Happy New Year and welcome to the January issue of Local Living I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas however you have chosen to spend it. I wanted to send you a very hearty New Year’s wish from Local Living.

Not normally one for making New Year resolutions I have decided to buck the trend this year. My resolution is a very simple one; to spend more time with friends and family and not sweat the small stuff!

For 2021 I will most definitely be continuing to support all our wonderful local businesses!

As always please get in touch if you have any news, stories or events in the area and I will try and get as many as I can in the magazine and on the website.

We got through 2020 lets get set for a happy healthy 2021. 2020 has certainly been a year we wont forget ! When you walk into a Slimming World group, consultants promise they will never give up and will be there for you 52 weeks of the year. Despite everything this year Claire, Julie, Vicki and Helen have ! A virtual service was set up in the lockdown and now the transitions back into group are happening with lots of safety measures in place. We do start this year with news that our amazing Julie Woodward is leaving . Julie has been a consultant for over 13 year and in that time has helped 1000s of members. We wish Julie all the best for the future and would like to say a massive THANK YOU ! The Wednesday morning and Evening group will now be run by Claire.

“This year has been far from easy for all of us, with some people struggling more than others, but for lots of our members all of the challenges and anxieties have actually made them more determined than ever to achieve their goals and improve their health. They’ve proved anyone wanting to lose weight and feel healthier – which research shows could protect against disease – doesn’t have to give up on their dreams! Celebrated her 5 years as a Consultant in September and is a Mum to Lilly and Harry and "dog mum" to her rescue boxer, Marley. Who she enjoys taking for walks to Three Sisters. Food is a love of hers except for her infamous dislike for Mushy peas! "I can safely say I am looking forward to saying goodbye to 2020 and am excited to be saying hello 2021. Particularly as Ashton Achievers has a new "hub" home at the Congregational Church on Hilton Street. After seeing many of our members reaching their target during this incredibly difficult time, I am looking forward to welcoming new members and supporting them too in their weight loss dreams. Never has it been so important to be healthy, group provides the support to do this along with a giggle, usually at my expense, along the way!

This year, has been a consultant for 10 years. she is Mum to Hermione and loves crafts, long walks in the park and sewing (Her cooking hasn’t got any better in 10 years but she keeps trying ! ) “This year is going to be really exciting not only will I have my Tuesday Superstars to look after I will also have the Golborne Wednesday groups. My goal for this year is to help as many members as I can achieve their dreams. 2020 has been a difficult year for us all and the health of our community is so important. I promise to make groups safe and fun with bags of positivity and sharing.

I have been a consultant and a target member for over 10 years. I am married to David and we have 4 beautiful daughters who all help out with group. 2020 showed me how resilient my members are , they were quickly up to speed with virtual groups and when we returned to group they collected awards all the way up to 7stones I could not have been more proud. Keeping the weight off for all this time has opened up so many opportunities, 2020 and turning 50 saw me learning to ride a horse -crazy 2020 has been particularly challenging for all of us but it is my members that have kept me going as much as I’ve kept them going - when you get that call at tea time saying “I just wanted you to know I’ve got my chicken marinating” from a member who’s mum has dementia and dad is recovering from a heart attack a member who through 2020 couldn’t give her granddaughter a hug due to the risk of covid whilst caring for her elderly parents, a member who throughout all that has maintained her weightloss - group is a community and after a few stressful months looking for a new venue I am pleased to say from the 2nd January we will be in the heart of the community at Lowton Community Centre Church lane Lowton WA3 2RZ I want to thank my members for staying strong and staying committed to their weightloss journey and together we can achieve our dreams. Final tenant moves in to new Rivington Court development George Moss and Sons Limited is celebrating the completion of its Rivington Court development at Moss Industrial Estate.

Thirteen brand new, state of the art units, which range in size from 1,000 sq ft to 12,000 sq ft, have been completed on the industrial estate over the last eighteen months. The new units have accommodated existing tenants that have outgrown their old units as well as welcoming new tenants.

Auto Extract Systems Ltd, which specialises in local exhaust ventilation systems, are the final tenants to move into the brand-new industrial units on Walter Leigh Way, off St. Helen’s Road in Leigh.

Their move marks the completion of the third and final phase of building at Rivington Court, which located right in the middle of the industrial estate.

Auto Extract Systems Ltd first moved on to Moss Industrial Estate in 2008 after their former premises in Halifax were sold. Owner, Grant Gledhill, wanted to move the company, which he has owned since its incorporation in 2001, back across the Pennines nearer to his home city of Manchester.

In 2012, Grant took on a second unit on the estate and then added a third in 2019. Now, due to the development of Rivington Court, Grant has been able to merge his offices and move his rapidly growing business under one roof.

Auto Extract Systems Ltd is the UK’s leading dust filtration and fume extraction company. They help businesses to create pollution-free workplaces by providing design, installation, maintenance and certification services across a range of industry sectors.

Auto Extract Systems’ new premises is 12,000 sq ft, which has given it over a 100 per cent increase in total capacity and a 50 per cent increase in office space. This increased storage and warehouse space will enable it to significantly increase its production capability.

Grant Gledhill, managing director at Auto Extract Systems Ltd, said: “We’ve been looking forward to this move since plans were first announced for Rivington Court and we’re really excited that we’re now in.

“It’s been a difficult year but, fortunately, as we work for many key industries, such as the emergency services, food industry, hospitals and pharmaceuticals, the majority of our work has continued and we have just had to carry on as much as we can, despite the challenges of Covid.

“The business has grown significantly over recent years and I have also created two new companies off the back of it, which will enable us to design and manufacture our own products and be less reliant on imports.

This is something that we’ve been working for on for some time as it will enable us to be in control of our own supplies, which will be particularly valuable post Brexit. “Moss Industrial Estate is a great place to work. The site is really well maintained with lots of open green space. The Moss family has really supported us and our growth over the years. It’s a very secure and safe site with fantastic access to the motorway network and our markets in the UK and Ireland.”

Sebastian Moss, managing director at George Moss & Sons, said: “We are really pleased with our new development at Rivington Court. The final stages of the build were extremely challenging with the explosion of COVID 19, but I am proud of our team for adapting quickly and concluding the build with the same high standards and professionalism which we are renowned for.

“Auto Extract Systems is doing incredibly well and we are really pleased that we have been able to help them to merge their three existing units into a much larger premises with space to grow and develop their manufacturing and product design businesses too.”
