Thirteen Nominations and Three Awards

The Three Towns scooped two awards for their production of Die Fledermaus in May last year performed at St. Joseph’s Hall in Leigh: ‘The Best Comedy Duo’ awarded to John Matthias and Pamela Heywood-Connor and ‘Best Musical Director’ PhilBoardman.

Alsothesocietywontheawardfor ‘BestConcert’ in November which is always fully subscribed due to the popular variety of musical items. The North West Regional Awards Evening, with a Valentine theme was held by NODA (National OperaticandDramaticAssociation)attheLastDrop VillageHotel,Boltonon14thFebruary.Thetrophies were presented by Liz Hume-Dawson, the Regional Representative of NODA. The winners will be nominated forward to the NODA North West Awards night at the Kimpton Clock Tower Hotel, Manchester.

The Three Towns, and their Principals received thirteennominations intotalfortheir performance ofDieFledermaus.

At our last meeting on the 5th March , our ladies were treated to a most informative talk by Rhona Whiteford on how she became a self published author after having been a teacher . She started by writing educational books for infants and has gone on to publish numerous novels covering many genres . During our evenings we also have a raffle , tea and biscuits, and details of trips we are looking to go on . All are welcome to come along and see if it suits you . Our next meeting is on Thursday 2nd April and the talk is covering CPR a very worthy topic , and as it is Easter there will be cake! We are also holding a Coffee morning fundraiser for the North West Air Ambulance on the 2nd May in St Mary’s Hall on Newton Road

We have a cuppa, a chat, games and entertainment. Admission is free.

We welcome anyone who is alone, has health problems, or is a carer, or just someone who wants to join in. We are also dementia-friendly.

Wigan Council has nominated us for the King’s Award for Voluntary Service.
