Adam Ligon, public relations coordinator for the Logan Sports Council, reports that there will be a Logan Sports Council Finals Pancake Breakfast on Monday, April 18 between 6:30 and 10:30 a.m. in the Logan Cafeteria. Tickets for the event will be sold April 12-14 from 11 a.m. to noon in the cafeteria for $5. Tickets will be sold the day of the event for $7. Trimester 7 student interns Loriann Laugle and Elisabeth Pang just returned from ChiroMission, where they spent five days (March 30-April 3) providing chiropractic care to the people of the Dominican Republic (where there are no chiropractors!). Primal Pictures is for consideration: it’s an interactive 3D animated human anatomy for clinical practice, research, and teaching. It’s the ultimate online anatomy reference. Faculty and students are invited and encouraged to try both modules – Spine: clinical & Spine: Chiropractic- and provide us with feedback and recommendations to help us make the best selection. Primal Pictures is on free trial base till May 15. MURALS is the new Information Literacy tool recently added: It’s an online library user guides that explain how to locate and use many library resources. It can be accessed anytime: in the library, at home, or remote location. It has visuals with audio narration. The instructional online video modules quickly show how to use databases such as EBSCOhost, search engines, encyclopedias, governmental resources, ready reference, career guidance, college directories, news media, specialty resources and many others. Once these tutorials are completed, please take the quiz and get your Information Literacy Certificate. Chabha Hocine-Tepe, director of the Learning Resources Center, will be presenting at the 2011 MOBIUS Annual Conference, June 7- 9 in Columbia, Mo. Topic: Using Outreach Initiatives in Building Bridges – Sharing a library experience; the topic will explore different venues and creative approaches used by libraries to reach out to their users to identify their needs. What works and what doesn’t when promoting information literacy, social networking, and library services? Tri-7 student Michael Koch was featured in a question-and-answer article, accompanied by his photo on the Logan campus, in an April 10 employment column entitled “The Workplace” in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. SUBJECTS NEEDED FOR RESEARCH STUDIES Dr. Dennis Enix, DC, MBA, associate professor, is currently recruiting subjects for a research study to examine proprioception and postural control in individuals from the ages of 20 to 80 in an attempt to stratify how these factors change with age. This study is in collaboration with the Saint Louis University Department of Neurology and Psychiatry. Anyone who is interested in participating in this study should contact the Research Division in room S118. Extra credit may be available for students from some instructors. Diagnostic imaging fellow, Eve E. Bonic, DC, DACBR, is recruiting subjects for a research project entitled, “Ultrasonographic Evaluation of the Anterior Talofibular Ligament: Thickness of Normal Ligaments.” Subjects between the ages of 18-45 who have not had ankle pain or an ankle sprain within the past year and who do not have a history of ankle fracture, surgery or diabetes mellitus qualify for this study. NEXT APPLIED KINESIOLOGY MEETING IS TUESDAY, APRIL 12 The Applied Kinesiology Club will meet on Tuesday, April 5 at 11:05 a.m. in room G40. Dr. Katharine Conable, associate professor in the Logan Chiropractic Science division, will teach the Tuesday meetings of the A.K. club, beginning with the most basic basics of A.K. This week’s topic is Aerobic and Anaerobic Muscle Testing - muscles testing is okay in the office but what if the patient has problems in activity? All trimester students are welcome to these hands-on workshops. No previous experience is required. These meetings afford students an opportunity to practice these and more advanced AK skills with the help of club officers and experienced club members. Learn to evaluate muscle function with scientific precision and to use muscle responses as functional neurological feedback. Gain certainty on your ability to correct postural deviations and to identify subluxations. Learn simple manual methods of optimizing muscle function to prevent injury and help adjustments hold. Through the trimester, videos of Dr. Goodheart telling his stories of the early discoveries in AK and then practicing those techniques will be presented. AS PUBLISHED PREVIOUSLY… Dates are now posted through the end of April for students to sign up for the two-day rotation at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Students will be able to shadow Dr. Scott Gibbs in surgery on day one and in clinical rotations on day two. Dates are available weekly on Mondays and Tuesdays.
