Marie and Trevor Ralph can now plan their retirement after four decades running the Inglewood post office

SALE MAIL

THE LINGERING CLOUD over the future of Inglewood’s post office has lifted after two years of uncertainty.

Long-time postmaster Trevor Ralph on Tuesday announced the sale of his postal agency. The sale comes more than three years after Mr Ralph first put his business on the market and several aborted sale offers.

Mr Ralph said new owners had completed Australia Post training, contracts had been signed and “we’re now looking forward to retirement”. Mr Ralph and wife Marie will officially hand over the business on July 1, ending more than 40 years as the Australia Post-appointed postmaster or licensed post office owner. They had originally planned

to retire more than 12 months ago and earlier this year Australia Post canvassed other options for the future of postal services in Inglewood. “Over the last three years, we have had multiple bites for the business and many false starts with offers made, withdrawn or falling over,” Mr Ralph said. “We’ve kept putting off retirement, hoping that the business could be sold - it’s a good business and the town has a

good future - but the time was coming (for retirement). “We’ve had many moments of disappointment as we have tried to sell but now with everything locked in, we can enter the next phase of our lives.” Details of the new owners will be released shortly. Meanwhile, it is understood an announcement may be close on the Tarnagulla licensed post office, on the market for the past year.

COLLEEN’S HUMBLED, HONOURED COLLEEN Condliffe was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours on Monday. The former Loddon Shire councillor has been recognised for service to the communities of the Loddon Mallee and to women. Colleen said she was humbled and honoured by the award. “This is a recognition of all the wonderful organisations and people in the Loddon,” she said. “Our ongoing journey of contributing to communities is about helping country people, making sure we are heard.” Colleen is a founding director of Inglewood and Districts Community Bank and has chaired the committee that hosted three Women on Farms Gatherings in the region in the past 30 years.
