Welcome to the April Issue of Local Living Welcome to the April issue of Local Living! This month, after several months of trial runs, we’re excited to finally announce the launch of our Ashton-in-Makerfield edition! Rolling out this month to an additional 4000 houses, the Ashton Local Living will contain even more local businesses - big and small - and cover even more local news. Our team on the front cover from left to right — Katie, Lauren, Vicki, Jessica & Molly. But that’s enough about that - let’s talk Lowton and Golborne! This month’s magazine has a bunch of amazing local stories, including a look at the team of volunteers fixing up Golborne Park into what will hopefully be a beautiful Community Orchard. Building Up ‘The Bonc’! For the last few months, enthusiastic volunteers have been working with Golborne & Lowton VOICE to plant fruit trees in Golborne Park, setting up the beginning of what will hopefully be a beautiful community orchard! Forum Chair Alan Percival teamed up with local kids from Golborne St Thomas School’s ECO Group, as well as heaps of local volunteers, to fill the 9 acre park with trees supplied by City of Trees - but they’re not done yet! Lowton WI Our speaker on the 3rd March was Julie McKeirnan who told the story of the history of Leigh Grammar School, it was a very informative and entertaining evening which all our members enjoyed. For many of our ladies it brought back vivid memories of their own school days. We also celebrated International Women's day, by holding a charity event, proceeds from this will be sent to a local Women's charity. Our next meeting in April has a gardening theme, very appropriate to welcome in the Spring and as Easter is just around the corner we are adding a bit of fun and imagination to the evening by holding a Easter bonnet parade.
It is lovely to see so many crafters attending our craft group, as well as our Nibble and Natter group, baking and sampling lovely home made cakes. If anyone is thinking of joining Lowton WI and would like to arrange a visit, please phone Val Barrow on 07419335330
