Laidley Spring Festival 2019 Message from the Minister for Tourism Industry Development The Hon Kate Jones MP Welcome to the Laidley Spring Festival & Family Fun Day the perfect opportunity to celebrate the start of spring. This Festival has been at the heart of the Laidley community for close to six decades and offers visitors a taste of Queensland’s warm hospitality. This Festival is a perfect event for the whole family to enjoy, showcasing Queensland’s unique and authentic tourism experiences, while also supporting local jobs and boosting the local economy.
Destination Events Program and is a feature on the It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar. Congratulations to Lockyer Valley Regional Council and all those involved in delivering this fantastic event. I encourage you to take some time out to explore more of this beautiful region during your stay and come away with some great memories.

At the heart of the Lockyer Valley is our flagship event, the Laidley Spring Festival.
First time events to the festival include the Mulga Bullride, Historic Ghost Tour, the Spring Gem Show and the Australian Eagles Tribute Show. The “Australian Flora and Fauna” theme will also include a Street Parade at 10am on Saturday.
Once again, a host of community groups, organisations and associations have joined forces to bring this event to life for another year.
This event really does showcase the beauty of the Lockyer Valley, with the spring weather warming up to signify all things Festival-related.
Personally, partnerships play a real and important role in our Council and community so it is wonderful to see just what can be achieved when we work towards a goal that means so much to us all.
We proudly welcome visitors to the region for the 2019 Laidley Spring Festival and we truly hope you enjoy your time with us in the Lockyer Valley.
This year’s three-day event has an impressive 14 venues and events to pick from, including the annual Spring Orchid Show, Quilt and Craft Expo, Artists’ Exhibition church displays, arts and craft stalls, pop-up cafes, Colour Run and much more.

Laidley Spring Festival 2019 Laidley Cultural Centre Festival Information The Laidley Spring Festival is a fabulous three-day event for the entire family. For up-to-date Festival information, visit our website at www.laidleyspringfestival.com, Lockyer Valley Regional Council Facebook page or contact 5466 3426. Chat with our friendly volunteers at the Information Hot Spot (Saturday only), located near the stage at the Laidley Recreation Reserve from 9am - 3pm.
Free Shuttle Bus A free shuttle bus will run between the main venues throughout the Festival.
Laidley Village Shopping Precinct and Window Dressing Competition During the Festival, be sure to visit the stores in the Laidley Village Shopping Precinct and check out the window displays.
This year’s drop-off and pick-up points include the Laidley Cultural Centre, Laidley CBD (opposite the mall), Anglican Church (Ambrose Street), Das Neumann Haus, Uniting Church (Patrick Street), Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church Hall, Laidley Showgrounds and Laidley Pioneer Village & Museum. Please note the bus is not wheelchair accessible. Thursday/Friday – Buses depart every 30 minutes from 9am at the Laidley Cultural Centre, stopping at all stops. The last bus is at 4pm from stop 1. Saturday – Buses depart every 30 minutes from 9am at the Laidley Cultural Centre, stopping at all stops. The last bus will depart at 2pm from stop 1.
Showcasing the Festival theme - Australian Flora and Fauna - businesses have embraced all the things Aussie to fill their windows. Be sure to wander around and check out the windows as well as the eclectic range of items available from the Laidley Village.

Proud Lockyer Valley gardeners are opening their properties from 10am – 2pm, Thursday 12 – Saturday 14 September. Browse through the gardens, meet the owners and chat about how they have managed in the drought.
Most things are free, except for the Spring Orchid Show ($3) at the Laidley Cultural Centre and the Quilt and Craft Expo at the Laidley Uniting Church ($5). If you are staying for the weekend, you will be given a Frequent Flyer sticker that allows you “Jump the Queue” at these venues over the three days. Just look for the bali flags outside all the Festival venues!

FRIDAY ONLY Mulga Bullride Mulgowie Hotel, Mulgowie (camping available) The famous “Mulga Bullride” this year joins the Laidley Spring Festival lineup for the first time. Come along for a night of bull-riders testing their mettle and skills against some fiery beasts. Laidley Spring Festival 2019 THURSDAY ONLY - Under 5’s Event Building Bright Futures for the Lockyer 232 Patrick Street, Laidley The Together4Lockyer, in partnership with the Laidley District State School will provide this unique and special event for the Festival. Families with children aged 5 years and under are welcome to explore a range of activities suited to small children including arts and craft, face painting, an animal
nursery, music, games, story times and emergency service displays including a fire truck, police car, SES boat and ambulance. For the grown-ups there will be information stalls and a “Pop-Up Health Clinic”, with experienced health nurses available for short consultations and questions. Free entry with bus drop-off and pick-up available.

The Lockyer Valley Art Society will once again interpret the theme of the Festival as only they can. Held at the Lutheran Church Hall, the theme ‘Australian Flora and Fauna’ is like a blank canvas for this talented group.

Each year it is a delight to see the individual interpretations of the theme, reflected in a variety of mediums, with each telling a different story.

SATURDAY ONLY Family Fun Day – Saturday 14 September - Laidley Recreation Reserve. The last day of the Festival is packed full of entertainment and family fun. At the Laidley Recreational Reserve, from 9am – 3pm, enjoy music, reptile shows, face painting, craft activities, markets and more. Be fascinated by The Magical Oz Family, plus this year we bring you LASER TAG! Challenge your mates - or your parents - to a game of Laser Tag. Geckoes Wildlife is back too so you can cuddle with a lizard.
The Parade will showcase stunning decorative floats, as well as heritage trucks, vintage vehicles, community groups, schools, businesses and bands.

Australian Eagles Tribute Show One of the feature events of the Laidley Spring Festival is the entertainment line up and this year is no exception. Sit back and relax at the Laidley Recreation Reserve and listen to the best of the Eagles with the Australian Eagles Tribute Show, along with some great local bands.
Meet your favourite Super Hero in the giant games area. It could be Spiderman, Wonder Woman or Batman.
Sing along to Hotel California, Life in the fast Lane, Take it to the Limit, Take it Easy and many, many more classic Eagles hits.
New for 2019 is the Wine Bar and Craft Beer Tent, featuring 2nd2none Winery and 4 Brothers Brewing. This tent will showcase wine and craft beer from Toowoomba region, plus local singer songwriters and the fRETfEST@fORRIE program.

Street Parade A highlight of the stellar program will be the Spring Festival Street Parade, in Patrick Street kicking off at 10am on Saturday 14 September.
Das Neumann Haus
Built by German immigrant Hermann Neumann in 1893. The house has been restored to its former condition, refurnished in the style of the 1930s and is open to the public as a house museum.
Come and join us for a night of interactions with the ghostly residents of The Old Britannia Hotel and Das Neumann Haus in Laidley. The Old Britannia is well known by many locals and ex-staff for some very scary and mysterious encounters with its ghosts, both day and night. This 129-year-old beauty has many stories to tell, and that she certainly does. The tour starts at 7pm with bookings at katieharvey.paranormal@gmail.com or on Facebook at Katie Harvey Paranormal.

Laidley Spring Festival 2019 Laidley Cultural Centre 3 Laidley Plainland Road, Laidley The Laidley Cultural Centre is your first stop after leaving the Warrego Highway and arriving at the Festival. Home to the Spring Orchid Show, the Botanical Café, floral displays and market stalls, entry to the centre is free and the café’s homemade goodies (and bathrooms!) are too good to pass up.
Have a relaxing break at the Botanical Café and enjoy homemade goodies, sandwiches, tea and coffee, lovingly prepared by the Kentville State School P&C. Once you are refreshed, don’t miss the Spring Orchid Show in the auditorium for only $3 entry. From the delightful Vandas through to the magnificent Cymbidiums – they will delight and enthral even the most passionate orchid lover.
Make your way to the top function room, home of the Botanical Café, to view the beautiful display of Floral Art and the delightful “Flora & Fauna” feature, presented by members of the Laidley Garden Club.
The range of colours on display is like a magic carpet and yes, there will be plants for sale again this year. You will need to be quick though as they tend to sell out early in the Festival.
Set amongst magnificent displays of foliage and plants, there will be lots of plants for sale at the stalls with keen gardeners on-site to chat with you about all things in the garden.

This historic house museum and cafe opens each day of the Festival and offers a special pancake menu from 9am – 3pm. There are market stalls, music and more in the gardens outside – it is a great place for the family to have a break in between venues.
Step back in time and experience how things were done in the pioneering days of the Lockyer Valley. As soon as you walk through the main gate, you will be fascinated by the old shops and buildings, the working blacksmith, the old school house and more. Morning tea and lunch is available under the welcome shade at the venue.
Relax to music by Vintage Gold on Friday and Saturday while the kids enjoy the playground and the shade of the Jacaranda tree. Entry to the museum is totally free!

Church Floral Displays Laidley Redeemer Lutheran Church 7 MacGregor St, Laidley The Laidley Redeemer Lutheran Church presents ‘Biblical Flora and Fauna’. Browse the church and floral displays, craft and plant stalls. Relax with a free cuppa, with sandwiches and desserts available to purchase!
Starting with a couple of tables in one room, now the whole complex is filled to capacity with demonstrators and stall holders. To walk into the church filled with quilts and fine arts is a sight to behold. The Courtyard Café offers country cooking, with bookings for large groups preferred. Market stalls, vintage vehicles and more are on offer.
There is ample coach parking at the front of the venue. This church is always a pleasant surprise with a shuttle bus stop right outside.
The church is very appreciative of the community getting behind the expo and giving time to volunteer to continue to make this event possible.

St Saviours Anglican Church Ambrose St, Laidley This is a stop worth making. The historic church is open each day of the Festival for browsing. The church community has a market stall on Saturday at the Make It, Bake It, Grow It Markets in William Street so be sure to stop off there as well.

Spring Gem Show Celebrate 50 years with the Gatton Lapidary Club at the Spring Gem Show by checking out the displays of local rocks, fossils and jewellery created from local gems. Mum and Dad can relax and enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the kids learn about local rock, how to identify fossils, or make their own special ‘pet’ to take home.

The Laidley Uniting Church Craft group started in 1984 when a very talented lady moved to the area, joined the congregation and formed the group. This was the beginning of the famous Quilt & Craft Expo that has made its place in the Laidley Spring Festival for 35 years.
