Jackie and Amy started team Daughters Against Alzheimer's in 2023 and completed the Alzheimer's Society North York Moors 26 mile trek. We are 2 girls on a mission to raise awareness of Alzheimer's and Dementia. These are very personal challenges for both of us. Jackie’s mum currently living with Alzheimer's. Over the past few years she has lost the mum she knew, her mum no longer recognises her and needs help and care in every aspect of her life. Amy sadly lost her mum to dementia in March 2020. It is a cruel disease with no hopethere is no cure, just medication to slow it down. We are passionate about raising money for research to change this. We want to promise our children that they will never have to go through this with us but we can’t. We also want to raise general awareness about Alzheimer's and Dementia to make people more aware so we can all become more Dementia friendly. Alzheimer’s Society are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today and by providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding ground-breaking research.
In 2024
Jackie and Amy are returning with an armyDaughters Against Alzheimer's Army! 12 of our friends are joining us and we are tackling the 13 mile walk around Snowdonia on Saturday 29th June. Every step we take with your support is one step closer to finding a cure and one day having dementia survivors!
Thank you for reading our story.
We are grateful for any support and donations received. www.justgiving.com/team/ daughtersagainstalzheimersarmy

The theme for Lowton WI’s March meeting was chocolate. Many of our ladies very generously brought in Easter eggs which will be sent on to Wigan & Leigh Young Carers and The Refuge.
Continuing on the chocolate theme, we then enjoyed a demonstration from chocolatier Andrew Lloyd who showed us how to make delicious rum and raisin truffles. I know they were delicious because we all sampled them. Our next meeting is on Thursday 4th April we will be welcoming our speaker Moira Jones who will be talking about Golborne in Bloom.
Lowton WI meet on the first Thursday of the month at 7.15pm in Lowton Social club on Newton Road.
If any ladies out there are looking for a new interest and would like to arrange a visit.
