41 YEARS AMONG THE GUM TREES

EUCY VETERAN WORKS HIS LAST LEAF EUCALYPTUS oil industry veteran Des Lamprell has worked his final day as farm manager at Glenalbyn. Des officially retired last Friday after 41 years working and later managing the local properties owned by Bosistos where leaves from trees growing on more than 1500 hectares are harvested for distillation and oil production. He said the love of the outdoors had made the job all the more enjoyable, often working alone during tough years of drought. “I just love it out here - nature, the birds, the atmosphere,” Des said as he prepared for retirement. Bosistos’ chief executive officer Henry Minson said Des had been an important part of the company’s evolving operations, training and schooling staff in cutting and distilling. LH PHOTO
