First Class Retirement Living At Sandford Station
Nestled at the foot of the Mendip Hills, Sandford Station is a rural retirement village set in twelve acres of beautiful North Somerset countryside.
With the former Sandford and Banwell railway station as its focal point, the beautifully landscaped site has a range of purpose-built one, two and three bedroom apartments.
Each self-contained apartment has been created to blend practicality with ease of living. Wide doorways open onto generous hallways to allow easy access to the light and airy interiors. Clever floorplans include design features that make the best use of space, such as the twin doors of a Jack and Jill bathroom to create en-suite facilities. Storage has not been overlooked with built-in wardrobes and closet space throughout.
Step outside your apartment and become part of a friendly and welcoming community where you’ll have the opportunity to expand your social circles and explore new interests and hobbies. Sandford Station really does offer the best of both worlds – on-site amenities and activities so you can enjoy a full and active retirement; yet peaceful enough for those days when you just want to sit back and enjoy the tranquillity of the birds singing in the nearby apple orchards.
Sandford Station is owned and operated by the St Monica Trust, a Bristol-based charity providing accommodation, care and support for older people in Bristol and the surrounding areas. Across all of our retirement villages and care homes we are committed to communities where older people flourish by providing opportunities for our residents to enjoy treasured relationships, exercise choice and feel valued.

Cheddar Vale Lions Club. An Awesome Event in
Cheddar Gorge on August Bank Holiday Monday
Cheddar Vale Lions Club will be holding their annual Duck Races on August Bank Holiday Monday, 26th August. The Duck Race tickets are now available with a selling point on our website and a QR Code on the posters, we aim to gain support from our community and visitors. All our regular visitors will be delighted to return plus more to watch the spectacle of 1,000 ducks floating down the river. The cheers were phenomenal last year with the children loving it as always.
As per previous years, a major part of the funds raised will be donated to Children’s Hospice SW and the remainder to aid our work in the Cheddar Valley community. We have 2000 tickets to be sold, 1,000 for each race but don’t delay, they go quickly.
The ducks will be checked and counted before the day to make sure they are in good condition for the races thanks to Hanson’s helping us to purchase new ones in 2022!
The event is always popular, and the crowds join in the fun. We thank everyone for the fantastic support over the years and helping us to keep the Children’s Hospice going with the amazing work they do.

Back to School Cooking Tips from OvenGleamers – your local premium oven cleaning company
1. Batch Cook – once a week prepare all the week’s meals in one monster cookathon. Use a theme to help you:
a: Roast chicken can become chicken curry, chicken & sweetcorn topped jacket potatoes and chicken stir-fry.
b: Use mince for spaghetti bolognaise, lasagne and tacos.
c: Roasted vegetables make great fajitas, veggie pasta and vegetable curry.
2. Freeze sandwiches ahead for packed lunches – avoid soggy contents & salad – add these as extras on the day. Great fillings include Ham and cheese, Turkey, cranberry & brie, Tuna & sweetcorn (go light on the mayo) and Chicken & cream cheese.
3. Up your 5-a-day: Add fruit/vegetables to every meal: bananas at breakfast, grapes & apples / carrot sticks & cherry tomatoes in lunchboxes and side salad / fresh fruit salads with dinner.
4. Keep on top of looking after your cooking appliances by having a regular professional oven clean every few months. In between cleans use oven liners to catch spills or use them as non-stick liners in your roasting tins and on your baking trays (saves loads of time on the washing up)
5. De-grease the BBQ before you put it away for the winter – ensure all racks and surfaces are fully clean to avoid mould build-up over the storage period.
For all your back-to-school oven cleaning call Graham Rogers at OvenGleamers on 01934 440032
Did You Know We Also Help With Commercial Mortgages?
When most people think of a mortgage broker, they typically associate us with residential mortgages. However, did you know that we also help with commercial mortgages? Whether you’re a startup, expanding business, or a seasoned enterprise seeking to refinance, we’re here to guide you through the diverse landscape of commercial mortgages.
Commercial Investment Mortgages
If you’re looking to invest in commercial property to lease out to other businesses, a commercial investment mortgage might be the right fit. These mortgages are tailored for properties purchased for investment purposes, such as office buildings, retail spaces, and industrial units. Lenders assess the potential rental income and your ability to service the debt when considering these types of mortgages.
Commercial Development Mortgages
For businesses planning to develop a new commercial property or significantly refurbish an existing one, commercial development mortgages are available, providing the necessary funding for construction projects and are typically offered in stages, matching the development progress. This ensures that funds are available as needed while keeping interest costs manageable.
Bridging Loans
In situations where quick financing is required, bridging loans serve as a short-term solution. These are often used to secure a property quickly or to bridge the gap between the sale of one property and the purchase of another. Although they come with higher interest rates due to their short-term nature, they provide vital flexibility for businesses needing immediate capital.
Refinancing and Remortgaging
Businesses may also benefit from refinancing or remortgaging existing commercial properties. This can help reduce monthly payments, release equity for business expansion, or secure a better interest rate.
Navigating the world of commercial mortgages can be complex, but with our expertise and personalized approach, we make the process straightforward and efficient. Our team works closely with you to understand your business goals and financial situation, ensuring we find the best mortgage product that fits your needs. Whether you’re purchasing, developing, or refinancing, our expertise in commercial mortgages ensures you get the support and guidance you need.

Extra Room - A practical and affordable alternative
As property prices continue to skyrocket, finding affordable and practical solutions for our space needs has become more critical than ever. One such innovative solution is renting a storage room from www.extraroom.store. This option not only provides a cost-effective alternative to moving but also brings several additional benefits that make it an attractive choice for many homeowners.
One of the most compelling reasons to consider renting a storage room is the financial savings. Moving to a larger house involves significant costs, including higher mortgage payments, property taxes, and moving expenses. On the other hand, renting a storage unit from ExtraRoom.Store allows you to declutter your home without the financial burden of upgrading to a bigger property. By freeing up a room in your house, you can create additional living space for activities such as a home office, guest room, or playroom for the kids.
Furthermore, many people consider garden sheds as an alternative storage solution. However, sheds come with their own set of drawbacks. They can be damp, which poses a risk to stored items, especially those sensitive to moisture like documents, electronics, and clothing. Additionally, garden sheds take up valuable outdoor space that could otherwise be used for leisure, gardening, or entertaining.
ExtraRoom.Store provides secure, dry, and conveniently located storage options, ensuring your belongings are kept in optimal conditions. The flexibility of rental terms means you can choose the duration that best suits your needs, whether it’s for a short-term project or a long-term storage solution.
In conclusion, www.extraroom.store offers a practical and affordable alternative to the daunting and costly process of moving to a larger home. By renting a storage room, you can maximize the space you already have, protect your belongings, and preserve your outdoor areas, making it a smart choice for those looking to enhance their living space without breaking the bank.

Laser therapy helps bruises after seven months of pain
“The clinic feels like a serious place committed to healing”
Kim Chenoweth, 76 lives in Glastonbury and is a retired psychotherapist and counsellor – a career she took up after teaching art in schools.
“I have had Parkinson’s disease as a general problem for about ten years. But the specific problem I had recently was a bad bruise to my right knee, which was extremely painful. I had an x ray and some physiotherapy sessions - but after seven months I was still suffering severe pain. Frustrating because exercise is valuable with Parkinson’s.
“Then a friend in Glastonbury recommended Matthew Jackson and the therapy I’m having with him has improved things. I still have pain but it is less and has gone from a sharp pain to a dull ache. So far I’ve had four treatments of laser therapy and I will be having two more, so I hope there will be a bigger improvement.
“I am really impressed with the clinic. I like the plants, the setting and the way the rooms are laid out, it feels right and secure - like a serious place committed to healing. Matthew is very sensitive and professional and I would certainly recommend him.”
Matthew says: “Laser machines use powerful light frequency to heal musculoskeletal conditions quickly and gently, with proven impressive results for conditions from painful arthritis, sprains, tendons and muscle tears to bone fractures, infections, fibromyalgia and osteoporosis.
“Kim’s knee was scanned for ten minutes each time with a targeted horizontal beam. I’m looking forward to seeing how her knee improves after the next two laser sessions.”
