HALF HAVE BOOST JAB

A MAJORITY of Loddon residents have now had their COVID-19 booster vaccine.

Expansion of eligibility for the third jab was brought forward over the past month with more than 50 per cent of residents 12 and over rolling up their sleeves. But latest data shows vaccination of children aged between five and 11 is lagging in some local communities. State Government figures last week had half the Loddon postcodes with a vaccination rate under 45 per cent, some at just 25 per cent. The data comes as Boort District Health’s clinical services director Donna Doyle urged Loddon residents to have their full vaccination against COVID-19. She said vaccination was “especially important as we transition to living with COVID positive cases in our communities (and) that as many people as possible are fully vaccinated”. “BDH staff are mandated to have received their third booster COVID vaccine dose by March 12 in order to continue working. We are well on our way to full compliance with this with currently 92 per cent of staff having already had their third (booster) dose. “At a regional COVID forum held last week it was reported that 85 per cent of cases currently in ICUs are not up to date with their COVID vaccinations. “Our priority is protection of our most vulnerable and vaccination is the way to do this.”

LADY IN PINK ... WANDERING ALONG SAXOPHONIST Lisa Wanderess serenaded vintage caravan owners from under the awning of her 1969 Viscount at the weekend. The wandering minstrel has spent the past three weeks at Bridgewater caravan park and timed her stay to coincide with the annual gathering of vintage van networkers. “It’s my third time being in Bridgewater for the gathering, catching up with friends and exploring the area,” she said.

“I’ll probably stay here a month all up this time,” said Lisa who originally hails from Queensland. She has been full-time on the road for three years, her 1971 Ford towing the caravan and all emblazoned in pink. While Lisa says pink is clearly her favourite colour, she’s found another local favourite. “How cool is Tarnagulla ... it’s like my dream town,” Lisa said. Lisa’s van was among scores of vintage vans in Bridgewater for the rally.
