Stone enjoys the manual transmission in his convertible, the “peppiness” of the engine, and the convertible top.

David Stone Chrysler LeBaron GTC Stone said his 1993 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible was his choice because it would get him from point A to point B. He appreciated that he could buy the car flat out without the need for monthly payments.

o many people, cars are much more alive than the metal it took to make them. They represent freedom, a way to get around, and a lot of potential fun.

Katie Prior (11), Pam Jones (12), Ross Leth (12), and David Stone, an English teacher at Loma Linda Academy, all attest to the joys of owning and driving their own vehicles. A lot of new drivers get some choice or say in their first vehicle. In some cases, the decision is based on what captures the eye. Prior (11) said she first saw the Scion xB on the freeway. “It looked interesting and I knew it was for me,” she said firmly.

Jones (12) wanted something that was unique, and saw the New Beetle. She noticed how it stuck out of the crowd, and became she curious about it.

At the opposite end of the spectrum was Leth (12), who had just “moved from Tennessee, and needed a car for school in a couple days.” He saw his 2001 Volkswagen Jetta up on a stand in front of the dealer, and decided it was the best he could do in the time he had.

n Sunday, February 5, 2006, Theo Stream (11) cheered on the Seattle Seahawks as they played the Pittsburgh Steelers in Detroit for the Super bowl. For most people this was just a game, but for Theo, this was “The Game”.

Theo used to be a resident of Seattle; so naturally, he is a big Seahawk fan. He is such a big fan that at times he can be seen wearing his Shawn Alexander jersey driving around with a Seahawks flag flying from his truck. During the big day, Theo was at home with a lot of company.

They had some food and all gathered around the television to watch the big game. Unfortunately, the game did not go well for Theo and his Seahawks. The final score ended up being ten to twenty-one, with Pittsburgh walking away with the trophy. To make it worse, Hines Ward of the Steelers won the MVP. Theo was not happy with the outcome of the game saying, “It was a robbery!”

Theo is a die-hard fan however; and you can bet he will be back cheering for his team next season.

“It doesn’t matter where [the date is] as long as it holds a special place in my mind and heart,” she said with a smile.

Yet many teens have learned that just answering the question of “where you want to go on a date” simply does not answer it all. Who pays for what?

How long should it last? Can a girl ask the guy out?

The simple idea of dating seems to be obscured behind a barrier of questions.

“The Fettuccini may have been good, but the ladies were better,” pointed out Patrick Imperio (09) “I’ve heard from upper classmen that LLA banquet foods aren’t so good, but this time they proved it wrong,” said Timothy Rantung (09).

Keith Cole (09) summed it up the flavor of the food with one word, “desert.”“We’re on a cruise ship, and will be stopping in various places!” said the programs MCs, Nina Herzog and Brian Lee beginning the entertainment. First we stopped at tropical Hawaii where Christine Lucrida, Michelle Lao, Stephanie Lao, E’lanna Dugaduga and Jessica Williams, LLA Religion Teacher, were led down the aisle following Matthew Frias playing his ukulele. The ladies went on stage and performed a smoothing hula dance. “I never would’ve imagined Ms. Williams dancing [Hula],” Parker Arnold (09).

Then we stopped in Greece and a unique Greek dance performed by various sopho-

mores. They simply held each others arms to create a circle and danced to Greek music.

We then came to the Philippine Islands and we saw an awesome Filipino dance called Tinikling. Four people dance in between bamboo sticks in a tic-tac-tow formation, with four people kneeling on the ground hitting them together. “[The Filipino dance] was complex.”

Battle of the Sexes was a game where a team of guys and a team of girls were asked questions from Nina and Brian about the opposite gender.

Next there was a piano number on “Variations of Happy Birthday.” As three boys rotated around the bench playing different styles of happy birthday, they later ended up as three on the same bench. The song was dedicated to all the freshman and sophomore February birthdays.

Nina Herzog concluded the program by singing the appropriate number, “Love in Any Language.” As the night went on, students left with a memory of a wonderful evening.

Gregory Woodhouse (10) explained that after his iPod broke he decided to try the Creative Zen Touch, and he likes it better than his iPod, because of the long battery life. Though the Creative Zen may not have as many features as the latest iPod, such as video and photo capability, it does function just as well as a dedicated music player.

Many students are familiar with the popular iTunes compatible phones such as the Motorola Rocker and the new Slvr, but one of the newest trends in musical phones is the use of micro flash cards. The cards in the phones are

The weekend of January 26-28, 100 of Loma Linda Academy’s (LLA) juniors and seniors gathered with 400 other students from around Southern California for one purpose: Full Contact-Christianity. That was the theme of this year’s annual Junior/Senior Bible Conference.

The event kicked off with a general session that broke the ice for the whole event. Then students were divided into family groups with people from other schools. That was a new experience for some.

“Our family group had to rely on each other the first night because we couldn’t find our cabin. It was a great twenty minute adventure,” comments Amy Lee (12).

The nervous feelings were soon gone when students realized they could be comfortable in a family group situation. Zach Jaggers (12) shares “It was a little awkward. Everyone was quiet but at the end of the night we all opened up.”

“Family group gave me the opportunity to say what was on my mind in a comfortable en-

vironment. I got a lot of things off my mind in family group,” shares Matthew Chalbegean (12).

The Radical Road gave the opportunity for family groups to learn the values of teamwork, and working together. “The radical road definitely made our family group closer to each other. The tasks forced us to work together and through that we got closer,” shared Erika Gamundoy (12).

The general sessions were filled with praise, drama, video presentations and a message from the event’s speaker Pastor Mark Woodsen, one of the pastors at the conference office. He encouraged students to give all their problems to God and to be well balanced with Christ.

“His talk about being an impact player was really inspiring. It made me want to be a better person and become a team player for God,” shares Jordan Oxley (12).

“The message taught me about how to be a full contact Christian in every way. He covered everything from prayer to being an impact player.

He also talked about service. That’s important to

Before the whole event started, 17 LLA students came up to serve with others that have been selected to be leaders. There were many types of leaders from family group, video, prayer warriors, and tech warriors. Leaders had to be willing to serve their peers. “Being a leader meant asking God to use you as a tool to bring people to Christ, even though as if it seemed that you were unsure about what you were doing,” comments Jishiel Argueta (12).

A member of the praise band Jason Slater (12) shared, “I loved being a music leader. I had a really good time. I got to do what I love while praising God.” Overall, students agree that Bible Camp had a positive effect on their spiritual lives. “I loved Bible Camp. It is a great spiritual experience that any junior or senior should have. I recommend it to anyone that wants a new experience in their spiritual walk,” shares Lee. - Warrie Layon

This includes many aspects such as taking SATs, having a high GPA, decisions about which education system to be in, and choices on future careers.

SATs are where most people start their process for college. According to the Princeton Review’s online site, “most colleges require the test for admissions and use it to award scholarships.” The SAT consists of critical reading, writing, and math. It is a long test that takes three hours and 45 minutes.

If students do not do well on the test, Zach Golay (12) says it is not the end of the world because you can retake the test and it does not test personality.

Edna Hernandez (12) would like to go to PUC for her first year then go to WWC. She wants to go to PUC for her first year because it is closer to home, beautiful, has a nice bio department, and is going to be a stepping stone for her next year in college.

She wants to go to WWC later because it is far away. Hernandez would like to do bio pre-med with a minor in English.

Kevin Tan (12) is planning on going to WWC or PUC. He is thinking of attending WWC because it has racket ball and a skate park. But, he likes the food at PUC. Either way he would like to do pre-dent or bio.

Brittany Schwartzkopf (12) would like to go to (University of California in Santa Cruz) UCSC, UCSB, or (University of California in San Diego) UCSD. She likes all of those colleges because they are in California and close to the beach. Schwartzkopf would like to do Marine Biology.

Golay and Pope have advice for non-seniors as well. Pope says that there is only one chance at high school so do your best

Krista Mattison (11) went to a youth leadership conference in Jacksonville Florida, where she learned how to get youth to go back to church. She went with her Pathfinder Club and was gone for over a week.

Dr. L. Roo McKenzie was award the Outstanding Administrator Award by the Alumni Awards Foundation, and Philip Binkley was given the Teacher of Excellence award.

oey Elder (12) was born and raised in El Segundo, a suburb of Los Angeles, California. Each summer he goes to visit his uncle in Mammoth Lakes, California.

Elder commented, “ My parents taught me to be smart and knowledgeable but my uncle taught me to enjoy the smaller things, including cooking and the mountains.” He began cooking with his uncle at age 13 and quickly fell in love with it.

He said, “My uncles taught me to cook anything with meat.”

Elder said that he feels the best food comes from the home. He said, “It is very easy to make food taste good. Elder commented that enjoys food from ‘The Newsstand’ in Hollywood. He said, “They are very creative with the food they make. Mostly lunch stuff. They also make their own vegetable chips.” He also commented that ‘Pinks’ on Vine in Hollywood has good hot dogs.

Elder said that he cooks as a service for his community and church but he also said that if people want him to cook for them, he is not averse. “I love cooking and, as long as the ingredients are paid for, I would love to cook for others.”
