POSITIVE SCHOOL CASE AS REGION HITS ...
95% FIRST JAB
LODDON has achieved a major milestone with 95 per cent of local residents answering the call to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
They have been praised for meeting the challenge by staff from Inglewood and Boort health services and Loddon Mayor Neil Beattie. But they have urged people to stay vigilant and keep communities safe. Hitting 95 per cent first jab and a 7.2 per cent jump to 78.7 per cent of residents having their second dose came as the region readies for less restrictions from 6pm tomorrow. And there has been a rise in lo-
cal COVID cases for the first time in more than a year. Inglewood Primary School closed on Monday after a positive case was at the school for two days last week. Principal Lex Johnstone said the school closed as a precaution to identify staff and students at the school last Wednesday and
Thursday who might have been a close contact of the case. While the Education Department listed the school as also closed Tuesday, parents were told students would return that day unless they were a close contact. Monday’s sudden closure saw Inglewood and Districts Health Service start drive-through COVID testing an hour earlier to meet demand. Government data has shown active cases in the Inglewood and Pyramid Hill district postcodes this week. There has also been spikes in cases in the 3551 postcode that stretches from the outskirts of Bendigo into the Loddon Shire. Premier Daniel Andrews on
Sunday announced further relaxation of restrictions although the “double vax” economy remains in place. From tomorrow, masks will not need to be worn outside, up to 10 people can be in a home and 30 people can meet outdoors. Community sport has also been given the green light. Density settings replace caps for hotels and cafes where patrons are fully vaccinated and Melbourne people can again travel to country Victoria. The adjusted roadmap now says that when 90 per cent aged 12 and over are fully vaccinated, capacity, density and gathering limits will be removed. That milestone is expected next month.
