Grandma Cheryl’s Cookie’s
FLOUR-DUSTED HANDS, FULL HEARTS, AND CHRISTMAS JOY

Our family’s sugar cookie tradition began 30 years ago with our Grandma Cheryl, and it’s been a cherished part of our lives ever since. Every year, on the day after Thanksgiving, the women of the Harris family gather in the kitchen to carry it on. It’s our way of kicking off the holiday season together with flour on our hands, laughter in the air, and the comforting scent of sugar and vanilla filling the house.
We still use Grandma Cheryl’s original handwritten recipe, worn soft from decades of use. The ingredients are simple, but the memories we make are priceless. We take turns mixing the dough, rolling it out, and cutting shapes with the same cookie cutters Grandma used. Each cutter, from stars and trees to bells and snowmen, all reminders of holidays past.
When the cookies come out of the oven, we gather around the table to decorate. Bowls of colorful frosting and sprinkles cover every inch, and laughter fills the room as we compare our creations. Some are beautiful, others are messy, but every one of them carries a little piece of our hearts.
Before the day ends, we pack up the cookies to share with family and friends. It’s more than a baking day it’s a time for connection, storytelling, and honoring Grandma Cheryl’s legacy. For the Harris women, sugar cookies mean love, laughter, and family.
Sugar Cookie Cutouts
| 1 cup butter, softened | 1 cup sugar
| 1 egg, beaten
| 1 tablespoon of milk
| 1 teaspoon of vanilla
| 2 1/2 cups flour
| 1 teaspoon baking powder | 1/2 teaspoon salt
1. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add milk, egg, vanilla, and beat again.
2. Add flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
3. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Roll 1/8” thick and cut out.
4. Bake @ 350° on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet, 5-7 minutes.
5. Cool completely before removing from parchment paper.
6. Decorate using a standard royal icing made with gel food coloring.

PLAY SAFETY TIPS
Biking injuries are the leading cause of ER visits for children ages 5–14. Helmets reduce severe brain injury risk by 88%, yet fewer than half of children consistently wear them.
Dress Smart: Wear closed-toe shoes that stay securely on feet. Avoid headphones to stay alert to traffic & surroundings.
Ride Right: Always ride with traffic, staying to the far right. Obey traffic signals.
Be Seen: Wear bright or reflective clothing to increase visibility when in low light. Stay Alert: Teach kids to make eye contact with drivers before crossing streets. This ensures they are seen!
Check Equipment: Make sure bikes are the right size, brakes work properly, & tires are inflated.
