Welcome to the April issue of Local Living Well, it has been a crazy month!

With the end of lockdown finally on the horizon, we’re looking forward to Life After Lockdown! Check out our segment to get up to date and get excited. However, with the virus in mind, we’d like to offer a gentle reminder to still wear your masks and social distance where you can. Even though lockdown is ending, that doesn’t mean the fight to control Coronavirus is over yet, so please continue to be the kind and considerate people we’re proud to have in our community.

On a lighter note, this month we’re welcoming a whole bunch of new advertisers ready for the shift to postlockdown life, so please give everyone a good look we’re sure you’ll find something wonderful. If you’re a business in the area reopening after lockdown, we’d love to hear from you!

Thankyou to everyone who sent in their World Book Day pictures. And to everyone who has shown their support to our new venture either in person or on our Facebook page, it really means a lot!

The Red Lion invites you to The Lion’s Den We are opening our GARDEN ONLY on the 12th April, whilst we still have to run through the finer details opening hours, menus etc one things for sure we are looking forward to welcoming you all back - and showing off our Lions Den we have been working so hard on!

Our booking will open from the 22nd March (no sooner) where you can put your request in .. Please message on Facebook and I will get back to you as soon as I can .

Bookings will be allocated 2 /2.5 hours per table, , bookings are advised where possible.

Rule of six applies for all tables - with no furniture to be moved No need for a substantial meal but we will be offering a great food selection.

Once we have the finer details we will be sure to update.

Earth Day • Every year Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd..

• It’s held to raise awareness about a whole host of topics such as bee numbers, ice caps, ocean pollution, and conservation.

• The first Earth day was celebrate on April 22nd 1970.

• This year, Earth day will be celebrated for 3 days, 20th-22nd April. 3 days for Climate Action!

• To kick off our 2021 theme of Restore Our Earth, we will start by supporting our local communities, focusing on areas that are disproportionately affected by environmental issues.

• Send us your drawings for Earth Day and we’ll put them in next month’s mag.

• Let us know what you’re going to be doing this Earth Day!

St George’s Day The Feast of St George is traditionally celebrated on the 23rd April, the date he died in AD 303. St George’s Day is celebrated by various Christian Churches and by several nations, kingdoms, countries, and cities of which Saint George is the patron saint including England, Catalonia and Aragon.

Today, St. George’s day may be celebrated with anything English including morris dancing and Punch and Judy shows.

St George was famous for rescuing the Princess of Libya, from the fearsome dragon and slaying the dragon This St George’s day, why not have a go and create a paper plate dragon, just like St George defeated?

Party nights have been put on hold, but Claire and Vicki will still be celebrating their 10th anniversary as consultants and the Greatest Losers have been celebrating too!!

Vicki opened her Lowton group in January 2011, and the last 10 years of watching her members achieve their weight loss dreams has been amazing! “Having members join me and support me running my first marathon was awesome but nothing compares to seeing them meet there goals—be it fitting into their dream wedding dress or having the energy to play with their kids again.” Vicki has just crowned her Greatest Losers and between them they have lost over 30 stone!

Lianne, her 8am session winner, achieved her 8 stone award during lockdown WOW! “We will reopen in line with Step 3 of the Lockdown Roadmap in May, but that doesn't mean you have to wait until then to restart -you can join us virtually and be a dress size down by May!

Claire became a target member in 2009. On April 12th 2011 she opened her first group in Lowton & Pennington. “10 years has gone in a flash! I’m just blown away every week by the support and love members have for each other. We kept going through the pandemic & our little community is still going strong. I can’t thank them enough.”

Claire has recently taken over Golborne Heath Street groups on a Wednesday. “I can’t wait to meet all my Wednesday members in person, they have been so welcoming to me, we are hoping to be able to reopen wc 12th April 2021 which is exactly 10 years since I launched group, I’m hoping this is a positive sign of better days to come.”

Well it’s been a year now since Slimming World went virtual. One which has been a bit of a rollercoaster with Helen finding her Ashton groups a new home at the Congregational Church on Hilton Street in between lockdowns. Her ‘Greatest Loser’ members have celebrated with the virtual service, with one member, Colin, celebrating a fantastic 6 stone weight loss journey! Colin has carried on through lockdowns and a hospital stay due to operation. “He has kept us all smiling with his ever changing belt size!”
