LOWTON WI

Lowton WI held their final meeting of 2024, which was our Christmas Party. Our members came along in their sparkles and Christmas jumpers to enjoy a hearty supper of hot pot or butter pie supplied locally by Taylors, this was followed by mince pies, chocolates and a healthy option satsuma.

While letting their supper go down, we had a quiz, followed by a game of Play your cards right which caused quite some excitement.

To close the evening, our President and committee gave an alternative version of the twelve days of Christmas before our ladies collected their Secret Santa gift on their way home. Many of our ladies again brought Christmas gifts which will be shared between the Wigan and Leigh Womens refuge and the Young Carers.

We look forward to 2025 when the first meeting will be on the Thursday 6th February at Lowton Social Club at 7.15pm. If any ladies are looking for a new interest in 2025 why not give the WI a try.

For further details and to arrange a visit phone Val Barrow on 07419 335330.

LOWTON CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON

Another fabulous attendance for the switch on of the Tree Lights at St Lukes Church. A massive thankyou to all the organisers. If you can help next year please get in touch, they are always grateful for helpers. It is all organised by volunteers.

Do you organise the light switch on in other areas of Lowton and Golborne? Please do send us your dates early October next year to be included in our magazine.

TUESDAY

English Karate Academy Shines at WUKF European Karate Championships in Poland

The English Karate Academy have returned home from the WUKF European Karate Championships in Poland with an impressive haul of 19 medals an extraordinary achievement for a team of just 13 competitors. The club train locally at Leigh Sports Village and also at their Dojo in Culcheth. Competing against the best in Europe, the EKA fighters showcased exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship, securing gold, silver, and bronze medals across both individual and team events. The results not only highlight the individual talents of the athletes but also underscore the strength of the academy's training programs and the dedication of its coaches.

"We are incredibly proud of what our athletes have achieved in Poland," said Sensei Aneliese Foxwell, Head Coach at the English Karate Academy. "To bring home 19 medals with just 13 competitors is an incredible feat and a testament to the talent, commitment, and teamwork within the academy. Every one of our athletes gave their best, and the results speak for themselves. I’m so proud of our team!"
