth. Loma Linda Academy, we have pledged our honor true; we will fly our colors loyally, and we’ll long remember you! Heart and hand united as we study day by day, “Where knowledge forms character,” in dear LLA!

Nate Brandstater, ’87, delivered the homily on the precious gift of Adventist Education. The Masters from the class of 1973 serenaded us with their acapella songs of praise. It was a wonderful Sabbath program.

Graduation 2022

Graduation

The 111 graduates of the class of 2022 were excited to celebrate their graduation weekend in person with their family and friends. The dedication was held at the Loma Linda Korean SDA Church, the baccalaureate was held at Loma Linda University Church, and the commencement was held at LLA’s Oak Grove along with the Children Center, Kindergarten, and 8th-grade graduations.

Over 98% of our graduates attend college. La Sierra University award ed a full scholarship to one of our graduates. Many of our class of 2022 graduates will be attending our Seventh-day Adventist Universities such as Southern Adventist University, Oakwood University, and La Sierra University just to name a few, while some were accepted to UC and Cal State schools.

As we ended the 2021-2022 school year, we bid farewell to Dr. Andy Sandiford (41 years) and Martha Myers (21 years) as they enjoy retirement life. We are grateful for the decades of service and dedication to LLA.

Our dear friend and LLA colleague, Julie Majestic passed away on February 23, 2022. Julie touched the lives of so many people in our community as the director of our LLA Children’s Center and was a part of our family for over 40 years.

New Strider Bike Program

In March, 2022, LLA alumnus, Alexander Smith of Malcom Smith Motorsports funded our new Kindergarten Strider Bike Program. Smith provided 27 fully assembled Strider Bikes and an instruction bike for Kinder garten PE classes. The Strider Bikes Program is the first of its kind in the In land Empire.

Music Concerts

Finally! Indoor concerts are back. Par ents were able to enjoy seeing their children perform in person whether it was in choir, band, or orchestra.

International Day

Loma Linda Academy is a diverse commu nity. The High School Campus Ministries cel ebrated diversity through International Day where students wore their cultural costumes and shared cultural food.

Athletic Highlights

Congratulations to our swim team! The boys placed first and the girls placed second in their league competition.

The elementary parking lot has a fresh look! The parking lot was repaved and repainted.

Junior High Renovation

Renovation Update

Phase 1 of the Junior High campus renovation project started on June 6, 2022. “We want our spaces to match the instruction that we provide,” said Amy Cornwall, Junior High Principal. “The Junior High has some of oldest buildings on campus and it was time for a refresh.”

The first phase of the renovation in volved the redesign and remodel of five classrooms to house our humani ties – English, History, and Bible. The new office suite allows staff to greet students in a nice, modern office space. The new centralized location provides ample space for meeting and for storage.

The original classrooms were de signed in the ’40s and ’50s. The new classrooms have new technology such as a smart boards for teach ers to use for instruction. Finally, new A/C units were installed for the class rooms.

The second phase of the project will include the second story of the Ju nior High Gym. There are unfinished and undeveloped spaces planned for our STEM wing. New classrooms and new labs are planned for our students to collaborate on projects. Watch for more information about plans to help our students to thrive and grow at the Junior High.
