HAND DELIVERED TO LOWTON AND GOLBORNE HOMES
Welcome to the August issue of Local Living It’s been a long road, but freedom is finally on the horizon. Most restrictions are finally being lifted, and it is beginning to feel like life is starting to go back to normal. Well, as normal as it can feel in this heat! We here at Local Living hope that all our readers are finding ways to keep cool this summer, despite how challenging the weather is trying to make it! In this issue, we have a bunch of articles highlighting local stories, including a fundraiser for breast cancer charity Cop-
paFeel. Be sure to check them out! We encourage everyone to donate if they can, as breast cancer will affect 1 in 7 women (and 1 in 100 men!) in the UK alone, and every penny raised goes towards CoppaFeel’s awareness and education campaign. This is an important cause that is close to our hearts, and we hope bringing some attention to the story in this issue can do some good. As always, if you have a story you think should be highlighted, please don’t hesitate to get in touch! We love to showcase local heroes, and would love to be able to help even more get the recognition they deserve in our community! We hope you enjoy this month’s issue.
Love, The Joneses x

Local Woman Joins Cancer Charity Fundraiser Golborne & Lowton local Shelley Benbow, will be teaming up with Giovanna Fletcher and Emma Willis to trek the Scottish Highlands in September for the breast cancer awareness charity, CoppaFeel! Shelley was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2014 at the age of 33 after finding a lump in her right breast. She discovered the charity mid-treatment and decided she wanted to use her story and experiences in a positive way to help others and has been a volunteer boobette for the past 7 years. Along with the celebrities and around 100 others, Shelley will be taking on the once in a lifetime adventure mid September. The 'Come Fly with Gi' team will be camping, trekking 100km and climbing in the Scottish Highlands for 5 days, tackling some of the most challenging sections of the Rob Roy way and climbing to the summit of one of Scotland's highest mountains, Ben Lawers (1,214m) to raise money for CoppaFeel! and the wonderful life saving work they do. To help with her fundraising target, Shelley is doing a raffle throughout August with some amazing prizes from local businesses such as Benny & Moo, Boxilicious, Foxy Yoga, Glamour Point, Glo2Go by Jen, Hair & Beauty by Lauren Sophie, Imperial Court, J'adore Beauty, Kenyon Hall Farm, Little Pot Houseplants, Louise & Co, Michaela Jayne Photography, Mrs Mop, Quality Home Improvements, Sam Rigby Flowers, Six Seven Twenty, The Replenishery, Travellers Rest & Xtreme Nutrition, Lowton Cake Company. If you would like to make a donation or take part in the raffle, please visit https://coppafeel.enthuse.com/pf/shelleybenbow-2a7f4/post/715233 or contact Shelley on Facebook. If you would like to find out more information about the charity, you can read more about what they do by visiting https://coppafeel.org/ or get free monthly boob checking reminders by texting BOOBS to 70300

Local Care Home Recognised for Care Service Awards Elmridge Court Extra Care Estate has recently been recognised by the Wigan Hospice Service for two awards, exemplifying their excellent care and compassionate staff. The Most Innovative Care Setting Award recognises hospices for embracing the fundamental elements of good end-of-life care within an extra care setting, and for consistently demonstrating compassionate, personcentred care. It was commented that Elmridge Court consistently goes above and beyond expected to give residents the best experience possible in their final months, weeks and days. If that were not impressive enough, Service Lead Kim Jackson was also awarded the Manager of the Year award for her exemplary care. The award is a reflection of her efforts, as well as the excellent teamwork from her dedicated and professional staff. Elmridge Court is a beautifully landscaped estate offering 1 and 2 bed apartments with a wide range of shared facilities including a residents' lounge, hobbies room, hair salon, guest room and a laundry, plus a useful on-site shop. The entire site is wheelchair accessible, and has convenient access to local shops, transport links and amenities.
