Jersey values high standards of education and offers a range of schools across the Island. Children are offered a school place at the beginning of the school year in which their fifth birthday falls. There are three types of schools in Jersey: • Free States of Jersey schools • Fee-paying States of Jersey schools • Private fee-paying schools

The education system The Jersey Curriculum is designed to ensure children and young people grow and learn as well educated citizens of our Island and the world. It is based on the National Curriculum in England, adapted to reflect both our Island’s unique heritage and environment and the needs of the local economy. At Primary school level, Nursery and Reception pupils are assessed using the Jersey Foundation Stage Profile. In Years 2 to 6, the progress that pupils make is assessed by teachers every term, including a CAT test in Year 5. At Secondary school level, assessments can include CATs, GCSEs, AS and A2s, the International Baccalaureate and vocational qualifications such as BTECs and GNVQs. Education in Jersey PRE-SCHOOL/NURSERY Jersey has a range of private and pre-school nurseries. Highlands - 6th Form College Jersey

Hautlieu differs from the other non fee-paying secondary schools in Jersey, in that students must meet specific criteria before being eligible for application to attend the school. Students can enter Hautlieu at Year 10 (GCSEs) or Year 12 (A-Levels or International Baccalaureate Diploma). Entry at Year 10 requires a mean Cognitive Ability Test (CAT) score of 109 or more and a score of least 100 in both the English and Mathematics progress assessments taken by all Year 9 students in States of Jersey Schools. (Students from other schools and eligible offIsland applicants should contact Hautlieu so that arrangements can be made to sit these progress assessments).

The 6th Form College Jersey offers highlevel technical and vocational courses for young people who are qualified to progress to advanced level learning, as well as further general education courses for school leavers to develop skills and attributes required for future progression.
