LOWTON WI Our speaker this month was Ian Dale, son of one of our members. Ian is a retired police officer who worked for GMP for many years as a dog handler, we also welcomed retired police dog Milo, during his working life, Milo was trained to seek out explosives and along with Ian and was involved in the Manchester arena bombing investigation. Ian gave a very interesting insight into the training of the dogs, how various breeds are used for different roles and the bond and trust that develops between dog and handler. It was lovely that Ian brought along his awards and certificates that he and his trusted friends of which there had been a few over the years, had been presented with over a 29 year career. Our next meeting on the 3rd September will be celebrating Lowton WI’s 58th birthday, our speaker on this special evening will be John Stirling with a talk titled ‘Born in a Hamper’. For anyone interested in joining and would like to arrange a visit, please phone Val Barrow on 07419335330. All visitors will be made very welcome. From its inception more than 60 years ago, the Kumon Method of Learning has been performed using carefully designed paper worksheets and a pencil, allowing students across the world to develop their reasoning and independent study skills, page by page. These worksheets have gradually evolved from those that were originally created by maths teacher and parent, Toru Kumon who specifically designed them to help develop his son’s confidence and ability. He incorporated small step, independent learning and daily practice into his method which has remained this way,until today. After many years of delivering academic success using paper worksheets, Kumon has recently announced that through a new innovation, the Kumon worksheets are now available in a digital format via the new KUMON App, making Kumon’s tried and tested worksheets even more accessible and convenient for students to study using their tablet and stylus.
