I welcome the opportunity to move our clocks forward for Daylight Savings Time each Spring. Although we all lost an hour of sleep on a recent Saturday night this March, I always remind my kids what a significant moment it is… Summer is around the corner. For my school-aged children, they are thrilled at the prospect of late evening sunsets. Springing forward for Daylight Savings is also a sign that the end of their academic year is rapidly approaching, that always makes them happy.

Summer camps have been a big part of my kids' lives the past 15 years. This month’s issue provides a bevy of summer programs for your children to participate in this June and July. Even though my children have aged-out of most of the day camps, I still have fun designing my Summer Camp section to include pics of my own kids. I play a game of “Where’s Waldo” with my kin in the section. It’s a chance to keep my children eternally young. I guess it’s a little perk of owning my own publication. Check out our Summer Camp Guide this month for wonderful options for your own child.
Happy Easter to everyone. Thank you for being a dedicated reader of The Local DISH!

PARENTS & KIDS RAVE THAT AA4K IS THE BEST IN THE OC!
ACTING ACADEMY
THREE LOCATIONS!
Summer Camps
Theater kids (and parents) rejoice! Summer is right around the corner, and the award-winning Acting Academy for Kids (AA4K) has big news—they're raising the curtain on a third location for their popular summer musical theater camps for students ages 5 to 14—in Newport Beach!
Located at the Newport Theater Arts Center, just above the Mariners Mile neighborhood (near the Rusty Pelican), the new venue offers more than stunning views. Starting June 9, the new camp will run a 10-week schedule through August 15, mirroring the successful programs at its sister camps in Mission Viejo (Z Playhouse) and Irvine/Tustin (Lyceum Village). Visit ActingAcademyForKids.com for themes and camp details.
Competition Team Wins it All
The new camp comes on the heels of AA4K’s standout victory at Junior Theatre Festival West (JTF), led by the talented young instructors of the competition team, Mr. David and Miss Lily. In just their third year of competing, the 25-student team took home the prestigious All-Performance Group Award, standing out among more than 2,500 students!
with the teens gearing up for a full-scale production of Hadestown! The full-length musicals are a spectacular showcase of young talent and the culmination of an entire summer's hard work. Any level of experience is welcome!
Come "Z" Us at Z
Playhouse
Are you an adult with the acting bug? The Z Playhouse offered its first community theater season last year, performing Cabaret, Little Women, Young Frankenstein, and Rent. In April 2025, they will be producing Heathers, and the summer show will be Into the Woods, so get your tickets now! Interested actors may find audition details or buy tickets at Zplayhouse.org.
Looking for a laugh? The Z Playhouse sponsors a standup comedy show with Comedy in the OC monthly. Featuring well-known and up-and-coming names in show business, these standup shows are a first in Mission Viejo and a unique date night option.
Where to Find More
BY VICTORIA KERTZ
Their success earned them the honor of performing a condensed version of Shrek the Musical for all 10,000 attendees—an incredible opportunity for these young thespians. Additionally, Arthur Waite, age 9, of Aliso Viejo, won the coveted All-Festival Individual Performer award, a rare achievement for such a young student!
At JTF, Broadway elite watch and coach performers throughout a fun-filled weekend in Sacramento. AA4K co-founders Stephen and Maggie Zygo were thrilled with the results and look forward to expanding the competition team in the upcoming academic year.
Beyond the performances, JTF is a bonding experience for students and families alike. “Out of all the things we do,” says Stephen, “it’s the most collectively cohesive experience for families as they travel together, cheer together, and create lifelong friendships. I really couldn’t be prouder!”
So Much More Happening
At Z Playhouse in Mission Viejo, AA4K hosts two afterschool programs in addition to JTF that meet throughout the year, its full-scale youth musical theater series and AA4K Studios, its TV/Film Department. Currently, there are four casts of kids preparing for Disney’s Moana JR! The teen musical theater program is back on track for summer,
Registration is now open for aspiring actors ages 5 to 14 at all three summer camp locations. The 10-week program runs from June 9 through August 15, 2025 (with a four-day camp the week of July 4). With over 30 years of experience, founder Sabrina Phillips and her expert team have mastered the art of efficient, high-impact transformations—turning kitchens, bathrooms, and entire homes into stunning spaces in as little as two to four weeks.

Award-Winning Designs, Maximum ROI
Sabrina isn’t just an interior designer—she’s also a licensed general contractor and real estate expert. This unique skill set allows her to guide clients on where to invest and where to save, ensuring their remodel not
only looks stunning but also adds real value to their home.
Many of her clients have seen their home value increase by $40,000 to $450,000 after a remodel, proving that strategic design choices make a difference. “I know what catches a buyer’s eye,” says Sabrina. “If a renovation won’t deliver a strong return, I’ll be the first to recommend a better approach.”
Fast & Fabulous Remodels— No Compromises!
One of the biggest myths about remodeling? That it has to take months. Designing Women of OC shatters that expectation with lightning-fast turnarounds on kitchens, baths, and full-home makeovers. Thanks to a streamlined process and a skilled team of tradespeople, they deliver impeccable results without the long wait.
“We get in and out as quickly as possible, so you can get back to enjoying your home,” says Sabrina. “It’s all about making the process seamless, stress-free, and exciting.”
More Than Just Remodeling
Beyond home renovations, Designing Women of OC offers a full range of custom window coverings and draperies, adding the perfect finishing touch to any space. Their showroom is also a collaborative space for interior designers and contractors to explore high-quality materials with their clients.

SPRING BREAK RISKS YOU DIDN’T PLAN FOR –AND HOW TO HANDLE THEM
Spring Break is right around the corner, and whether you’re hitting the beach, heading to the mountains, or just enjoying the time off, there’s one thing most people don’t plan for accidents.
While we all expect a few sunburns and bad tan lines, most people don’t realize how spring break can be a legal minefield. And no, it’s not just about drunk drivers or crowded tourist spots, poorly maintained hotels, and distracted vacationers can all lead to injuries that aren’t your fault.
THE NOT-SO-OBVIOUS DANGERS OF SPRING BREAK:
Road Trip Risks: More cars on the road means more accidents, and not all of them are your fault. Rental cars, aggressive drivers, and out-of-towners who don’t know local traffic laws can put you at risk.
Hotel & Airbnb Hazards: Ever stayed somewhere with a shaky balcony, broken pool deck, or sketchy stairwell? If a property isn’t properly maintained, and you get hurt, you might have a case.
Pedestrian & Scooter Accidents: With more people flooding into vacation destinations, distracted driving and walking are at an alltime high. And those rentable scooters? Fun, yes. Safe? Not always.
Beach & Outdoor Mishaps: Whether it’s an unmarked rip current, a faulty rental jet ski, or an injury on a tour excursion, businesses that cut corners on safety can be held accountable when things go wrong.
WHAT TO DO IF AN INJURY RUINS YOUR SPRING BREAK:
Document Everything: If something happens, take photos, grab witness info, and save any paperwork.
Call a Lawyer, not just your Insurance: Many vacation-related injuries involve businesses, hotels, or other drivers who may try to avoid liability.
See a Doctor: Concussions, whiplash, and even minor fractures aren’t always obvious right away.
Spring Break is meant for memories, not medical bills. If something goes wrong, know your rights—and remember, you don’t have to deal with it alone.

SICKINGER ORTHOBIOLOGICS & REGENERATION
Sickinger Orthobiologics & Regeneration (SOAR) is transforming the landscape of orthopedics with a groundbreaking approach to nonoperative care. Led by an elite team of specialists, SOAR is pioneering a multidisciplinary strategy that combines cuttingedge orthobiologics, biomechanics, manual therapy, and dietary optimization to help patients delay, reverse, and even prevent the need for orthopedic surgery.
At the heart of SOAR’s mission is orthobiologics—a rapidly growing field that leverages natural, evidence-based treatments to accelerate healing and improve outcomes. Recognizing that the body must be addressed as a whole system, SOAR brings together three key pillars of care for comprehensive recovery and performance:
1. Dietary Optimization & Performance
Advanced-degree registered dietitians work closely with patients to use food as fuel for success. By gathering baseline data, tracking blood labs, and implementing targeted recovery strategies, they aim to reduce systemic inflammation and optimize performance. Customized meal plans ensure patients are moving in the right direction—toward faster recovery and longterm health.
3. Orthobiologics
2. Biomechanics and Manual Therapy
Doctorates in physical therapy and chiropractic focus on identifying and addressing root movement patterns to improve functional performance and prevent reinjury. Patients benefit from manual therapy techniques and innovative technologies, such as Shockwave and Red Laser treatments, to expedite healing and keep them doing what they love.
Board-certified sports medicine physicians deliver the highest standard of care with advanced procedures and injectable treatments, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), traditional prolotherapy, mesenchymal stem cells, ultrasonic tenotomy, and MSK ultrasound. All treatments are backed by evidence-based medicine and tailored to each patient’s needs.
Individually, each specialist contributes to better patient outcomes—but together, the SOAR team takes nonoperative orthopedics to new heights. With innovation, collaboration, and a holistic approach, the future of orthopedic care has never looked brighter.
