December 19 - 31, 2011 LOGAN GRADUATES 113 DOCTORS OF CHIROPRACTIC AT DECEMBER COMMENCEMENT; 14 STUDENTS RECEIVE MASTER’S DEGREE IN SPORTS SCIENCE AND REHABILITATION Logan College of Chiropractic/University Programs held its 166th commencement at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 17 in the William D. Purser, DC Center on the Logan campus. Charles Feltmann, the behind-the-scenes director of graduation planning, reports that 113 candidates received their doctorate degrees. Also, 14 students received their Masters in Sports Science and Rehabilitation degrees from Logan. They were: Demetrious L. Anderson, DC; Ryan S. Bates, DC; Jason G. Biondo, DC; Shamika A. Cordis, DC; Theodore W. Davis, DC; Eric D. Dixon, DC; Megan K. Floarke, DC; Christopher T. Ginter, DC; Matthew D. Gordon, DC; Joel T. Gyimesi, DC; Patrick J. Healey, DC, Tomonori Kawai, DC; Mary K. Martinez, DC; Jude A. Miller, DC; Dayna Carol Moore, DC; Kevin P. Ward, DC; Michael Chi-Fu Weng, DC; and Jeffrey T. Yates, DC. Logan President George A. Goodman, DC, FICC, and other college officials led the ceremony. John L. Gutweiler, PhD, professor in the Logan Basic Science Division, served as master of ceremonies. The commencement speaker was Dr. Terry Yochum, director of the Rocky Mountain Chiropractic Radiological Center in Denver, Colo., and an adjunct professor of radiology at Southern California University of Health Sciences. Dr. Yochum is a second-generation chiropractic physician and a cum laude graduate of the National College of Chiropractic, where he subsequently completed his radiology specialty. His daughter, Dr. Alicia M. Yochum was a member of the December Doctor of Chiropractic graduating class. Summa cum graduate Darcee A. Schmidt delivered the valedictorian address. John A. Tarpoff II was presented with the Dr. Al Chamberlain Student Doctor Award, which includes a $1,000 scholarship, from the Logan College Alumni Association. Logan’s 50th Awards Presentation was held on Friday, December 16 at a special breakfast in the Purser Center. Twenty-nine graduates were recognized with special academic honors. They included: valedictorian Darcee A. Schmidt, Derek P. Smith, Alicia M. Yochum and Leon C. Hansmeier -- summa cum laude (3.88 GPA or better); Jordan H. Mackner, Elizabeth R. McClain, David T. Bergmann, Jonathan L. Elson, Elizabeth A. Paunicka, Joseph P. Blampied, Benjamin F. Rhoades, MaryAnne M. Harrington, Jason S. Pirigyi, and David P. Kauffman -- magna cum laude (3.74 GPA or better); and Nicholas R. Wachtel, Elyssa M. Lindenberger, Zachary C.R. Leible, Jennifer L. Richardson, Shaun M. Briggs, Brice A. Wiltgen, David A. Glazer, Daniel J. Weessies, Joseph D. Kling, Aaron L.T. Stinson, Lisa A. Griffith, LaRissa M. Tilley, Steven A. Antoniotti, Sharonrose A. Samelak, and Ashley F. Madden -cum laude (3.6 GPA or better). President Goodman recognized LaRissa Tilley, former president of the Logan Student Doctors’ Council (SDC) with a special President’s Award; other honorees included: Jordan H.
