$5.1m UPGRADE APPROVED
URGENT CARE FIX
URGENT and acute care hospital facilities at Inglewood will be upgraded in a $5.1 million project announced yesterday.
Inglewood and District Health Service CEO Dallas Coghill said the revamp would mean âefficient facilities, meeting current standards for the delivery of integrated health services for the needs of the communityâ. Mr Coghill said existing urgent care ward in a section of the original 1863 building, remodelled in the 1930s, was compromised by 21st century expectations and standards. âThe project will provide a greatly improved workflow and environment for the patients and staff alike,â Mr Coghill said. Improvements to the two-bed urgent care and eight-bed acute care facility would create a more integrated service putting less demand on the health system. The State Government announcement was welcomed by board deputy chair Anne-Marie Davis, Mr Coghill and clinical services director April McKenzie. âLocal patients will be able to receive more care in Inglewood and there will not
be the need to transfer patients to larger facilities in Bendigo,â Mr Coghill said. âThis will also reduce the demands on Ambulance Victoria as there are less preventable transfers across the region. The upgrade will provide a greatly improved workflow and environment for the patients and staff alike.â The hospital has been forced to use one acute care room for treating patients and since COVID, shared rooms have often been reduced to single use. âWe havenât been able to to operate at full bed occupancy. This project will see us return to have eight acute care beds able to be used at any time,â Mr Coghill said. Existing ambulance and pedestrian entrance to the building will be retained. Upgrade plans will see a contemporary clinical workstation with improved line of sight, improved amenities, a designated tea station for transitional care program patients and indoor and outdoor recovery areas. Mr Coghill said the State Government commitment to the upgrade was a welcome investment in the future of access of southern Loddon residents to local health services.

LH PHOTO âTowns like Inglewood, Bridgewater and Wedderburn are continuing to see an increase in population.,â he said. âWe will be able to delivery high quality health and primary care in the local community into future.â Yesterdayâs announcement by Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas comes just weeks after completion of a $2.6 million student accommodation and allied health precinct at Inglewood. Ms Thomas and Ripon MP Martha Haylett started their day of health announce-
ments visits across the region in Inglewood. They also said the Government would spend $2.6 million to deliver safer and standardised fire suppression systems at East Wimmera Health Service campuses in St Arnaud, Donald and Wycheproof. Ms Haylett said: âImproved facilities and systems in Inglewood and St Arnaud will ensure our hardworking rural health services can continue delivering personalised care in a safer and more comfortable workplace.â
