Welcome to the July Issue of Local Living WOW What a month its been since our last edition! Golborne Carnival was absolutely amazing , massive thanks to the organisers , checkout the photographs in our centre pages— if you missed it this year don’t worry it will be even bigger next year. Then we had the extra long Bank Holiday Weekend celebrating Our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and wow didn’t you guys party in style! We have had so many photos sent in thankyou so much. AIM Northwest are collecting school uniform checkout their details on page 4. SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST kills approximately 100,000 people a year in the UK. Little Angels Day Nursery have had a DEFIB attached to the outside of the pre-school and out of school building on Silcock Street , Golborne access is available for the whole community see the photograph on page 10 for the location. So much more to tell you but not enough space! So sit down with a brew and have a read. We love to feature community photos of everything that’s going on in the community, and we can’t wait to see yours!

Golborne House plea for help Golborne House put a plea out on Facebook for some plants to be donated to brighten their garden for the Jubilee Party weekend. Mark Sambrook from MLS Gardening Services came to their rescue and donated compost and plants.

Slimming World Crowned their Man of the Year 2022 Damien Wallwork joined Slimming World with Vicki Jones in February 2021, whilst the sessions were virtual. Vicki said “From the moment he joined he gave it his absolute all” Damien loves to cook and immediately set about creating some fabulous meals, in true Damien style he set up a Facebook page and there the story began. First up was The BEST doner meat & chips showing us all how to create it for ourselves. He wowed us week after week with his culinary skills, go watch for yourself D’s Diner with over 11000 followers. Once the real life groups reopened Damien attended on a weekly basis achieving his target weight with a loss just under 2 1/2stone. Alongside working full time and filming all the meals he made, he also brought his Mum Marie to group and by batch cooking for her and her husband Bill he also helped Marie achieve her Target weight too. Slimming World is made up of three parts : Food Optimising , IMAGE Therapy and Body Magic

Damien smashed the food optimising making his and his partners favourite meals in a really healthy way , he stayed to group every week giving so much support to other members in IMAGE Therapy and as he got closer to target he started the Body Magic part by forgetting the Couch to 5k part and going straight out for a 5k run. His total commitment throughout saw him voted as Man of the Year 2022 by members from my other sessions as well as his own group! The icing on the cake came in April happy at his target weight on holiday , he was interviewed by a film crew and you can watch it for yourself on Channel 5— The Cruise, Sunday nights at 9pm! Don’t bin DONATE! Kerry Bamber from AIM Northwest is organising a collection of school uniforms. This year as people are feeling the pinch, cost of living is rising, uniform costs for the new year are a worry for a lot of families. I’m looking to do a collection of used uniforms and PE kits from the following schools (must be in good condition and reusable) so that any families who need help can order the sizes they need via an online platform where the donations will be uploaded to order from a shop free of charge saving any worry people may feel about asking for help. Jubilee weekend in Lowton & Golborne Harvey Lane residents had a fabulous time at their street party, singing and dancing. One lucky street in Lowton even saw the Red Arrows fly over ;-0 when they held their street party as you can see on the front cover!! Norwood Ave were the lucky ones with the good weather too and they enjoyed some party games

Little Angels Day Nursery We would like to say a HUGE thank you to the parents, carers, friends and families of Little Angels Day Nursery who have supported us over the last twelve months to raise the money so we could have a DEFIB installed at our Silcock Street site. Money was raised through various fundraising events and also donations from Extreme Nutrition & Iconic Fitness and also Link Auto's. Having a DEFIB fitted is something that we had wanted for a number of years but was delayed due to the pandemic. We received support from AED Donate to raise the money and have the DEFIB installed externally so it can be accessed by the wider community and have 24hour access should it ever be needed.
Lowton WI What a party it was! Lowton WI celebrated the Queens Platinum Jubilee in style with their very own indoor street party. Our members enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea, some had a glass of bubbly to celebrate, followed by party games including Pass the Parcel and a very appropriate Pin the Crown on the Queen! This was accompanied by music from the era, everyone came dressed up, there were even one or two tiaras on show, a grand royal time was had by all. Lowton WI meet at 7.15pm on the first Thursday of the month at Lowton Social Club on Newton Road. If anyone is looking for a new interest, please think about coming to join us, our meetings are very informal and friendly, we have regular and varied speakers so there is something of interest taking place each month. Gemstone Cheer & Dance
Our club Gemstone Cheer and Dance based on Chapel Street in Leigh have had huge success at a Cheer City competition in Loughborough this month. Winning 4x first places and 2x second places. In addition our Rubies Mini Pom Dance team consisting of 10 local girls from Lowton/Leigh & Abram aged 810 years old took first place, Grand Champions (highest scoring team of the day) and have since been told they qualified to compete at the Allstar World Championship Event in Florida next year. (May 2023).
