CAMP: SOVEREIGN HILL The Gold Rush… Imagine travelling back in time to the hight of the Victorian Gold Rush in 1860. What would it look like? What would it smell like? Well, our Grade 5 students don’t have to use their imaginations to answer the questions - they’ve actually been there! Last week, our Grade 5 LODGERS went on a three day adventure camp to Sovereign Hill in chilly Ballarat. For those of you who don’t know, Sovereign Hill is an open-air museum in Golden Point, a suburb of Ballarat, Victoria. Our Grade 5 students have been camping at Sovereign Hill for years. Lachlan B from 5W said, “Exploring Sovereign Hill was amazing. The show ‘Blood On The Southern Cross” was cool - especially with all the sound and light effects.” Mannat K from 5C said, “Camp was amazing. I
have never been on a better camp or had a better experience. I was very happy when I found gold in the river. Both the gold mines we visited were interesting, too.” Skye O from 5K said, “It was a blast from the past walking through Sovereign Hill. I learnt that life wasn’t easy for people back in the 1800s.” Steph from 5C said, “It was a fun camp and my favourite part was panning for gold.” Navish from 5C said, “Sovereign Hill was a great place to learn about Australian History. I learnt that people were treated very unfairly on the gold fields. I felt like I was walking through history.” It sounds like the experience was worth its weight in gold. Written by Rob Kelly

STEPPING INTO PREP… Stepping into Mrs Forte’s shoes is no easy task, but Miss Gray is happy to give it go. “I’m very exited! I have been looking forward to it.”
Introducing Miss Gray… We all remember our first day at school. Stepping into prep for the first time is daunting. Thankfully the wonderful teachers of Berwick Lodge Primary School work hard to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible - and we think the newest LODGER to join Berwick Lodge Primary School would agree.
When talking about her LODGER colleagues, Miss Gray said, “They're beautiful people and very supportive. It’s going to be a great year!”
When asked how the students were feeling about the change Miss Gray said they were coping well. “The class is wonderful and everyone has adapted really well to the change. They are as excited as I am to be here.”
Taking over from Mrs Sophie Forte (who recently left to have a baby), is Miss Belinda Gray. Miss Gray is a graduate teacher and has been appointed to teach Prep F for the remainder of 2018.
