Leigh Judo Club Celebrates Major Milestones and Medal Wins

Leigh Judo Club is celebrating a standout month of success, with major achievements on and off the competition mat.

The award-wining club based in Lowton, recently saw over 30 members progress to their next judo grades a proud moment for its growing community. Each promotion reflects hours of focused training, discipline and development, showing the strength of the club’s coaching and culture.

A highlight of the month came from senior member April Edwards, who achieved her black belt (1st Dan). Starting judo as an adult, April’s path has been defined by consistency and hard work. After winning 10 Dan grade contests and securing the full 100 competitive points, she reached a milestone many only dream of. April’s success is a powerful example that it’s never too late to take up a new challenge and succeed.

On the competition scene, Leigh Judo Club athletes made a strong impact at the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Championships, returning with an impressive medal haul: 3 golds and 2 silvers.

The standout performer was 14-year-old Frantisek Beran, who dominated his division to win two gold medals after he was moved up categories. He faced significantly older and heavier opponents but came out on top through determination, skill and composure.

The club’s medal winners also included:

• Ryan Green – Gold

• Aras Alinazari – Silver

• Ethan Ariss-Hayes – Silver

In one of the most exciting moments of the event, the final was an all-Leigh showdown between Ryan Green and Aras Alinazari, with Ryan taking gold. Their performances saw them defeat every other competitor in the category.

Club Coach Luke Brown said: "This has been a fantastic few weeks. These achievements reflect the hard work being done on the mat every day. April’s black belt, the grading success, and the medal wins show the strength of our community and the opportunities available for anyone willing to put in the work. It really shows what our club is about progress, commitment and community”

Leigh Judo Club offers classes for children, teens and adults of all levels. Whether you're aiming to build fitness, gain confidence, compete, or just try something new- the club welcomes new members.

Dog First Aid Cheshire

Lorraine from Dogs First Aid Cheshire offered some great advice for our dogs in hot weather. She said “We’ve all been enjoying the warmer weather recently, but it’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with what temperatures are safe for your dog.

Every year our vets treat hundreds of heat stroke cases and heartbreakingly , some end in tragedy. Many are unfortunately a result of owners not knowing the dangers of exercising their dogs in temperatures too hot for them to handle. Heat related illnesses are almost always preventable

DON’T TAKE THE RISK and make sure your pet isn’t overheating in the sun

If you think your dog maybe suffering from heat stroke , contact your vet immediately or , if out of hours, find your nearest emergency vet.”
