Annual Report We are blessed! Over the past school year Loma Linda Academy has had the opportunity to embrace change and growth. We did this while preserving the excellence that is a trademark of our school. We also continue the time-honored traditions that our students love, and our alumni remember long after they have graduated.

During our time of online learning we saw our teachers quickly learn more about the technology and variety of resources available to deliver instruction. Upon returning to campus, our teachers and students were excited to return to normal, but with the advantage of the skills and systems that we learned while online. To provide the necessary access to these resources for our students, we planned the implementation of a 1-to-1 program that provides electronic devices for academic use. Last year’s Impact Fund was devoted to this project. With the help of our donors, we were able to raise $85,000 to fund the project.
As we all know, the pandemic also created an economic hardship for many families. Loma Linda Academy was able to provide tuition assistance to make sure that our students continued to receive an Adventist education during this time. What a blessing! This was only possible because of a community of families, alumni, and friends of LLA who believe in the mission of the school and provided support to make sure this mission continues. Thank you for partnering with us in the education of the children that God has entrusted to us, and leading them to grow in God’s grace, thrive academically, develop true friendships, and embrace healthful living.
A total of 18 students were awarded scholarships, out of the 39 applicants from the 2021-2022 school year.
The 2020-2021 school year at Loma Linda Academy has been filled with many new experiences and unforgettable moments. This report highlights the LLA families, programs, donors, and alumni that continue to serve our community with a steadfast commitment to empowering LLA to provide excellent Christian education. The ministry of Loma Linda Academy would not be possible without the generosity of volunteers, board members, donors, community supporters, and alumni who have chosen to partner with our teachers, staff, and administrators in the sacred work of educating students for Fonny Oei Director of Advancement eternity. I would like to personally thank each one of you for your prayers and support over the past year. I am proud to be a part of an extraordinary community that prioritizes the fulfillment of the LLA mission - to grow in God’s grace, thrive in academics, develop true friendships, and embrace healthful living.

Alumni
Virtual Alumni Homecoming 2021 Our 2021 Alumni Homecoming took place in an unprecedented manner. The celebration began with a virtual program conducted via livestream and Zoom conference. Participants watched the pre-recorded program together via Zoom. Dr. Doug Herrmann began with welcome and prayer and students from our Campus Ministries and Music Department led in songs of praise and provided special music. Alumni and staff shared memories via pre-recorded interviews and Sue Peterson, retired PE teacher, gave a virtual campus tour. Alumni were able to reconnect through chat rooms during the afternoon session.

Impact Fund WHAT IS THE IMPACT FUND? The Impact Fund is an annual campaign to make a difference in the learning experience of our students. The fund has provided resources to enhance student learning and needs in a variety of ways. As each project is funded, excess of these non-restricted funds could be distributed to other projects. The LLA Impact Fund will help fund projects like:
Shade for Elementary Bleachers In order to Thrive Intellectually, our little ones need to know that they are safe and cared for in every way. This project will provide a shaded area for our TK-2nd grade students as they wait to be picked up after school. The shade covering for the west-end bleachers currently only cover about half of the bleacher area. This project would double the area that would be covered with the shade cloth.
Shade for High School Lunch Tables One of our goals is to nurture our students by creating spaces to build community and Nurture True Friendships, as such, we have aimed to provide comfortable spaces for our students to relax and spend time together between classes and during lunch. One of those spaces is around the school Oak Grove on the high school campus. We have placed lunch tables around the trees and grassy area to create a park-like setting for our students, but without umbrellas, our students are unable to utilize those spaces during much of the school hours.
Portable Sound System for Junior High Junior high students need fun, activities, and friendship in order to thrive. A portable sound system will enhance outdoor large group activities from games and ice-breakers to outdoor worship programs. Sometimes Chan Auditorium is not available, and sometimes the beautiful outdoors just makes an ideal setting for an assembly or worship. A portable sound system will provide new spaces for our students to Grow in God’s Grace and Thrive Intellectually! 4

LLA contributes funding for additional programs and scholarships as a way of giving back to the community by providing the opportunity for excellent Christian education through assisting 127 worthy students. In addition, LLA endowments assisted 24 students in the past school year.

Over the course of the 2020-21 school year, LLA assisted 193 students with student aid. With approximately 1,109 full-time students, these financial aid gifts impacted about 17% of the student body.

Highlights Athletic Highlights 2020-2021 Golf achieved CIF runner-up champions! Badminton qualified for CIF! Two of our own coaches, Daniel Kim, head coach of girls’ basketball, and Leo Adorador, head coach of golf, both received coach of the year. Our girls basketball team received the best team sportsmanship award and qualified for CIF 1st round playoffs for the first time in six years. Matt Diehl received MVP in golf. We are so grateful to have had the chance to play during the 2020-2021 season.
Music Highlights 2020-2021 Students in our LLA music program were able to prepare and perform several concerts during the 2020-2021 school year.
