THE LODDON’S strong social fabric was keeping local communities positive.
Active Farmers’ founder and outgoing chief executive officer Ginny Stephens gave the praise at the closing ceremony of Sunday’s Run for Resilience. Ms Stephens and other Active Farmers’ board members were in Bridgewater for the run that brought hundreds of participants from across local Loddon towns and the region.
Carloads of participants also ventured down from New South Wales for the run promoting roral community resilience and wellbeing. Ms Stephens said social fabric was a metaphor for how well community members interacted among themselves. She said an enhanced social fabric provided more and better interactions to help others in need “and keep the village positive ... and it’s incredible to see the strong social fabric here”.
Ms Stephens said the support in local communities after the tragic passing of Lesley Morrison last year was a sign of that strong fabric. The 5km course on Sunday was named Fitty’s Five in honour of Lesley with husband Scott Morrison being joined by many family members for the run. Lesley had been a member of Active Farmers and her enthusiasm for community volunteering was recognised throughout the morning by event organiser
Claire Harrison and other members of the local committee. And as a major event on the eve of National Volunteers Week, organisers also had support from St Mary’s Inglewood Primary School and Inglewood Fire Brigade. The spirit of community and its fabric was also backed up by Lesley’s mother Bernie Fithall who thanked the Inglewood and Bridgewater communities for “helping us get through”. Claire thanked her volunteers

who had marked out courses around Bridgewater for the 5km and 10km runs and from Inglewood where the 21km run had started in heavy fog on Sunday morning. “Run for Resilience is about helping our rural communities, bringing people together and becoming stronger,” she said. “After two COVID-foiled attempts to hold the run in 2021, we succeeded.”

Pub verandah back to court A BID to make safe the Royal Hotel Inglewood verandah is expected to return to court on Monday. A magistrates’ court hearing two months ago ordered the owner, Jika Jika Land Pty Ltd, to complete work within 60 days. Loddon Shire sought the order. The court-ordered deadline to complete work was yesterday. Barriers have surrounded part of the heritage building for almost two years. The company’s Stephen Prior has said the verandah will now be restored after earlier receiving conditional planning approval from council to remove the verandah.
