Logan Saddened by Death of Dr~ l.N. Toftness David Toftness; Dr. l.N.'s brothers-in-law, Drs. Glen Gaynor, Clifford Titus, the late Van Fenander, and Ronald Stockman; nephews, Dr. Arden Fenander and Dr. William Stockman; and great-niece, Dr. Laura Fenander. Another nephew, Dr. James Toftness (son of Dr. Gordon) graduated from Northwestern Chiropractic College.
Dr. l.N. Toftness of Cumberland, Wisconsin, a leader in the chiropractic profession and long-time friend of Logan College, passed away on September 24. A graduate of Palmer College, Dr. Toftness nonetheless maintained a close association with Logan, having studied with our founder, Dr. Hugh B. Logan, and utilized Dr. Logan's techniques in the tre~tment of patients. This past June, Dr. Toftness and his wife Louise were honored during the Logan Homecoming banquet. Dr. Toftness had assisted the College in many ways, most recently by making the College the beneficiary of a $250,000 living trust. Also, Dr. Toftness set up a research fund at Logan for studies of the Sensometer, a chiropractic instrument which he developed. Over the years, Dr. Toftness often addressed Logan students, faculty, and alumni, on the development and use of the Sensometer. He was a frequent Logan Homecoming lecturer, speaking on a variety of topics. Dr. Beatrice Hagen, Logan President, described Dr. Toftness as "one of the great figures of our profession. In addition to being a beloved and caring practitioner in his own community, he had tremendous curiosity and a strong motivation to improve chiropractic treatment. That led to his development of the Sensometer, into which he poured

years of work and large amounts of his personal funds. We are so thankful that he extended his friendship and his expertise to Logan College in so many ways over the years. We will miss him very much." Dr. Toftness practiced in Cumberland for 58 years, until shortly before his death. He was one of four brothers in the chiropractic profession. One brother, Dr. Luther Toftness, also studied under Dr. H.B. Logan, aft.er graduating from Lincoln College. Members of Dr. l.N.'s family who are Logan graduates include his other two brothers, Dr. Gordon and Dr. Forest Toftness; Dr. Gordon's son, Dr. Thomas Toftness; Dr. Forest's wife, Dr. Myrtle Toftness; Dr. Luther's son, Dr.
In addition to his three brothers and his wife, Louise, Dr. Toftness is survived by six sisters: Eva Bjork, Harriet Ziegler, June Peterson, Aagot Titus, Doris Stockman, and Gloria Gaynor. Another sister, Vivian Fenander Milward, passed away in 1987. Dr. l.N. was joined in his practice by Dr. Gordon Toftness in 1947. Dr. Gordon has served as Chairman of the Logan Board of Trustees since 1980. Dr. Gordon's son, Dr. Thomas Toftness, joined the practice in 1979. Dr. Toftness ¡will be missed not only by his family, his patients, and the Logan community, but also by many in the Cumberland area, where he was very active in civic affairs.
