Moss Industrial Estate encourages tenants to cycle to work Businesses from Moss Industrial Estate were invited to get a free service for their bikes last week thanks to Cheshire Cycles.

The independent cycle repair service, based in Warrington, received a grant from Cycling UK to offer free Dr Bike services to local businesses. The Employees on Moss Industrial Estate, St. Helen’s Road in Leigh, were keen to take part.

The first session on Thursday 11th March was fully booked and Cheshire Cycles are hoping to offer bike servicing to its tenants again in the near future.

Moss Industrial Estate, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2020, is keen to promote sustainable travel to its tenants as part of its long-term sustainability goals.

Cheshire Cycles has been offering “Dr Bike” services and providing a high-level workshop service since 2013.

The scheme was set up to promote cycling to everyone as a lifestyle choice because it has huge benefits for the environment as well as to individual health and wellbeing.

Neill Wood, Managing Director of Moss Industrial Estate, said: “We are really pleased to be working with Cheshire Cycles to give our tenants and their employees the opportunity to access a high-quality bike service completely free of charge.

“We want to encourage more of our tenants to cycle to work but we're also very fortunate to have Pennington Flash right on our doorstep which makes the perfect lunchtime circuit for those who can’t commute but would still like to bring their bikes to work to improve their own health and wellbeing.”

David James, Corporate Manager for Cheshire Cycles, said: “Having been a lifelong cycling enthusiast and active in the industry for most of my working life, I am really keen to promote the vast benefits of pedal power over horsepower.

“Cycling to work” has huge benefits. Fewer cars means less requirement for space; better time keeping means staff do not have to rely on public transport or get caught up in heavy traffic; plus better productivity as studies show regular cyclists are 25% less likely to be absent due to illness.

“Dr Bike” offers local businesses and councils a one stop shop for their employees to have their bikes serviced at their premises in a relaxed and friendly environment without the need to make adjustments to their normal schedule.
